.:~Chapter 1: Curiousity Kills the Cat~:.

Days were rough for Brian. In 8th grade, he was in eccelerated classes and the pressure of the school system had begun to take its tole on the 13-year-old. He sat on the school bus that led to his home, jerking in the orange vehicle at any slight bump in the road. He stared out the window at the passing woods, trying to get his mind off of school and his life at home.

The bus was starting down the hill that led to his driveway and he slipped his backpack on, the weight reminding him of his schoolwork. He frowned as the bus screeched to a halt and the door opened, depositing him on his driveway.

Brian walked for a solid 10 minutes to get to his home, sneezing occationally due to the loose dust on the unpaved driveway. He wondered why his home was so far away from the road. When he finally arrived at his home, his slim shoulders ached with the strain of carrying the backpack. He walked to the porch, and dropped the backpack just inside the house. He didn't feel like talking to anyone right now...

Brian dashed into the thick woods surrounding his house, completely unaware of the nicks and cuts on his arms and legs from the unruly branches. For that time that he could get away from, he wanted to be away from life, away from stress and other people. The forest was similar to him. His favorite hobby was to explore the acres of woodland around his home, and he always seemed to find his way home, no matter how lost he seemed.

The boy fled down a small rugged path narrowly cut into the forest, slowing to a walk progressingly. He planned to go beyond where he had journeyed today. He had gotten home early, so it wouldn't be hard. Hours of walking passed, and the sun began to sink giving the forest a tinge of darkness. Brian soon passed where he had journeyed the farthest, and walked past the border. After a few more minutes of walking, he encountered an odd structure. A tunnel, something very odd to be found deep within the woods.

He got closer to the tunnel. He found that it was easily identified as man-made, but there were strange gouges in the side, something as if made by a claw. He didn't know any tools that made scrapes like that. He scanned the ground, his sharp eyes finding something different amoung the foilege. He picked it up, finding it was a chip from a stone digging tool. It was the point, dull with use. What did this mean? Did the diggers not have modern tools to dig this tunnel?

Brian stepped inside the tunnel, immediatly wishing he had brought at least a flashlight. He almost had to crouch, the tunnel becoming narrower as he journeyed into it. He ran his hand along the wall, keeping himself straight. The tunnel became slightly wider and taller as it came to a complete stop. Brian was puzzled. What use would this tunnel serve?

A small glimmer illuminated the gloom as Brian had started to turn around. The light caught his eye, and just as he was turning back around, a blinding flash sent him spiraling into a completely differernt world...
