Did animals sense the earthquake?
"According to wildlife officials in Sri Lanka, there have been no reported animal deaths after huge waves washed 3.5km inland, swamping the country.
The waves got as far as the Yala National Park, the country's biggest wildlife reserve, killing 40 people.
But despite damage to buildings none of the elephants, crocodiles, jackals and deer there are reported to have died.
It's lead to claims animals have a sixth sense and can predict disasters but experts say they're just sensitive.
Conservation worker Debbie Marter said she was not surprised by the lack of death because wild animals notice changes in air pressure, vibrations, and sound.
"They've got extremely good hearing and they will probably have heard this flood coming in the distance," said Ms Marter.
There are many accounts of animals acting strangely or moving away from their area before natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Experts hope that if the reports turn out to be true, they may be able to help humans use these animal instincts. "
...what makes these guys experts, anyway? I think WE all know animals have a sixth sense.

They sure do at that, my dog knows a storm is coming hours before it arrives.

Re: Did animals sense the earthquake?
I saw a similar report on tv,Narsh. The reporter talked about a japanese couple who were riding an elephant at this little place right off the beach. They were on the elephants back, and all of a sudden,he broke his chains, and headed for the hills-with them aboard.5 minutes later, the tsunami hit.If they hadn't been on that elephants back, they, too, would have been casualties.
I told Ralph that I was willing to bet that at least half the people who were near the coastlines that were hit felt that something wasn't right. That they probably had a gut feeling that there was something coming. But,being "logical, thinking" MAN,they ignored what they felt.
I read one comment that there's a theory floating around that the reason so many children survived, when thier parents didn't,was because the kids sensed it,too, and had either climbed trees,or gotten on roofs.I would love to know how true that is.

Me too, shadeaux. It is probably true, as children haven't had the time to have the "animal" in them trained out yet, they are still relatively sensitive. Let us know if you find out anything, please.

Re: Did animals sense the earthquake?
I think every creature does have a sixth sense....its just not bredd out of beast and learned out of children yet. I know minutes before the ice storm hit, fritz absoloutly lost it....we had no clue anything of that magnatude was coming...the weirdest this was once it set in and the electric went off....he settled in for a powerless christmas lol
