Yasha kept her head low, hidden in her hood, as she walked the streets of Tar Valon. Her feet seemed to have a mind of their own as they lead her through the cobbled streets. The slight breeze carried scents of food and Yasha's stomach grumbled. Rubbing her stomach under her cloak she promised herself to find food later. Her eyes roamed the different signs searching for a particular one. Unfortunately her mind got caught up in the nostalgia of being back in the city, so near to the White Tower.
It had been years since she had been in the city but she still remembered it. Her father had sent her to the White Tower to be tested. When it was found she did not have the ability to even be taught the one power she was sent back home after two months. She pleaded for those two months. The tale she told her father was so that she could be acquainted with Aes Sedai since every good Queen should know her allies. The story she told the Aes Sedai was a bit more the same but with less cheekiness.
Those two months were exciting to say the least. They treated her like Aes Sedai treat all nobility. Although some found she was not the push over they believed of her because she was sixteen. The memory of telling Tanae Sedai of the White Ajah just how she thought of her rudeness made her smile a bit. In those two months she had met many Aes Sedai that she trusted and learned a great deal from. It was the first time she had met Alexia Sedai. Yasha had looked up to that woman for a longtime. She practically shadowed her for weeks in the Tower. Alexia told her things she would have never imagined being true and to this day she was still a bit in awe of her. When it was time for to leave she and the White sister had become friends and Yasha had come to believe that the White Tower was very much a place she could turn to if she ever had a need.
The smile froze on her face as she remembered why she was here. Staring at a cobblestone at her feet she frowned. She was not here to remember the distant past or even the fact that she had been trusting of Aes Sedai. The trail for Myrinna led her back here.
Her eyes that had stopped sweeping the different signs of stores and houses continued again. She had been given information about the former Red’s whereabouts. It had taken her weeks to pick back up the trail but for some reason Myrinna had been clumsy. Now she was in Tar Valon looking for a particular store where Red is hiding. Her eye suddenly found what they had been looking for. It was a strange sign for a herb store called the Bird of Dawn. Strange name for a strange sign, she thought as she hurried to the door. She swung open the door and looked around. It was neat and tidy with racks and shelves full of herbs and potions. The front of the store was empty and Yasha, not in the least bit worried about being caught, went behind the store counter into the room beyond.
Slowly she entered the room only to find it deserted also. Sunlight at her back made the room visible enough for Yasha to scan the rest. She looked around taking in the tattered furniture and overturned table. There had been a scuffle here but it was none of her concern. She was about to turn back were she came when movement caught her eye. She turned to the long drape near the far window. Quickly she took out the only weapon she had, the small Cairhienin dagger Caladin had gave her, and moved toward the window. She had just put her hand out to reach for the drape when she was knocked over and landed on. The pain in her back was sharp but not horrible. She fought the person on top of her. They rolled and she pushed the person up against the overturned table. She grabbed at her head and cracked the person skull against the wood. A muffled groan followed the person sliding away from her and Yasha quickly moved away and looked for her dagger. When she had it she went back over to the body next to the table. When she looked at her assailant’s face she almost stabbed her. “So I finally found you.” Her voice sounded cold even to herself. Another groan was heard from Myrinna but she did not speak. Yasha slapped the woman to get her attention. “Your head did not hit that table hard enough so get up…. now!” Yasha moved away and stood as the Red rubbed her head and sat up. Her grip on the dagger tightened as she watched her attacker stand. Yasha wondered why the woman had not channeled yet. Myrinna rolled her shoulders and grimaced as she pushed her hair out of her face. She gave Yasha a calm look all Aes Sedai mastered so well and waited.
Quickly Yasha moved, grabbed her, and had the tip of the dagger to Myrinna’s neck before her Aes Sedai calm had warn off. “Why haven’t you channeled? Your life is being threaten witch why have you not tried to kill me?” The heat of her anger bore down on Yasha. It made her voice a harsh whisper in the woman’s ear. In her head the only thing she could think of was spilling this woman’s blood. Why she asked such a question now was beyond her knowing. “I…I can’t. I had been stilled.” The shaky answer made Yasha all the angrier. The tip of her blade dug into the skin of the Aes Sedai’s neck drawing blood. “Did you kill him?” Her voice now sounded shaky. The woman was very still but Yasha waited. The fear she held over the woman was not enough. Nothing would ever be enough. Not even her death? She ignored that thought and pressed the blade even more into her throat. “Answer ME!” Her shout made Myrinna gasp. “I had not meant to he bolted into the way of an Asha’man that tried to attack me. I had tried to go to him but before I knew it was caught and knocked down. I hit my head and I lost the source. Before I could draw on Saidar again I was stilled. I had not meant to… I had not meant to kill him…. please I did not mean to do it!” Yasha was sobbing by the time the woman was done. She had not lessened her grip on the dagger but the tears would not stop. A sharp pain had started to blossom in her chest as she moved the tip of the blade a bit. “By that as it may Myrinna you shall have no mercy from me. I don’t pity you.” With that she was about shove the blade into the woman’s throat when a loud shout followed by something that held her arm stopped her.
“Leave her Yasha. Her punishment is for the Tower to decided not you. But I promise you will have a say in what the punishment is.” Myrinna slithered away and the pain in Yasha chest grew. “Alexia, unhand me. She killed him her punishment is that I kill her.” Alexia walked into the room alone although Yasha was sure others were with her. The woman’s face showed sympathy but Yasha would not yield to that. She had been alone for months and this moment was the only thing that had sustained her. “Give over Yasha. You are a Queen. You know this is unjust.” “I stopped being that person months ago Alexia. I will not say it’s because my husband was killed that would be untrue.” Still held in place by the one power holding her arms Yasha closed her eyes. “It was the day I decided to kill that woman that I stopped being just.” The pain that had been in her chest suddenly dropped to her stomach. Wanting to double over Yasha moaned in pain. Suddenly her body dropped to the floor. Curling up Yasha cradle her stomach and Alexia rushed over. She felt a sudden chill where Alexia touched her but the pain did not subside. “Blood and ashes I hate I can’t heal anything!” Yasha felt other hands on her as others rushed in the room. Alexia barked orders that she be taken to the Tower posthaste. “Alexia do not do anything with out me.” Her voice was low but Alexia heard her and nodded then Yasha fainted.
