BT and SKY access onboard Can anyone advise if there are any marinas or resident moorings which offer a facility to hook up a BT land line? (Is this a normal facility offered by the above) I am thinking of buying a houseboat and would ideally like to run my internet based business from it. Same question with SKY satellite services. If my boat is stationary 90% of the year is this a feesable service to fit to a houseboat? Also can anybody give me ball-park costs of insuring houseboats and also mooring costs? I hope somebody out there can answer my questions. weejee3

hello,
with regard to bt line`s, i have seen at least two companys that have got or are planning to install broadband. To use it you must purchase a wireless ship to shore "card" that transmitts the data on to the landline. its not cheep(between £150 to £250) but the monthly cost`s are as good as land line. As for sky, when i finally take the plunge, i recon it will be better to get the free digital receiver (£99) and use a normal areal. hope this helps....s hepple |

Bt Sky Access on Board Hello Weejee3, I have travelled the East and South coasts over the past five years and have only come across one Marina that troubles to drag a Telephone Line out to you and your Boat. Cuxton Marina although half Mud Berthing does this. It is situated right up the Medway after the Thames Estuary and before the Medway becomes the River heading for Maidenhead. There are alternatives if you want a Web Site. Mine is all done from my Boat and then uploaded through a local Cafe. www.ableday.co.uk. Anyway all the best, I hope you find what you are looking for.
