I haven't really heard what the plan might be for this year, and it really does depend upon the weather. There were some days one summer where it would already be at least 80º by 8am and the class decided to meet before announcements for an hour or so, break for announcements and breakfast, then meet for another couple hours, and finish up mid-morning instead of 12:30pm. They still had 3 hours of class time each morning, but it was just broken up differently than everybody else. These were also days when the heat index was breaking 100º (we had one day a few summers ago that topped off at 115º!!)
Last summer the weather wasn't so bad (though we didn't have a digging class) and that probably wouldn't have been as necessary to do those early morning dig times. Also, I don't think the whole class would be at the dig site on any given day, so you might get up real early one day, and at a normal time the next.
I'm somewhat making this stuff up. Maybe Lori can help fill in the gaps here as she taught the class one summer.
