Creating outdoor sacred space
Many of us have large yards/ farms. You dont need to be of a pagen path to require a place to commune with the divine. Look at it like this, if sharing coffee at the kitchen table connected you to you father, why is it so hard to beleive that haveing a place for you and the divine to enjoy one another is just as important?
First things first. Find an area (preferably on your own property or one you have permission to dig in). Spiritualy "feel" the land. Are you welcome here? Are you shaded? comfortable? Does the land just feel right? Congratulations! You Have yor spot!!
Now comes cleaning. *ugh* i know, but when your doing it youll find it really is no chore. You are essentially creating your own heaven. Why let cleaning iritate you when you will be getting so much??? Remove branches rocks twigs garbage thistle etc. Leave flowers weeds, grass ect. ( checking for anthills before settling in is always a good idea! If they move in, consider moving out!)
area clean? good! As for size, it can be as small or big as you need. Mine is a 9 foot circle surrounded by rocks. Suprisingly, not even my newest dog interrupts it, and only enters when i do. I plan to add a waterfall to replace the one i lost last year to represent water, a small (well not so small now) evergreen grows where I honor earth. I keep incense and a small fire pit to honor their respective elements. Another plan i have is to erect a windchime, but as i dont care for metal in my circle, finding a good sturdy staff to hold it has proven difficult. But once your circle is defined comes storage.
Nifty lil trick i learned online. Dig a rather deep hole. Deep so it stays cool and candles do not melt. However, te container you use should be water tight. All your ritual/ spiritual supplies can be kept with in so your not carrying an arsenol to and from your circle/ space. you can also tuck in a blanket or carry a large pillow back and forth. (dollar store sells large tubs with air tight lids for 5 bucks....these work rather well, particularly the ones with the little slide locks on either side of the lid making access easy.) To protect your things, you can place a large but movable rock on top your hole to hide where you have dug your hole.
Cast your protctions/ circle and do anything you would normally do to spiritually cleanse and area. your one your way!!
Take pictures every season of your space and keep a spiritual growth journal. As you change and grow, your circle will take on the tones of your particular place on your path.. Its a good way to see how far you have come from year to year!!!

Re: Creating outdoor sacred space
Thank you for this Gaia. We are lucky enough to have a large garden, with a closed off area at the end - and it will all be completely private soon when we have the whole thing fenced in with 6ft high timber fencing. We've waited about 5 years to be able to afford it! The area at the end tho needs LOTS of work, as its more or less overgrown with weeds, rubbish etc - but my daughter and i are up to the challenge, and have big plans for turning it into our own sacred space, with hopefully a memorial corner for those we have loved and lost. I love your ideas, and a waterfall and chimes etc sound cool - might just copy that! Any ideas for what plants, flowers, shrubs etc would add to a peaceful atmosphere, as we have nothing there at all - and apart from definately wanting lavender bushes, i have no idea what else to plant!

Rosemary at the entrance for protection definately. Calendula (if im not mistaken) to keep bees at bay in that area is also a good idea. Marigolds also keep buggage to a minimum. Hyacinths, butterfly bushes... peonies... hmmmmm its pretty much deendant on your allergies, likes/dislikes of smells and looks (i happen to think tiger lilies are beautifull while my daughter chrissy says they look like the sun threw up! ) and what will grow in ur part of the world ( i adore jasmine but it does not do well here.) ill think about it and get back to you. and feel free to take what parts of the post you can use! Im glad it ws helpfull

We also have a large area outside, we have a fire pit as well, alot of times I do not actually cast a circle but create the sacred nemeton which stretches far. I also do a ritual of sorts when my garden is planted I walk around it three times barefoot sprinkling an herb or carrying a smudge stick. focusing intently on how I want my garden to grow and how thankful I am to have it.
