Another question...
Hi, everyone. I've been lurking like crazy, but this is my first post, so forgive me if it's been covered and I missed it.
I've been re-reading. (When I read a book in just a few hours, well, sometimes I miss some things.) I just finished re-reading OOP and am now on HBP again. This question only occurred to me at the beginning, when DD and Harry are figuring out what to do with Kreacher.
If DD is the secret-keeper for the order and, well, he dies, what happens? Is there a second? Is it no longer a secret to be kept? Who appointed the secret keeper in the first place? (You do have to be named, right? Like Sirius and Pettigrew for the Potters? They had to name and change the secret-keeper.) Who appoints a new one? What's the status of the secret until then? Sigh.
Ok, so now you see how I can obsess over nonsense. But, if anyone can calm my brain, I'd appreciate it.

Good question! I don't have anything close to an answer, but it is something to think about! (I forgot all about DD being the secret-keeper...)

interesting! I hadn't thought of that. Welll, as far as how one gets to be a secret keeper, I would guess that whoever actually does the casting somehow "appoints" the keeper as part of the spell. Or maybe the caster is the keeper?
If Dumbledore had a hunch he might die, I'd bet he arranged for a new secret keeper. If not, then I guess they're temporary uncovered until the spell is cast again. I bet that's something that will be mentioned in the last book.

That is a good theory. If DD new that he wouldn't be around for much longer I bet he would have cast a new secret keeper. My guess is that it would be Harry since he owns the house now, but then again if Harry needs a place to hide it's possible of someone else being secret keeper. Possibly someone DD would think LV wouldn't expect to be it.
