Digital Skies :: The Outbreak
Digital Skies :: Outbreak

Alice sat on the steps of an old and deserted buildings, looking somewhat befuddled. Her own d-arc, a one of depressing grey and blacks, seemed to have been picking up an obscene amount of digital activity. She wasn't worried about this - it had happened before - and if digimon didn't feel fear, why should she?

Dobermon sat loyally besides her, acting like Alice's only true companion. He didn't care enough to go and sort out these problems himself. He was happy enough to mellow out the best he could to the sweet sound of Shinjuku city life.

"Dobermon," Alice said, out of the blue, which made the canine jump splightly. He'd never get himself adjusted to Alice's voice, even if he lived to be a hundred. ",Can you...smell the data?"

The dog looked confused. He'd heard many things. Seen the data, heard the data, but smell? Was that even possible? He knew that, no matter what happened, the human world forced physics on everything, so he'd adapted to as such. Streams of fish appeared out of nowhere in his world would've been normal, but in this world, things out of the normal never happened. It was all so boring. He questioned Alice how people lived before digimon appeared and she responded with an vaguely eerie look.

"Smell?" Dobermon repeated.

"Yes, Smell." Alice replied. ",Don't dogs have good senses of smell?"

Damn. She's right there, Dobermon thought, but that doesn't mean I can.

"They do." Dobermon said, in agreement. ",But I am not a dog. I am a digimon. And data doesn't have a aroma, good or bad, I'm sure of it."

"Oh." His owner replied, looking back to her d-arc. ",I just wondered."

The two went back to sitting quietly. Dobermon's ears were more alert now, listening for unhuman movement. It wouldn't bother him if a digimon appeared out of the blue. He'd be able to shread it within seconds. The fact of the matter was the safety of Alice McCoy. If she got eaten, he'd never forgive himself.

He couldn't hear anything. He couldn't smell anything. He even resorted to tasting the air like a snake and using his weak eyesight. There was nothing to be seen.

Then, he questioned himself, why did he feel so nervous?

The answer would lie in many places, though none of which were at this old building. We leave this duo to go to something much, much cheerier.

"GRARGH!"

Cyberdramon was literally frothing at the mouth again. Renamon narrowed her eyes to non-threatening slits and calmly disappeared in a swirl of leaves.

"Easy, big boy." The kitsune warrior said, landing gracefully again behind the great bulk of the dragon. She smiled, somewhat in spite of her opposition. Cyberdramon turned around almost upon hearing Renamon's voice, in pure anger, and, by the same token, hit his enemy in her stomach, sending her flying.

Luckily for Renamon, and unluckily for Cyberdramon, the rookie's natural poise managed to see her through again. Pushing her feet against an upcoming wall, Renamon once again went spiralling through the air and ended up facing sideways to the ultimate.

It had seemed Cyberdramon's sense of logic was low, if indeed existant. Renamon could pull of the same tactic several times in a row before Cyberdramon worked out a counter.

It wasn't as even though the two digimon hated each other. It was more likely the tamers. Though Renamon's 'tamer' had a somewhat obvious dislike for Cyberdramon's 'partner', the two digimon got on well enough. They were taking the human's feelings out on each other.

That was, to say, Renamon was trying to beat the living crap out of Cyberdramon. It didn't help them having such a large level distance.

Suddenly, both digimon stopped, Cyberdramon mid way through swiping at the fox-like digimon. They looked around, then faced each other. Cyberdramon would've been happy enough to pass whatever he'd heard as some kind of mind trick, but Renamon was somewhat more vigilant.

"Did you hear that?" She asked, in her usual calm voice. She wasn't expecting an intelligent answer, and could've done better speaking to a cat, but seeing as Cyberdramon was a digimon, it made sense.

The larger black digimon nodded unsurely. He made a snarling noise which Renamon guessed meant 'yes' in Cyberdramon speak. The kitsune began to dart off, then stopped. She turned back, looking at the other digimon.

She decided it wouldn't be wise to leave Cyberdramon alone. The big idiot would either go and eat the next thing that walked past, or just do some other act of digital stupidity. She sighed, made a gesture with a paw for the digimon to follow, and waited. Cyberdramon made another growling noise.

"Come on!" Renamon yelled, turning away again and flicking her tail. ",I'm not leaving you here. You're stupid, yes, but how stupid exactly?"

Cyberdramon growled defensively, but followed anyway. He was surpisingly agile for something of his size and weight, following Renamon down the alleyway at an intense speed. Renamon herself was surprised. She'd passed this digimon off as a slow, lumbering moron capable of making noise. He did have some good things about him, so it seemed.

The two digimon, even though the day wasn't over yet, ran along the streets, keeping to the shadows of alleyways whenever they could. Though confident, neither knew what could happen to them if someone caught them. Even Renamon, the brains of the two, wasn't too sure of how the other citizens of the city treated digital 'monsters'.

They ran along sidestreets for what seemed an eternity. Cyberdramon's mind wandered, rarely staying on course, and Renamon had to constantly remind him to stay focused.

