20 people I want to invite to a party
I was thinking last night that on the exact day I was born, somewhere a person who was 100 years old died. And on the day they were born, there was another 100 year old person who died on that exact date, and so on.

It is a weird thought to know that only twenty of these people are all it would take to span the timeframe back to the birth of Christ. Twenty.

We like to think of the changes that have occured since then, but put in this perspective, actually it is not possible for very much to have changed, other than technology. Of course technology has shifted some of our focus (e.g., we are not completely preoccuppied with day to day survival), however, I now believe that we would be shocked to find that our struggles are/were very similiar.

I am thinking that a fiction book threading these twenty lives together in a historically accurate format might be interesting to write. If I can't figure out how to get them all at my party I can at least get them together in a party in a book, which actually might be the focal point. A party.

Ideas. Too many ideas.

What a fascinating idea for a book!

To keep it from seeming disjointed, I think it would be a good idea to have some personal item from each character somehow come into the possession of the character that follows.

If Michener wrote it, he'd probably have all the characters a part of the same family line.

Very interesting - I was stargazing last night, and was struck by a similar thought - of people going back centuries all doing exactly the same thing, staring at the heavens, the cosmos or simply the sky, searching for answers amid planets, moons and desolate celestial objects of no name.

I reached for my hipflask before the 'mote in God's eye' feeling became overwhelming, and started tracking communication sattelites - like a good 21st century boy! ;)

I think it would be an interesting idea also. And I like LaHibou's thought. I think about that sometimes. That the light we see from the stars is a couple thousand years old. We are bound to each other, energy is never destroyed.

If Michener wrote it, Manniac....

It would be interesting if they were all doctors or scientists, you can trace how medicine started from magic and how physicians were often also astrologers reading the stars, how because they could read the stars and give the best medical advice, they were in demand by the political power and the envy of others. A nice mix of science dealing with life and death and politics too! And the ritualization of it all, it carries on through the generations even when the original meanings may have been long forgotten. Then maybe you come back full circle, a state of the art biogenetic discovery echoed in some Sumerian cuneiform tablet, or, a la Jurassic Parc, a mummified DNA containing the antidote to Vitriol.

By the way, its been a while since I've been here. Miss you guys!!!! :)
