Final Fantasy XII details! Squaresoft has stunned the game world by announcing that it has been working on Final Fantasy XII for about a year now. Squaresoft president Takashi Suzuki says "Final Fantasy XII represents a whole new chapter in gaming history. The game is totally revolutionary. It is the first game ever where the player need not bother with a controller." No controller? We like it already! We asked Suzuki to elaborate. "The game was designed to provide a totally immersive experience. The main character is named Hero, and he is backed by a woman named Princess. In the game, Hero must save the world while gaining the love of Princess. Have you ever heard such an intriguing storyline? Anyway, by not needing to use a clunky, distacting controller, the player will be allowed to let him or herself be totally absorbed into the game." The game will also feature peripherals. They include a T-Shirt and a special hat that looks just like Hero's. When the player dons the wardrobe, he will feel as if he actually IS hero! The game is reported to feature 15 discs of beautful FMV, designed to captivate the player. "The beautiful thing" says Suzuki, "is that the player does not even need a game console to play the game. It will be released on DVD and VHS soon after the initial release." This game is a must have.

I LOVE FO!
LOL. Did you read my "final fantasy 11 details" or something? I was reading the FFX details, and I thought to myself, this sounds exactly like every other FF game, except the characters are getting dorkier each time, and names are getting stupider each time. Someday, FF35 will be about a character names Angabalangooo meeting a woman named Flipaflipflopflip to use a force named Longatongatridon, after their world has been destoryed.
But there actually IS a Final Fantasy Movie (no pretenses about it being anything other than a movie) that's almost out. What are my thoughts on it? I'm pretty skeptical. I think movie audiences and critics are somewhat more sophisticated than the average current gameplayers: they don't seem to fall for flash as much as game critics do. When that godzilla movie (with Mathiew Broderick and Hank Azara) was made a few years back, critics rightfully panned it and audiences rightfully didn't show up (It probably made a fortune overseas, though. Oh, well) If you took scenes from Godzilla, made it into FMV for a game, and tacked a crappy game onto, why do I have the feeling people would say it was one of the best game stories (and probably games) ever? I LOVE FO! Well, the Final Fantasy movie is out now. I was a little surprised that Roger Ebert gave it 3 1/2 stars, a nearly perfect score. I read the review, and it seems his praise is nearly due to the "graphics". He mentions the plot, of course, he was definitely more interested in the visuals. It's a bit odd, though. Just a couple of weeks ago, Tomb Raider opened. I have no idea if it's a good movie, but Ebert did give it 3 stars, which i'm sure is more than he gave any movie based on a videogame before. I wonder if videogame-based movies might have a chance of being good now? |

Re: I LOVE FO! I too was surprised that both Ebert and Roeper gave it a thumbs up. (I missed the part where they acually talked about the movie, but I saw the end.) I wonder how much they know about the games? Anyway, have you seen them review movies? What do you think of Roeper? To me, he seems like he's trying too hard to duplicate the chemistry that Ebert had with Siskel. When he disagrees with Ebert, he does it almost too vehemently, and it seems phony. |

I LOVE FO! No, I haven't seen them on TV. I probably should look for them (I don't know what time or channel they'd be on) I read Ebert's reviews very regularly. His page is one of the few last worthwhile pages on the net, now that most are no longer being updated, are just gone, or were never good to begin with. I see Roeper also works at the Chicago sun times, but it seems (from my first glance) he's just a general columnist/editorialist, whereas Ebert is clearly foremost a movie reviewer/critic. (though he wrote a few editorials about the presidential election last year) |

.... Speaking of "Godzilla", you know what else pisses me off? Jurassic Park 3!! Every preview I've seen of this movie so far just shows people running from dinosaurs and everyone talking about the special effects and how they created them. Um...HELLO!!! We did this TWICE already!! At this point, I really couldn't give a f*** if those people get eaten by the dinosaurs or not! |

Re: .... My local news plays clips from the show. The show is played at the worst possible time slot here, 11:35 PM on Sunday. Anyway, they played a clip of Roeper talking about the FF movie, and he seemed to praise the story just as much as the animation. I think I'm a little biased. Since I don't care for the series or the stories in the series, I figured the FF movie would be like most recent Square games. Flashy yet boring computer animation and a convoluted plot with cliche characters. I might check it out, though. I should give it a fair chance. I liked the original Jurassic Park. Never saw the second one. Just wasn't interested. Same with the third one. Like you said, it's just the same thing. ![]() |