"Any kind of noise," Renamon said, sternly. ",Could mean our ends. You get that, Cyberdramon?"

She expected a grunt. Instead, Cyberdramon had leapt forwards, jumping into the air. His mouth was open.

"DESOLATION CLAW!"

His growling, snarl of a voice was easily heard by the kitsune digimon and anyone within a fixed radius. The fox digimon whinced, looking upwards at the digimon. He was almost hovering in midair, before he came crashing back down to the ground, smashing against the trashcans.

"What did you do that for!?" Renamon growled, loudly, knowing quietness was now pointless. Thanks to Cyberdramon, anyone would know that something non human was about.

"There's something - Gragh - up there!" The digimon said, picking himself up and looking around. ",Let's - grargh! - go!"

Renamon blinked. She hadn't expected Cyberdramon to be capable of speech, like any normal person. In this case, digimon, but the prospect remainded the same. The android dragon was now jumping up the side alley, causing huge dents in the brick walls. Renamon looked upwards yet more so, unable to see anything. She knew it was pointless to keep her stealthy self up, so she simply bonded up after her new-found 'partner'.

She looked around the rooftops. Cyberdramon seemed intent on chasing something, something that Renamon could not see. This infuriated her. Was Cyberdramon simply being stupid, like a dog, or had he really found something?

She followed, what with the great lump of black running ahead like the wind. She wondered how long this pathetic chase would take. She was sure nothing was there.

The digital world was filled with many joys. It was this particular day Ryo felt somewhat like an idiot. He'd accidently woken up a particular nasty piece of work and was, literally, alone. He hadn't meant to not notice the large greyish thing lying in the way.

The large grey thing didn't seem to understand this. It growled, angrily, and stood in a position Ryo found somehow intimidating. Fangs shown, eyes widened, and body in a general stance of destruction.

What Ryo didn't get, though, was the reason Cyberdramon hadn't got back yet. The digimon knew where the one stray digiport was. Unless it had closed in on itself. In which case, both of them were pretty much screwed.

What's up with this guy? Ryo asked himself. Probably a little cranky...Don't say I blame him, either.

Ryo's D-Arc was also on the move. His new oppenent, though foul and angry, was still being scanned on the go.

"Dark Tyrannomon." Ryo repeated, looking at the screen. ",Dinosaur digimon. Champion level. Attacks with Fire Blast."

He looked up at the enraged bulk of darkness, which obviously wasn't sobering up his feelings for the tamer. It didn't seem to be trying any fire attacks, which was always a good thing. There was one thing he noticed, though. The strength of the digimon's tail looked unnaturally strong.

"...Backs this up with Iron Tail?"

At that precise moment, Dark Tyrannomon spun around, swinging his massive tail around in a full circle as he did also. Ryo had been lucky with that one, his own intelligence overcoming that of the dinosaurs, and he'd been fortunate enough to dive out of the way.

The large digimon growled again. He wasn't particular quick thinking, on or off his feet, but was bright enough to work out this tamer was alone. Perfect. Flames began to build in his mouth. Ryo needed a miracle, again.

"BUBBLE BOOM!"

Once again, a handily placed event had saved Ryo's skin. He did seem to have natural luck. Maybe someone up there did like him. He knew it wasn't that big flaming bird, that was for sure. But that particular god didn't like anyone.

He turned, looking in the general direction of the attack. A patamon was beating it's wings madly to stay in the air, building up more air in it's mouth. Firing the attack again, Ryo wondered if a wild digimon was actually taking his side.

He was wrong in thinking, which would've been wishful. He looked down some and noticed the Patamon's presumed tamer. Particularly eerie looking guy. He was dressed entirely in white. This wasn't what was bothering him, though. It was the fact the guy seemed to have five black horns sticking out of his head.

Ryo blinked, but turned back to Dark Tyrannomon. The digimon was more interested in the threat than the prey, slashing his mighty claws at the little flying pig.

"I didn't know pigs flew." Ryo joked, to himself rather than anyone else. The Patamon was, however, fighting bravely. It was obviously a one-sided match.

"Bubble BOOM!" Patamon yelled again, firing the blast towards Dark Tyrannomon's nose. It hit, quickly. As Dark Tyrannomon seemed to prepare another attack, the two stopped in action, a parody to the events of Renamon and Cyberdramon.

They paused. Dark Tyrannomon suddenly fired a blast of blistering flames over the Patamon, before striding away as though nothing had happened. All present were looking at the large dinosaur as he exited, but then were drawn to the attention of the rookie digimon.

"Patamon?" The assumed tamer said, crouching down. ",You okay?"

The digimon gave a cough, flapping his wings to check they were operational. He managed to a quick nod, then closed his eyes. The digimon was taking a well-deserved nap. His tamer changed from crouching to sitting, looking somewhat bored. It was like zombie infestation. You had to wait for the injured or not at all.

"So..." Ryo said, breaking an otherwise unberable silence. ",Who are you anyway?"

