Dolphin saved from tsunami lagoon
(a happy story for you gaia, and other dolphin people)
A dolphin which was trapped in a small lagoon after getting caught up in the tsunami in Asia has finally been freed by a rescue team.
The Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin was spotted about half a mile from a beach in Khao Lak in Thailand 10 days after the waves struck there.
He was seen by a man who was out searching for his wife.
The dolphin had become a symbol of hope for locals, amid all the death and destruction around them.
'She's out!'
Rescuers had already tried twice to rescue the creature, but failed because their nets were too small, and then wreckage on the bottom of the lagoon tore holes in the bigger nets allowing the dolphin to escape.
A crowd of around 150 people gathered to watch the rescue. As the dolphin swam to safety in the Andaman Sea, the men who led the rescue shouted: "She's out!"
Sadly, it's not known if her calf, which hasn't been spotted for a few days, will survive.
