An ancient look at Matings pairings and society
You know, This peice has been on my heart to write since just before the gay marriage issue cropped up in the united states. I have thought on it, and the more time goes on the more I felt compelled to write it. I hope those on the board whose sexualities reflect in this peice will forgive my impertance and understand had I not felt compelled, I never would have wrote it.
Define Marriage? Relationship? Family? if your like so many growing up in post christian societies, it is 1 man, 1 woman and a shit load of children, right? Ok, now let us look at cultures where christianity or monotheisim in general has not touched, amazonian cultures, south african tribes ect. Even ancient native american and celtic cultures. In these cultures, nothing amongst the consenting parties were taboo save abuse. Polarity.
Now, Lets take a closer look at polarity, starting with Homosexuals and their places among the ancients. Would it suprise some of you to know that homosexuals at one time, long long ago, were reverred? they were a mere step down from acheiving total spiritual polarity of the yin and yang energies. There was no taboo, these were not perverts, these were beings of enlightenment who had, learning respect and love for the opposite sex, sent back to learn it for their own. to acheive the ever elusive polarity which is every beings right.
And gender Nuetrals? Where did bisexuals play into all of this? In societies where the tribe or clan must prevail, Holy men and women who were able to address any and all needs of the communities played a vital roll in survival. to do this, sometimes in times of grief or other healing, sex was a very valuable tool. Sex, in and of itself is a celebration of life. If a healer were to help one who was grieving, taking him or her into his or her bed was not unheard of or, actually thought of at all. it was simply what healers did! Gender neutrals were considered one of the most reverred of people because they were veiwed in many societies as having acheived pure polarity. they did not need to search out the part of their spirit that had broken of in reincarnation, because that part of themselve was already there! These people were, in some cultures, considered divinely touched for they had acheived a level of awareness beyond the average being! Those who were revered more were those who needed noone at ALL to feel complete. Remeber, sexual polarity has FOREVER been among our animal kindred....what knowledge do they possess that we have allowed to be stolen from us?
And couplings? where did THeSES play into the cultural whole?? It was not unusal (Though far from being the norm) for 3, 4 or even 5 parties to feel as if life could not be complete withpout eachother. Ancient Marriage pictographs on cave walls and such has depicted as many as 5 adults entering into matrimony together!!!! Why were these pairings reverred?? Scolars beleive for 2 reasons.
A) Looking into the religious mindset at the time, your mate was the other half of yourself. you could never feel truly complete without that part of youyrself housed in a seperate body. And when 3 or more bodies were required to house that so important part of SELF, the spirit was considered monumental. So large, more then 2 were required! What an honor it must have been to possess such a spirit!!! But dangerous as well. think on this, you have the "one for one" christo-judeo mindset...what if you had FOUND your life mate to be forever denied them for a silly insignicant reason??
and now the second more mundane reason :
B) In a society where life literally depends on the coeshion of community, times when one sex was predominant over the other in numbers could prove deadly to a tribe or clan. Jealous vying for the affections of the less numerable sex can bring about strife and fueding which would devestate a community. If there were TWO men a woman felt pleasinglly towards...well why not?? Noone was hurt, everyone benefitted so why not just accept it?? If one of the men were doomed to life alone and would thus become a worry to the tribal elders, why should such a pairing not be allowed?? these pairings ALSO had the extra Benefit of a constatnt baby sitter among the family. No hunter or gatherer would have to stay behind, because there was always one person designated child tender so the Mutli poairings children were never at issue and better off in alot of ways then simple 2 parent children. The elders beleived what one parent lacked the other could teach and these children were taught by THREE OR MORE adults they felt connected to! They did not suckle souly at the breast of the woman who birthed them, they had more then one mom or more then one dad....and were nurtured accordingly!
The ancient mindset seemed to have been, If you were happy, your mate(s) were happy, or you were happy WITHOUT a mate...then it only benefitted society! For EVERYONE was content and noone felt inferior! There are times when I dearly wish we could erase all Monotheistic taint from our memories....for so much beauty has been perverted in the name of false "Truths".
NOW, again, think on this. Early christianity considered it a great coup for a man to be able to afford to keep more then one wife... ok so women who had more then one man were whores but thats ok.... we accepted long ago a woman more then a puppy was a whore in ancient biblical times. But, 3 somes and 4 somes even 20 somes were looked upon with great favor for it bespoke a mans wealth!
It was with the loss of polarity that the more militant societies began to drift over their own borders in conquest. With loss of polarity came loss of so much else....natural reverance....human acceptance. And so much more.
I read ALOT, and as this keeps coming up for me in both life and books, I hope you understand why it was written.
Love to all.

I knew of some of this; but , now I have much more to think on myself. especially with some new turns I've experienced.
might come in handy to have more knowlege of something I know little of.
