A meeting in shade
Damien pushed his body for the most power, twisting his wrist ever so subtly for the extra speed in the blade, his back muscles rippling uder his sweat slickened skin. It would look flawless to the untrained eye, but he had missed his mark by an eighth of an inch.
Sneering at the impailed dummy, Damien pulled his blade out and then faced the dummy, striking out with a simple Arc of the Moon, taking the head off the straw bundle.
"I must get better if I'll ever be worth anything," Damien said, taking a moment to strok his forked beard that had matted to his bare chest. "What Aes Sedai would bond an imperfect swordsman," he muttered to himself, though louder then he thought.
He started to run over his forms again, especially trying to perfect Striking the Spark, his first Advanced form. He was never happy with good, he demanded perfection of himself.
And perfection is what he'd have.

Re: A meeting in shade
Kerin woke up slowly in the predawn hours. The sky was a lightening shade of grey. She rolled over and stood, stretching slowly as she walked over to the window and drawing back the edge of the curtain. She ran her fingers through her hair as she walked away, shaking her head. She hadn't been back to the Tower for very long, since returning after the debacle in Four Kings. She shivered slightly, trying not to imagine the horror the other Aes Sedai had to be undergoing.
What costs were there to serving the Light?
She dressed slowly after washing, choosing a rich emerald green dress with a low-cut back and a fine mesh neck and collar that came up from her V-cut front. The bodice fit snuggly down to her hips, then flared out, hanging in wrinkles around her ankles. Sleeveless as well, it was a good summer dress. Neglecting shoes, and putting her hair up in a simple ponytail, her bangs hanging loose in slight curls around her face and darkly painted eyes, she went outside. She was tired of being inside, tired of being pinned into a building. There was a building pressure in the world, and she was feeling it for sure.
She was walking for a couple of hours around the Yards, this time blissfully ignorant of the startled grunts that trailed her around the Tower. The Guards were not getting any better at ignoring her. She was beautiful, and graceful, and she . . . just didn't understand it. However . . .
She noticed one Warder in training standing slightly apart from the others, working harder than the others, destroying the practice dummy in front of him quite effeciently. A small smile crept across her face. She watched for a moment. crossing her arms beneath her breasts.
When he stepped back for a moment, shaking his head to himself, she seized the moment. "Working hard?" he turned to face her, and she realized that he most likely wouldn't recognize her as full Aes Sedai right away. She was only twenty-two, for starters, and had not nearly begun to adopt the ageless Sedai look. The other fact that she wasn't wearing her ring . . . well. She supposed it wouldn't matter right away. "If you don't mind me asking . . . why are you working so hard?"

Re: A meeting in shade
"The price of perfection good lady," Damien said with a flourishing bow. "And I don't mind you asking. Are there any other questions before I continue? The breather is good for me, especially in such fine company."
Damien had moved closer to her, but not overy close. He didn't want to frighten her, and a man who looked a shade less then crazy tended to do that to ladies. Though there were plenty back in Kandor who enjoyed his company.
He searched her over, but saw no ring. But by the way she carried herself, he would have been suprised if she was a Novice. He decided to play it safe.

Kerin looked up at him. He was a tall, harsh looking man, and the sweat running down his chest would have turned a lot of women in the Tower away. So vain and obsessed with the superficial they had become . . .
She noted the way his eyes ran over her hands, looking for her ring, and smiled slightly, not more than a slight upward curve of the lips. "I suppose fine company is in the eye of the beholder, is it not?" she asked slyly, and walked over to a stump of a tree. "So you strive to be perfect? Do the flaws of the Tower scare you?"

"I suppose that it is miss," he said, moving over to the fence and leaning on it. "And yes, to perfect and master the balde is to perfect and master ones self. And I do not see enough of the Tower to know, though I would suppose you do, Aes Sedai."
He offered her a small bow and a knowing smile. He really could care less if she was the Amrylian seat, Damien, while looking crazy, knew he possesed a rugged look that many women desired. He saw this as a challange, and if nothing else, a chance to practice for the bar maids when he could get out of training.

She looked away for a moment. So he would ruin her fun. She couldn't really play as if she wasn't Aes Sedai now . . . unless she just avoided the accusation entirely. "Everyone knows of the flaws in the Tower I thought," she said softly, still looking away. The simple truth of the matter was that the subject at hand was hard hitting. The flaws in the Tower reflected upon the Sisters in the Tower, and Kerin was among those.
"And while perfecting yourself, do you see yourself serving the Aes Sedai for your lifetime, or the Light? Or will you 'hold to duty' and do as duty dictates?" She rose, taking a single step closer. "Apologies for asking, but you . . . are a curious individual. Your devotion is striking."

"I will do what I must Aes Sedai," he said with as much humbleness as he could muster, which wasn't much. "I intend to do what a warder does. If I am...propositioned, then it would depend on who does the asking," he said with a smile, moving slightly closer to her.
He was quite sure she was nearly eating out of his hand. Perhaps Aes Sedai really were just women too. This one was at least pretty, and she looked young. Still not worth taking chances.

Kerin resisted the urge to take a step back as he came closer, put a bit more manageable distance between them. She needed to find someone in the Grounds that was as devoted to doing what was RIGHT instead of what they were told to as much as she was. No matter the path that it lead. They were walking in such dark times . . . even Alexia, in her infinite wisdom, had fallen in Kerin's eyes. To go to the Black Tower, be subject to their foul trickery . . .
"Just . . . a woman." She said, glancing up at him again. Standing at her sleight height, she was about five or six inches shorter than he, especially barefoot while he had his boots on. She reached out as if to touch his sword, then retracted her fingers. "A curious one." Let him think she was infatuated. Let him think her captured by his . . . charm.

