ACK! My board went back to 2003???
Hi, all

My board 'Went Retro'!!! Some forums show the newest posts are from 2003, and other forums do not show any posts at all.

The Mods and Admins have also been rolled back to long ago. People i haven't seen in years are now admins, and my current Crew members do not have control.

I tried to move a thread to a different forum recently and the thread disappeared and was never seen again. We're afraid to touch the controls. Then this happened and I am at the end of my rope...

what's happening to our boards?

...and while I'm here, could SOMEone please explain to me why, after my board received a notice from ezYuku IN DECEMBER that it was going to be migrated to Yuku, the changeover has never occurred? I was told in December, January and February that it would happen 'shortly', but we feel we have been abandoned after all this time.

Could you PLEASE get us moved into the Yuku system? (AFTER you restore our 8-year-old-board, of course!) Pretty please?

Re: ACK! My board went back to 2003???
We have a couple of other similar reports of lost posts and members from other p066 boards, so there seems to be a problem on that server. Your board will need to be restored by a technician.

ezboard migrations were halted a couple of times since the first of the year, but thousands of boards have been migrated. Only the Yuku team could tell you for sure why yours isn't one of them. The most likely reason is that they did try to migrate it, perhaps more than once, but it didn't migrate correctly and has been put on the list of boards that need special attention.

The first step, as you said, is to get your ezboard restored. Then we can try to find out about migrating it to Yuku.

I'll leave a note for a technician regarding the restoral.

HI, ezDollar, and thank you for any help you can offer.

Why in the world were we moved to a different server?

Why didn't we receive the courtesy of a simple notification first? Now i know why i lost a thread i tried to move.

How long ago was my board last backed up, so i can get an idea of how many days of posting will be lost (if the board actually CAN be restored)?

It occurs to me that, since i have one of the oldest active boards on the system, it's not going to be movable. ezboard has had to patch the old boards together many times over the years -- we've been through many snafus yet we still stuck with ezboard. Now it seems this loyalty will work against us, as your programming people have to translate all this old mottled, makeshift ezboard coding into whatever system Yuku uses.

What are our chances of ever being moved to Yuku?

I believe they consolidated most of the remaining boards in the ezboard system on a very few servers, several weeks ago. p066 has turned out to be problematic.

If you have been with ezboard a long time, your board has probably been moved several times. (Mine was moved at least 4 times over about a 3-year period.) The sever you started out on doesn't even exist anymore, since they were all replaced in 2004, so you were certainly moved then. The technicians have always moved boards around as needed to balance the load, or perform maintenance, on a server. They never give advance notice. It's usually seamless, with a redirect put in place to take people to your board's new address from its old address.

Extremely good.

Re: ACK! My board went back to 2003???
Yes, I have been with ezBoard for a very long time; since 1999, with a board I ran prior to this one (on pub3) and then my current one (which started on pub5 in early 2000).

Not only have we been notified when we were moving to different servers but we were sometimes ASKED if we wanted to move. If they didn't give notice, threads could be lost, indeed, forums could be lost (actually, some were lost anyway over the years when something went wrong at ezboard, and were never recovered, but I stuck with ezboard anyway), and all the links we put in our advertising would be outdated until we noticed. At least when we were notified we would stop posting and save anything recent we felt was important, just in case.

I suppose that's what happened to the thread I tried to move; it disappeared into the Twilight Zone because no one told us they were moving the board.

So... how long does it take to get around to us on a Restoral request, and how long ago was my board last backed up? I'm wondering how much will be lost if the last Backup was not performed recently. Can you tell me that much, please?

I'm sorry, I had never known them to give advance warning when moving boards, but they may have done so for very large and busy communities where they realized many people could be posting when the move occurred.

The missing topic may be due more to the problems of lost posts and members on p066 than to the move itself.

I'm sorry, I haven't received any information on this from the technician. I see that he has restored a couple of p066 boards that reported problems before you did, so I can only assume he is working his way through his To-Do list. I hope it will be very soon.

