A couple of heroes looking for fun and danger...
((Here's a link to images of the two characters I play - I know I've met several of you as The Witch Engine, and hopefully left a good impression. s92462484.onlinehome.us/S...acters.jpg ))
THE WITCH ENGINE
The Witch Engine was not always known as such, but her true name lies long fogotten, buried under the weight of so many centuries.
Back, in the dawn of mankind's civilization, the Egyptian empire rose from the desert lands to forge a powerful empire under the blazing sun. Artisans, labourers, merchants and more built a legacy in the most inhspitable lands, yet, one particular person's genius stood out above all others.
That man was Abasi-Ra, a minor noble of the Pharaoh's house, and master of clockworks and mechanical theory, as well as a powerful member of the Egyptian occult. Through his theories, he developed 13 automatons, each centuries beyond anything the world had seen, or since seen, powered by the bronze and steel of the land, and given life by the gifts of creatures of supernatural origins - some say they were the very Egyptian gods themselves, others, more sinister alienist powers. Irregardless, these dolls were a success, and nothing in Egypt could defy them...or so Abasi thought.
The temptation to abuse his gifts was too great, and he attempted a coup against the Pharaoh with his mechanized bodyguard. The dark gifts that powered them gave them other abilities as well - the very metal that composed their bodies healed like living flesh, and even took on it's appearance in places, and the vey touch of one of the creatures would drain the life-force from their victim. With them, Abasi seemed unstoppable.
However, it is said that each Pharaoh was equal in power to the gods, and there may be some truth in this. Somehow, the Pharaoh struck down the 13, however the details of this even is one of the few things the Witch Engine will not discuss with others. The result however, remains: Abasi was defeated, and sentenced to the punishment of mummification while still alive. His automatons were entombed with him deep inside the pyramid, unable to escape, and left to be forgotten by time.
Centuries passed, then, millenia. The dolls, one by one, stopped functioning, and all was quiet.
***************
In Germany, a madman was waging a war against the entire planet. His Axis swept across europe, destroying or annexing one location after another. But this was not enough for the man. He craved more than simply this world. Some theorists suggested he showed an interest in the occult, and they would be correct.
Nazi soldiers were sent to every corner of the world, seeking out tales and relics of the bizzare and arcane for their master. Portals, artifacts, incantations, and more. It was at this time, the tale of Abasi, now known to the scholarly world as "Anubis", and the location of his final place of rest became known. A covert mission was ordered to ransack the pyramid, hoping to locate some powerful occult item to aid the war. Instead, they found 13.
The 13 Dolls, once repaired, exceeded all expectations. Like blank slates, they would work unquestioningly, and quickly adapted to life as Nazi superspies and assassins. Lightning quick, seemingly unkillable and never tiring, they were the most powerful and successful agents in the army after only months.
But, the power of the Axis was not to remain forever. The Allies drove the Axis back, and one by one, the army's claimed territories fell. Truth and Justice triumphed again, and the war was brought to a close. But the menace was not completely defeated - and a convoy remained in Paragon City, known now as the 5th column.
Four of the dolls were destroyed in the war, but the status of the other 9 was largely unknown, even to the highest officials in the Column. One in particular, who had been given the codename "Hexe-Maschine", or "Witch Engine", was lost en route to Paragon City, and presumed destroyed as well.
On the coast of Nova Scotia, however, a washed up crate told a different story.
***************
Years passed, and Witch Engine, called simply En by the locals of the sleepy Canadian town, was accepted as one of their own. They had seen unusual things before - another from their very town had gained unusual powers and left years earlier to fight crime in larger climes, and it was the kind of town that held no grudge. Though her training had taught her limited english, she honed her skills with comic books and Canadian television, giving her a slightly unusual accent, and certainly not one expected by one of her origins.
Here, at last, Witch Engine had found peace. Realizing there was more to life than death, she felt it was neccessary to atone for her sins in any way she could. She became a paragon of the village, helping any way she could, and the town repaid her with friendship and kindness. At last, she thought, she had found a true purpose and calling. Until the column arrived.
They had tracked Engine's appearance in the village, and after confirming it, made a strike to reclaim their "property". It's not known exactly how many perished in the hail of fire and guns that day, but even one was too many. They did not find the Engine, but the Engine found them.
Witch Engine trailed the 5th Column to Paragon City, and has vowed to avenge her adopted family. To this end, she hunts the column at every step, as well as any who would harm the innocents. Here, here in Paragon City, is where it must end. Here is where she will meet her destiny.
((Witch Engine is a Magic Scrapper with Dark Melee, Regeneration and Leaping.
Though her past is a little dark, she does tend to keep a pleasant attitude and good demeanor about things - as she feels getting all angsty about the whole situation would be disrespectful of her fallen family. In other words, don't let the background story make you think she's some angst-ridden emo fan hehe ))
THE HUGGERNAUT
Raised by Mother Earth, Embraced by Father Time, and nourished by the sweet sweet food that is life, the Huggernaut descends upon Paragon City like a frothing pink typhoon of justice, dispensing his message - nay, the very meaning of his existance - to all - LOVE AND PEACE!!
Though none seem to know who the Huggernaut is, or where he comes from, all can agree on three simple things - he's BIG, he's PINK, and he REALLY LIKES YOU.
Repeated interviews with the Huggernaut by local Paragon City media teams have failed to shed much light on him as well, generally degenerating into lectures to the youth of Paragon City to eat their vitamins and stay in school, or fascinating philosophical debates on the nature of fine cheeses. One particularly dilligent reporter did manage to confirm at the very least, he's an east coast native, and medical records from the Paragon City General Hospital confirm that he is human - with slight genetic differences, in excellent physical shape, and appears to - though some would disagree - have full mental capacity.
Huggernaut enjoys dispensing his own form of justice across the town, namely using his large stature and "Sceptre of Love" to coerce gangs to take up more passive lifestyles, or "kiss and make up", as well as talking to the locals, and relaxing under a tree with his favourite brand of cigar.
Often talking in third person, many a foe underestimates Huggernaut based on his amusing appearance, simple-minded way of speaking, and blatant disregard for personal safety. In the end however, they've all come around to his way of thinking...or else.
((Huggernaut is a Mutation Tanker with Invulnerability and War Mace, and I'll be taking Flight and Teleportation with him later so he can soar above the battlefield and use Teleport Foe/Ally to play "matchmaker" with people.
He's a decidedly more "lighthearted" character than Witch Engine, and the kind of guy you might have run a children's TV show or get shot out of a cannon. ))
Re: A couple of heroes looking for fun and danger...
I absolutely love the backstory you wrote up for Witch Engine. Well done. Look forward to catching you in the game sometime (see the Roster for my slew of alts), though I'm not an Officer, so I wouldn't be responsible for getting you in.
Re: A couple of heroes looking for fun and danger...
from what I've seen, it looks like Witch Engine is a go for the Project. I am an officer, so if you see Vendetta roaming around, send me a message and I'll invite you.
