A query,
LCJ Gladstone,
I felt I should probably consult the Courts on this one, as it's a bit of a sticky issue which the Government could probably use some legal advice on.
If you have read my recent posts in the Dáil, you will have noticed that I have called on Dáil ministers to ratify the Constitution, again. Since we have lost all our legislation, I really feel we need to do more than just dredge up copies from disk caches and/or our memories -- this seems to be the best way (short of using the Citizen's Council, which could well turn into a total fiasco) to give the recovered Acts some sort of legality.
Your opinion would be much appreciated, your honour.
Thank you for your query. The relevant article for ratifying/amending the constitution is Article 14:
Quote:Article Fourteen - Amending the Constitution
1. Constitutional amendments may originate in the Dáil or Citizens' Council.
i. The Dáil must assent to all amendments by majority of those voting, rounded up to the nearest whole citizen.
ii. The Citizens' Council must assent to all amendments by two-thirds supermajority of those voting, rounded up to the nearest whole citizen.
In view of the technical problems we have experienced recently and the fact that there were several versions of the constitution in circulation before the crash, I think it wise to have the Dail ratify one of the versions so that we have an authentic constitution to rely upon.

Re: A query,
Your Honour,
The vote in the Dail Tomann closes at 0800 BST Monday, and looks to be unanimous in favour of the current version, which I will circulate to replace the various existing copies asap.
In light of the fact that this is technically not an ammendment, do you believe it necessary to endure yet another period of absenteeism-wracked voting in the Citizen's Council, or can we consider the matter settled at 0800?
