Hi I'm new to this board...
anyway, artist's that have moved /inspired me I'd have to say:
Basquiat (as well) I think his work shows lots of emotion in his lines and brushstrokes.
Raushenberg, Picasso, (I am a collage/assemblage artist, I find their works and techniques inspiring)
A Canadian artist that has moved me (the most) is a collage artist by the name of Jane Ash Poitras. I went to an exhibit of hers a couple of years ago, and it was hard to leave the exhibit I liked it so much.

I use just about everything and anything to make my collages/assemblages.
The supports that I use are: canvas, Altoid tins, paper (watercolor and handmade). I then use a lot of found objects, and images (magazines, books, and personal photos), handmade paper, with acrylic paint and mediums. I'm just beginning to experiment with wax in my collages as well.
I find it is a lot of fun.

Re: Artists who's works move you
The list is long:
2-d, contemporary:
Gerhardt Richter (see "What the heck is it? thread for link)
Robert Irwin(Note: I have seen this piece in person. It is a large disk mounted 1.5 feet off the wall. The shadow you see in the picture is actually painted on the museum wall...but you have to place your hand between the disk and the wall to confirm that...without that test, you can't tell if the shadow is natural or not.) Wes Mills Ed Rusha
Linda Burnham Casey Cook
2-d, old farts (mostly old dead white guys):
Mark Rothko (see "What the heck is it?" thread for pic)
JW Turner
Joshua Reynolds
Pre-Rafaelites
Andre Derrain
American regionalists: notably, the very odd Charles Burchfield, Demuth, Sheeler, O'Keefe.
German Expressionists: Nolde, Marc, Grosz
Uhm, bekgirl and GailtheLizardQueen No one can see the photo links under your usernames. They're both linked from yahoo.
If I copy the address from the "properties" of one of your pics, I can trace it back to it's source, view it, yahoo sticks a cookie on my machine and then when I come back here, I see your photos because I have the cookie...but as soon as I turn the machine back on and log in again, the cookie is gone and so are your photos. If you need a place to store them, let me know. You both probably have more permanent cookies stored from yahoo (since you have the account there) and thus can see your own...and each other's pic. Everybody else gets the dreaded grey square.

OT-avatar test (NousPoetikos)
I think I fixed the problem, let me know if you can see it now.
I enjoy the German Expressionist movement as well. Some of the artist that you listed are unfamiliar to me, I'll have to look them up. Do you have a link to your webpage, I couldn't find one, I'd like to see some of your artwork as well.
Thanks,

Re: OT-avatar test (NousPoetikos)
Yup, I can see it now. Thanks!
I added links for most of the contemporary work so you don't have to fish around the web.
Ah, and I was able to partially access your site. The javascript errors locked up Netscape. IE just gives me warning messages but it will browse. I like your assemblage pieces. Feel free to open a thread if you want to talk about your work.
My own work is unfortunately being held captive at the digital imaging center. I should have the scans in my sweaty little palm sometime this coming week. The site is otherwise all there but there's no point in directing you to the link without the images. I'll post a thread when they're up.
bekgirl
I should add that in your case, it is the "boob" image I can't see...the pic of you sideways shows up fine.

I agree with the earlier poster that James Turrell is someone who inspires me, very simple but his work has a real power. He is working on a major artwork that will be made from a volcano, I think that kind of thing transcends art. That power to transcend art is also present in Bill Viola, especially the Nantes Triptych, which gets to the core of human experience. There is also the work of British artist Graham Nicholls who gets to the core of human experience by examining the unconscious through psychology and sensory deprivation as well as drawing from his own intimate beliefs and experiences.

Hi Mask and Welcome! We may be a little quiet but we're out here....and eventually we'll notice the new post.
You talk of your work...do you have links?
