Blast Corps Has anyone played Blast Corps for N64? I've been wanting this game for awhile, and I just managed to find a complete copy. I've heard it's pretty challenging, and requires good skills. The concept also looks pretty interesting (destroying buildings to clear a path for a truck carring nuclear missiles). I've been pretty lazy about gaming recently, so I don't know how long it will be before I hook up my N64. |

I LOVE FO!
All I've heard is that some people sort of liked it at first, until the game gave you vehicals that were incredibly unintuitive to control, and you had to go back to stages you already beat and just beat them faster.

Blast Corpse I played some of this. I'm ambivalent about it. On the whole it's fun, but there are some things lacking. Yes, the control is unintuitive for some vehicles. The motorcycle is the worst. Talk about a mess. It's impossible to controll with any accuracy moving at full speed. The dumptruck is tough to get used to also. It requires you to powerslide into things, which requires is tricky. Overall, the control feels floaty for most vehicles. The main stages are fun, but there're also training and bonus levels. Half of the bonus levels are racing laps, which gets boring. Anyway, once you clear a path for the carrier in the main stages, you have to "complete" the stage, which is essentially destroying all the remaning buildings and going on a bunch of fetch-quest type things. I'm into it and all, but I'm a tad disappointed. I had higher hopes. As for the overall feel of the game, it just screams "I'm an N64 game!" if that makes sense. |

Blast Corps OK, I've "finished" this game. What I mean by finished is gotten the credts to roll. There are several aspects to the game. One, of course, is to clear a path for a nuke carrier. Those are the main stages. When you clear a path, you get a gold medal. Then you have to get a second gold medal by "clearing" the stage (as I mentioned above). Next are the bonus/training stages. These consist of wrecking a certain amount of buildings under a time limit, or racing laps. You can get gold medals by beating a certain time in each stage. You also have to find 6 scientists in certain carrier stages. Once you find the scientists, you can "end" the game (even before you get golds in the mini stages). When you find the scientists, the carrier blows up safely, and the credits roll. Then you get a stage where you have to clear a path for a shuttle. If you do that, you go to the moon stage. (Whee!) After this point, you can only progress by getting every gold medal possible. After you get all the golds, you can go to other planets, where you get to play stages under extremely screwed up gravity (i.e., the vehicles become even harder to control). If you get golds in all THOSE as well, you can go for platinum medals in all the other stages. Well, I've finished all the planets, but I have yet to get golds in all of them. I guess this game reminds me of Goldeneye, in that after you beat the game, you can replay the levels for speed. I've been playing a lot of this game lately. It's pretty good, but it could have been better by having more "real" stages instead of all those racing levels. As for the difficulty, it's pretty easy to beat the basic time in most levels. Only two carrier stages are really hard. They're like big puzzles. The learning curve was pretty good. I'll probably try to at least get every gold possible, and some platinums. However, I'm got sure I like the game enough to be crazy and get ALL platinums, like I got all the cheats in GOldeneye. |

Re: Blast Corps I think the farthest I got in Blast Corps was the Moon area. It got to the point where it was too frustrating to progress. I might have pressed on if I really enjoyed the game to begin with, but I was only playing it as a time passer since there was nothing else to do at the time. I don't remember the game in general very much, except that there were certain vehicles I hated using. |

I LOVE FO! Sounds interesting. Normally, I'm not interested in stuff like going through stages really quickly (I like to take my time) - in fact, usually I think most of the challenge of a game should simply involve beating it. But some games can make me change my mind about things like that, and get me into things like scores or time trials. I think if I'd ever borrow FO's N64 again, I might want to get back into GE007 again. Probably before Blast Corps, anyways ;) Actually, I got a long ways into Donkey Kong 64 and just sort of lost interest. It didn't really seem like I was playing it; it was more like I was just putting my time into it, and as a result was just getting more and more stuff, if you know what I mean. Crawl and 1000 |

Blast Core OK, so I got all golds on the planets, but apparently before I can go for platinums, I need to beat the carrier stages AGAIN, but this time faster. Once I get all golds (I have two more to go), then I should be able to go for platinums. |
