Double Arm amputee learns to ride
This story was emailed to me and Carol gave me permission to post it here:

"At Pegasus, we had a close association with the Shriners Hospital. One of the riders referred here was a bi-lateral amputee...both arms were amputated to the shoulders due to an electrical accident. Between the hospital staff and I, we were able to develop a system so he could ride while awaiting his prosthesis. A large Velcro strap for his waist, reins were placed next to that and another Velcro strap went on top. With his upper body, he was able to ride with independence (our horses are VERY well trained) and his self esteem vaulted. Balance was always an issue, but he overcame many, many obstacles. We had side assist people in the event he lost his balance, but after having gone through such a devastating accident, losing his friends and all the rest of the story that each of us has, his self perception changed. He was 16 years old. Just one of the many stories at our place and thought it might brighten your day. Amazing, what these horses do for everyone. The mare was a Lippizan, Revere. She has gone to greener pastures, but her legacy lives on. Good luck to you and I will ask our web master if she will add the link to our web site.
