The pale woman nodded and took a deep breath. With her hands folding in her lap and her eyes closed she started to tell her story...very briefly.

"Well...You remember when Shedo called, and I left to return home, right? Well, when I got there, Lantri was there alright. But something was wrong. 'Shane told me that he didn't think that was really my brother. I didn't know what he was talking about, but there was something different about 'Tri. I didn't think too much about it because he'd been gone for so long, who knew what had happened in that time?

"Anyway, Shedo wasn't doing well, he was sick and no one knew why. He passed on a month after my arrival. And that's when things started to make sense.

"Lantri wasn't Lantri. At least, not the Lantri that we had all known. Whatever had happened to him had changed him entirely." Her voice wavered slightly and she took a few more deep breaths to calm herself and focus her thoughts again.

"After Shedo's death 'Shane and I were supposed to take over, because 'Tri would take over the Telgar lands when Lord Telgar passed on. Lantri didn't want to wait for that. He wanted more. He wanted Shedo's lands too. He killed Shedo. Slowly, with poisons... I'm not sure how... we never figured it out." Tears formed in her eyes as she stared at her hands, clenched, white-knuckled in her lap.

"'Shane and I confronted Lantri about it and he laughed at us. Told us we couldn't stop him, that he would have what was his. He was mad, Jaina. Mad.

"'Shane tried to stop him, but Lantri killed him." Here the tears spilled over and slowly ran down her face. "I was scared. I couldn't risk contacting anyone. He would find out. So I tried to take Jaine and Tr'Lain to Moreta, Marshane's sister, and her husband, Furlo. I never even got to the border between our lands.

"Lantri and his guard caught us and he took them away from me. He told me to leave, he didn't care where I went, but he would kill me if I came back. ... He was going to take my children away from me." Her voice cracked and her hands where the same color as her hair as she clenched them together, but she pushed on to finish her story.

"I retreated to Moreta's for a time and then returned to reclaim my children. I knew I couldn't beat Lantri in a Magick fight, but I could beat him in a physical fight. I just had to be able to keep him from using his Magicks. In the end, we reached a stalemate, but only because he used my children against me." Her voice grew quiet, she whispered the last.

"I could kill him, but if I did so, my children would die. I did what I had to do, Jaina...I killed my brother - and with him ... my children." The last two words were barely audible as she broke down weeping in her chair.
