 EU has 'plan B' for Kosovo?

European Union works on the so-called 'plan B' for Kosovo that would enable recognition of independence on the basis of the UN Resolution 1244, German media said on Thursday.

The same sources say the leading nations of the EU moved to draw up a contingency plan to ensure recognition of independence for Kosovo without a new Resolution of the UN Security Council.

Radio Voice of America quotes Frankfurter Rundschau daily as saying the so-called plan B envisages a wide interpretation of the Resolution 1244 to enable the Kosovo's Assembly declare independence.

The newspaper says the plan B foresees that the UN Security Council debates the issue without passing a new Resolution.

"The president of the UN Security Council will assist through a declaration that will justify the wide interpretation of the current Resolution," German newspaper said.

The same sources allege that London, Paris and Berlin hope that EU members, who oppose independence for Kosovo, would not object the new interpretation of the Resolution 1244. This will mean that EU, in line with Martti Ahtisaari's plan, takes over the mission in Kosovo.

The eventual dividing-up of Kosovo, following the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence and recognition by the United States, is the key problem given the fact that most EU members are not supportive of Kosovo independence, such as Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Romania and Czech Republic. /end/

Ēameria is situated geographically on the north-west Greece. This beautiful region, has a rich Albanian heretage and it was only in the 1912 that is was annexed unfairly and unjustifiable to Greece. This was the aftermath of the decision of the great powers to give Ēameria to Greece, just as the great powers had made similar decisions to give Kosova and other Albanian territories to Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