"Makenshi." The other tamer, quickly, replied, looking at Ryo. ",The better question is who are you?"

"I'm Ryo Akiyama!" Ryo said, surprised the tamer didn't recongise him. ",Digimon Card King, some call me."

Makenshi failed to look impressed. He just kept a somewhat calm appearance and replied with a simple shrug.

"If you’re the digimon card king," Makenshi said. ",Why did you almost get eaten by that digimon?"

"He caught me off guard," Ryo then said, looking as the shape turned to a shadow in the horizon. ",If I had my digimon, he'd be data pancakes."

"Oh really?" Makenshi continued. ",Then tell me. Where is this 'digimon' of yours?"

Ryo paused to think that one over. He didn't particularlly know. He begged - and pleaded - that Cyberdramon was safe somewhere. He must've met up with someone by now. However, it all depended on who that was. He'd be at his happiest if Cyberdramon had found Rika, which would've meant a chance for another surprise 'reunion'.

"I thought as much." Makenshi said, looking back at his Patamon.

"Hey!" Ryo said, somewhat annoyed by this point. ",Don't you go thinking I'm some amateur tamer! If my digimon was here, he'd beat you to a pulp!"

"But he's not here." Makenshi's reply was. ",Is he?"

This infuriated Ryo some more, though he didn't show it. He didn't particularly like these people - bar Rika, of course - and they got on his nerves quite a bit.

"What are you doing here, anyway?" The white-haired black-horned bloke said. ",It's not like you thought you'd nip out for something to eat and 'accidently' ended up in the digital world."

"What am I doing here?" Ryo repeated. ",Waiting for my digimon to get back, that's what."

"Shouldn't he be back after sensing your being in trouble? Who knows, maybe he's digidust."

God, Ryo thought, to himself, in a way he wouldn't speak. Are you trying to piss me off?

Makenshi's expression, quite a difficult one to read, showed no scenes of dilberate sarcasm. Maybe he was being geniunely serious. Maybe he was a good actor. Who knew?

"Anyway," Makenshi said, picking Patamon up. ",I must be off."

With that, he was on his way once more. To where? He didn't particularly know. Ryo stood where he'd been the whole duration of this thing. After Makenshi had disappeared out of hearing of the other tamer, They both managed to grow looks of somewhat discontent on their faces.

"Wiseass." They both said, in unknown unison.

"I'm a virgin, unfortunately, this a really old tee shirt." The little blue creature said. Undoubtedly another digimon. He was, for once, with a suitable choice of tamer. ",Hey, you guy. Can we keep this?"

"NO." Was the blunt answer of his tamer, who was somewhat much taller than the little blue digimon. ",Put that back. And don't call me you guy!"

Any normal person talking to a blue creature would've been thought strange, but Takichuuya 'CJ' Motinya was too much of a logical kind of person to doubt.

"What about this one?" The little blue creature said again.

"And again, No."

Searching through all the old things littering the several boxes CJ had been loaded with to sort was too awkward to put into words. Though his perspective of those of the opposite sex - and, indeed, sometimes, the same sex - was low, it wasn't wise to say he hadn't ended up with several items he didn't wise to cherish.

"These are kinda funny shirts to wear, huh, you guy?" The blue thing said. ",Are you sure your normal?"

"They aren't mine." CJ said defenisvely. ",And don't call me that!"

"Oh sure." The creature said, rolling his eyes. ",I believe that why?"

"Veemon!" CJ suddenly snapped. ",Shut up and do something useful!"

Veemon, for that was the blue-things name, did decide to shut up after that. He continued searching through the boxes, pulling out yet more clothing with yet more dirtier messages. This was annoying CJ as much it was annoying Veemon to have to do as such.

He swore these people liked to see him get embarrased. He swore to it. Veemon snorted at one particular slogan, spraying more soda everywhere.

"Great." CJ said. ",Just great. Thanks Veemon. We're now flogging even dirtier than neccasary clothing."

"Ooh," Veemon said, mimicing the voice of his owner - only unnecasarily high-pitched and feminime. ",Bite me!"

CJ sighed. Why did everyone he know seem to want to annoy him?

It was back with Alice things had gotten hairy. She had let her curiousity take over her, following the signals of her D-Arc and had been led down an all-too familiar park area. At an old, crumbling pillar, her D-Arc had given off powerful signals. She had looked up to see an odd sight.

Absolutely nothing at all.

She gave a noise of 'Huh?' and Dobermon a growl. She wondered if Dobermon could see things she couldn't. It wouldn't have surprised her.

"Dobermon?" She asked, looking at the digimon. She noticed the canine's eyes had dilated, becoming white and somewhat ghostly.

With that, it pounced, bounding towards the pillar, spreading through the air. It seemingly tore, a great blueish coloured gash in midair.

She heard an all too familiar screech. Suddenly, Dobermon was standing before her, lifting it's head to the pillar. Firing a blast of blackened energy towards it, Alice felt her whole body tense. The black hit the whitened rock and the lights went out.

The end…