You're welcome. :D

I can add you board to the Yuku import queue if you like. Please let me know if you want me to do this and I will start this process.

Looking at my board, there are a few things I need to ask about...

1) I see we have lost over a month of posting for the entire board. The p068.ezboard.com/fbluesclubfrm131 (Dreamstorm) forum was especially important, we had some great RPGs going on, and entire pages of posting are now lost; is there any way you could find that missing month, in a more recent Backup than June 12?

2) You have given me five forums that I deleted years ago. That's not particularly a problem and it's kinda fun to see them again, but how in the world did these forums show up in a Backup from June of 2008?

3) Does this mean you have ancient backups somewhere? If there's any way you can find the earliest pages of p068.ezboard.com/fbluesclubthejukebox (from 2000 and 2001) and put them back on the board somewhere WITHOUT disturbing the way this forum stands now (put the old threads in a new forum, maybe?) you would have my undying gratitude... the earliest posts of the board were in that forum, and i'd love to have them again.

Re: Importing to Yuku

Of course we want to be on the import list.

We've been OFF the list for all these months????? We've been in suspense all this time for nothing????
No one thought to tell us what the holdup was???

...That's just not right...

So, how long is it REALLY going to take for Yuku to get around to us? Are we going to be back at the end of the line, when we've been waiting since December?

Is there ANYthing you can do?

I've asked at Yuku about why your board wasn't migrated earlier. If I can get anything more specific than what I already speculated on in my post above, I'll let you know.

James will need to check on your restoral situation. I've sent him a note to check this topic.

Re: ACK! My board went back to 2003???
On the Yuku side, they have tried to migrate your board several times. Each time, the migration has failed. The board is in the migration queue now, but it won't be approved for another attempt at migration until they find out what, if anything, can be restored on the ezboard side. After that, because it's a "problem board", how long the migration takes will depend on when a developer has a chance to deal with whatever is keeping the board from migrating correctly. That may seem vague, but that's all we can tell you at this time.

Well, i thank you for responding to me. It's nice to know someone checked on what's going on. :)

If James could find the beginnings of my forum, it would be fantastic. Let's hope he can poke around and tell me something wonderful!

another question for you...

Whenever someone starts a new thread, it automatically has something like 30 Views attached to it. Is this indicative of a serious problem, or just a harmless quirk?

I've never seen topic views go up dramatically except where someone was deliberately clicking on the topic to edit it over and over, or to give it a lot of views and make it look "important".

It is possible that what you described is related to this old bug:

Topic views can be inaccurate

If someone is doing it deliberately, the best solution is to just turn off Views, at least for a while, until they get over themselves. ;) Most users don't miss Views.

If it's the bug, it can't be fixed.

my crew doesn't do things like that.

another ezboard bug. and unfixable. another clue that my board will not be migrated?

No. Your board's migration is just a matter of time.

Re: nope
i just started a new topic, and it had 44 Views the moment it had been created. No one on my board is playing games; ezboard is failing.

For years I have been paying a fee to ezboard for services for my board, yet it's breaking down, not searchable anymore, and the 'frequent backups' that was promised in ezboard's advertising consists of a loss of a month's worth of RPG posting and six 2004 forums reappearing the one time we need to call in on that promise. That's hard to take and a blow to the posters who have contributed their hard work and creativity to the board. Now that I NEED ezboard's promised services, where are they?

Pardon my bluntness, but you have to understand something...

We have been waiting over 7 months. With a half-broken board, no new members for the last year since we can't be found on ezboard searches and we're not being included in the Yuku searches; ignored all these months while we were waiting in vane to be moved; and now a month's worth of RPG posting missing... we're dying. The board is dying.

We're down to a very few hardy souls and on the brink of extinction. No... on the edge of being murdered. ezboard, here's your chance, right here and now; all I'm asking is you give us the service we deserve and pay for. We've been loyal, paying customers for years and now we need help.