"Interesting," Damien said. "Now, Aes Sedai, if you don't mind, I've more training to do. If I don't stay on top of things, I may find myself much further from perfect then I was before. With your permission.."
He stood up from the fence, nearly rigid, waiting her release. He wanted her to see him practice more. It was needed for the effect.

She smiled. Good. Time for thought. "Of course. If you don't mind, I think I'll stay and watch for a while. I would like to see perfection incarnate." She stepped back to the fence while he moved back to his practive dummy, and nimbly hopped up to take a seat on the fence railing, her feet kicking in the air idly as she leaned back a bit on the palms of her hands.
Her mind was working hard: the man wasn't overly handsome, that was for sure, but he was polite, and seemed to be decent enough. Perhaps not pure, and definitely not the pure gentlemen she had encountered here on the Grounds before. But then, it was refreshing as well--to be treated as a woman, not an Aes Sedai, a porcelain figure to be honored and held upon the highest pedestal.
Perhaps inside . . . we are all . . . flawed.

Re: A meeting in shade
"Watch all you like Aes Sedai," Damien offered with a flourish of his blade, "But I'm quite sure I'm not much to see if you are used to watching the Warders proper."
He dropped into a stance and into the Void, nearly forgetting the lady watching him, though she was still there, a bubble of emotion locked outside of the Void. He had to perfect his swordplay first though. It was why he had come here.
Leopard in the Tree unfolded into Lion on the Hill. He started working his way through forms towards the dummy. He intended to end with Kingfisher takes the Silverback, but he had a few forms to get him there, including the advanced form he was working on.
Arc of the Moon, back to Lion on the Hill. The Falling Leaf used as a defence, moved swiftly into The River Undercuts the Bank. He moved into Striking the Spark, and while it wasn't perfect, it was the best he'd ever done with it. This took his close enough to the dummy for Kingfisher take the Silverback to sink his blade deep into the stomach of his "opponent."
After a moment of letting the blade rest in satisfaction, he Folded the Fan and ended up back in Leopard in the Tree, breathing a little harder then he had been when he started, sweat dripping down his back and sides.

Kerin sat on the fence, feet kicking idly, watching him spin through his fighting, moving gracefully and flawlessly in her eyes. He was lightning-quick, one of the better guards that she had seen in the Grounds. And . . . he wasn't staring at her instead of focusing in on his target, despite what had just occurred. She watched until he slid back into his stance, breathing a bit harder, and clapped her hands in front of her, putting on a bright smile.
"You're much better than some others," she said, in all honesty. "Usually, the others act like little boys." She turned her head, looking away from the Tower, away from the city, out across the river towards the rising sun. A new day rising on Tar Valon. A new day rising within her heart.

Re: A meeting in shade
"Better then some," Damien worked out around another breath, "But not most, and it's still not perfect. So, while I take another little break Aes Sedai, might I ask why you've come down here and singled me out? I have yet to be graced by the presnce of an Aes Sedai for anything more then healing."
Damien took his shirt from it's place on the fence post and wiped off his face, taking care not to mess up his beard. He wasn't overly vain, but he did take special care of his beard. It was a part of his identity.

Kerin shrugged lightly. "I'm not sure yet. You caught my eye working so hard." That was part truth. Not all of it though. The rest would be that she was tired of being here, in the Tower. Tired of being pinned up with the endless debate and speculation, tired of inaction with so much darkness raping the land. There had to be action against it sometime. Even fighting fire with fire would be better than sitting around watching the grasslands burn to nothing. Even if she had to do it alone, she was leaving soon.
"If asked by any Sedai to bond, what would your answer be?" she asked suddenly, still swinging her legs, perched atop the fence's railing. "Forgive me for being . . . forward. I am a very curious person."

"Last I heard," Damien said with a laugh at his coming joke, "curiosity only killed cats. I would do my part to serve the Tower, Aes Sedai, and if one of your numbers saw fit to take me as their warder, then I would accept. I'm not anythign special enough to be picky. Except for maybe a Brown sister, I've heard they are a terrible bore."
He let his smile crack through his beard, and he watched the sun come up. Thankfully Master Richard had slacken up on the chores that Ivron, Tristan, and himself had to do to focus more on their blade work and path training.

"Were you to bond a brown, I believe all you need practice is the art of carrying a book," Kerin said with a laugh. "They are quiet the boring bunch. Them and Greys. Us Blues, we know how to have a bit of fun and keep balance." Her eyes twinkled when she said it. Most Gaidin dreamed of bonding into the Green, Keirn believed. The Greens had the legend for bonding the most, and their nickname went well with people with swords. The Battle Ajah. Pah. All Ajahs could fight when the time came. Kerin had before, and she would again, undoubtedly.
She noted the sun's rising in earnest, and looked back at him with another smile as she hopped off of the fence. "Perhaps I should leave you be now? You probably have much work to do and do not wish to be distracted from it."

"If the Aes Sedai wishes to leave, she is more then welcome to," Damien said with a bow of parting. "It has been my honor to meat you, Aes Sedai."
Damien waited till she started to leave before falling back into his forms practice. He still needed to work on Striking the Spark, and there were countless other forms to practice.
He found his starting spot, slightly worn from use, and started from the beginning again. Leopard in the Tree......
