Origin: Born and raised in Paragon, Michael Logan had a fairly normal middle-class upbringing. A sixth generation police officer, he graduated at the top of his class at the academy. However, he harbored a secret that set him apart from his fellow officers. He was a mutant, possessing powers that were more than human. Gifted with great strength and resistance to injury, he seemed a natural to join Paragon's fraternity of costumed vigilantes.
Unlike most people under such circumstances, Michael initially chose to not go down that route. While he held men like the Statesman in high regard, he felt that he'd be of better service wearing a badge and walking the beat. That would change however with the onset of the Rikti Invasion.
Like the rest of the city, Michael's neighborhood was hit hard by the invading forces. For the first time in his life, he found himself using his powers openly, saving his fellow officers when their precinct was destroyed. Outed as a mutant, Michael chose to take a more active role in the defense of the city. He took part in several minor skirmishes, helping to hold the line against the invaders.
Following the end of the war, Michael reached a turning point in his life. Using his powers in the defense of others had awoken something within him that he had long denied. He realized that he could do so much more for the city and it's people. Coming to an important decision, Michael turned in his badge. His days as a cop were over. Instead, he would uphold the law in a different uniform. One representative of who he was. He was now the Cobalt Sentinel.