After eight years of work and fun (and money paid to ezboard), there is hardly anyone left. MY BOARD IS DYING.

No one with first-hand knowledge of our situation or the AUTHORITY TO ACT has spoken with me, and I NEED HELP.

Board migration is 'just a matter of time'? HOW MUCH MORE TIME DO YOU NEED???

Regarding the views on your new topic, the only thing I can suggest is that you turn Topic Views off. That bug is one of many such unfixable bugs that led to the development of Yuku rather than a new version of ezboard. When it comes to these unfixable bugs, we are, and have been, all in the same boat.

Please don't think I'm being snide, here, because I honestly don't mean it in that way, but ezOps were urged to migrate to Yuku voluntarily for about a year before automatic migrations began. By waiting until you had no choice to migrate, you've wound up among a handful of remaining boards that have migration problems of some sort. It will take the Yuku developers some time to figure out a way of migrating the problem boards as completely as is possible. It's simply not possible to say how long it will take for them to 1) get to get to your board on their "to do list" or 2) find a solution after they do get to it.

I realize that this is particularly rough for you. As an RPG board, losing a month's content must be a continuity nightmare. As much as I would like to give you a specific ETA, this is one of those things that will just happen when it happens.

One thing we do know is, they can't do anything about migrating your board until it has been restored as fully as possible. That is the next step. Once that has been done, the migration team will be able to take your board off of the "waiting" list.

Please understand that i, also, am not being snide here.

ezboard/yuku, with close to two year's of practice in migrating boards, is having too much trouble NOW trying to migrate my board (at least, when you WERE trying)... it wouldn't have helped one bit to be one of the early 'testers' only to find you weren't capable anyway. And still aren't.

I have been with ezboard quite enough years to know that, although i supported and defended ezboard to my posters, and i stayed a loyal and paying customer, you do NOT want to volunteer to be first in line for a new procedure. Our present problems tend to support that premise; now, on top of being un-migratable, we have lost a month of posting and have an added bug.

Quote:

Your advertising promised that boards that did NOT want to be migrated would not be forced to, but had the right to continue their ezboards unmolested. At what point were the boards told they had no choice but to migrate????

Quote:

Are you implying that someone is looking into finding that missing month of posting? That would be wonderful. Please confirm.

What is the timeline for finding a more recent update to my board? Does this normally take an hour of search time, five hours, five days...? How often does ezboard perform backups for paying, i.e. 'Gold', boards these days? Yes, I would like the missing month to be found, but not at the expense of another open-ended period of time during which we are ignored. Seven months of being ignored was quite long enough.

Quote:

Thank you for that acknowledgment. I truly appreciate it.

Quote:

...because no one in authority can tell your programmers to focus their attention on a particular board? Who signs the paychecks??? Where can I talk with him?

Does ANYone with the authority to act have knowledge of this thread?

Quote:
you've wound up among a handful of remaining boards that have migration problems of some sort.

...and explain to me where we would have wound up if we had tried to migrate even earlier than seven months ago???? You can't even take care of us NOW, with all the experience your techies have already had with difficult boards; telling me it's my own fault for not jumping on the bandwagon a year earlier makes no sense.

WHY is my board a difficult one? Has anyone discovered what's different about the remaining boards? Perhaps BECAUSE we went through all the years of difficulties, scrambled threads, lost forums, changes, updates, tampering, patches and changes ezboard unveiled?

...and since you've brought it up, just how many boards constitutes "a handful of remaining boards"?

I would very much like to visit the other remaining un-migratable ezboards and look for similarities among our boards. How do I find them?

As we both said in the beginning of our posts, this is not meant to be snide. You have been responsive by continuing this dialogue, and I thank you for that. But I need knowledge of what is actually being done. I have been patient for over seven months. I need action. At this point, I am a business woman talking to the business who provides a valuable service to me, and I am trying to save our account.

Who can help?
