A Question
Do you think Modern Soldiers know what War is!

ie: I constantly hear about the US soldiers (and others) who complain that they are over staying their amount of time in a battle zone. Take Iraq, some American Soldiers are complaining, they have been there 3 months. 6 months if you include the 3 month desert camp out in Kuwait.

Yet they think its unfair. Their Soldiers it is their job. Go here go there follow orders, do what your told, be a soldier. They seems to think, Most of them, that they are going for a weekend live ammo drill. Ememy will come from the left, wait for them then fire back, when it's over go back to the camp come back tomorrow 0600. Only in real War, there are no breaks in between. No we won it's over, real war has occupation, what did you think when you went over? That everything would be sorted out and you would get home to your pre-arranged hero's welcome.

Hmm...long post then I intended.

Question: Do modern (think American and others) Soldiers know what a Real War is?
yes
no

Re: A Question
3rd option- I'm not a mind reader.

If you're referring to specific statements made by armed service personnel recently, then I'd say I don't know, depending upon the facts of that person's personal situation.

If the only gripe is that they're not "home" then I don't have any sympathy- they signed the application form, they knew (I hope!) what would be involved. If there are other factors (I'm thinking PTSD, other medical problems, lack of resources to operate effectively, or even being sick of being shot at or shelled on a daily basis) then I'd be more sypathetic.

If the armed service personnel aren't equipped to endure long periods of discomfort and uncertain safetey, then I'd suggest the training and approval criteria would need review.

I also appreciate that this is *very* easy for me to say. The soldiers life is not for me, so I didn't sign an application form.

Re: A Question
Yet another pointless topic.

Of course they do. In WW2 we constantly cycled GIs from the front to the rear. You can only keep a man out there for so long.

Re: A Question
Red5 makes another pointless remark.

Soldiers used to go to war for long periods of time.

Now they are pampered little boys with all the comforts of home who as soon as they lose the running water want to go home. Gourmet meals, Satellite Phones, TV, A life that most people in our world would risk everything to enjoy. A little reality come up and the power goes out, hence no more air conditioning, and they can't cope.

Re: A Question
She's lecturing me...sorry, I mean IT is lecturing me...imagine that!

Maybe if you had ever been in the US military, you might actually have a real point of view instead of just repeating the vacuous drizzle of media speculation. In the mean time, you're still a mindless bore.

Re: A Question
I can't join the army down south. I would have to lie if i did, and I don't lie.

(think about that)

Haha I was just thinking what Jade Babe would say to you about this. I just can't repeat it without getting the Caddly one upset.

I'm sorry Red five I just asked a question. I didn't mean to hurt you. :)
