I call myself a christian, but religion to me is more about ethics and moral tha nbelieving in God. We all know humankind evolved from apes and were not created from dust or whatever the bible says. Anyway, I believe in life after death and stuff, so I wouldn´t call myself an atheist.

Religion is a just a catalyst, for the manipulation on humans. It prevents them from thinking freely, while poisoning their minds with faultly visions of good and evil. It causes more hate and anger than love and protection. It's corrupted and it's just steering away people from their own life. I hate it... it's unneccesary. And I wouldn't claim myself an 'atheist' because I don't want any title like that. I'll just be 'open minded.' :)

If you´re referring to the wars between people of different religions, let me tell yo uthis. Humans have always fought, and they always will. If there were no religions we would just find another reason ti kill each other.

Never noticed that. I do the same thing I´d do if I wouldn´t be a christian.

I disagree completely. Religion and faith have helped many peopel through hard times. I´ve even seen an old woman face death with a smile on her lips because of her strong belief n God.

There. Anything else?

Are you kidding? It makes me laugh how people can believe in something, someone made up centuries ago! Then the news spread about that faith. Humans are so guilible (sp?). It's all a lie. Most people who have a religion usually were brought up by it in childhood, not choosing their own path.

Never noticed that. I do the same thing I´d do if I wouldn´t be a christian.
I would be referring to those pathetic "hardcore Christians."

I can't be called an atheist. I believe in the existence of God or of a power somewhere that we term as "God". What I don't believe in is religion. Religion is only another way that human beings have found to segregate themselves from others and cause humanity pain.

Re: God...religion.
I was raised Lutherin, but my family was never that devoted to church... the last time I went (not counting with my friend and my ex since I was staying with them) was when I was about 9... I've never felt that that religion was the one for me, however, so around the time I was 15, I realized what I had been looking for was in Wicca. So now I'm a pagan and completely content. :D But I am completely for any other religion anyone has, so long as it's good and loving.
I just HATE it when people try to convert me or preach at me, or even worse, feel the need to condem me and my beliefs.

I'm Roman Catholic. In my church we believe in god no matter what. Tho sometimes I feel like my views on the religious life aren't all what Priests say it to be. And did anyone know that only 3 of the Ten Commandments are Catholic? The other seven are Jewish...

Daisy: But I don't want to be a chicken. Can't I be something less... Chickeny?

Re: God...religion.
Interesting. I must say that I agree with most all of the opinions in this topic. "Religion" to me is just another word (and words as we know are not sufficient) to describe one's accepted belief system.

I am totally with Deranged on the open-mindedness point. Religion is a great thing that can inspire, but those who follow it must be wary of programming. Do not forget that religion's formal roots dwell in power and manipulation; while many of your average church-goers are trying to be the best they can be, others are conforming idiots (forgive my use of the meaningless word), and those are the ones we here the most about.

Here is my point: Erase everything you have ever been taught and think for yourself. You may still feel the same way once you have done this, but having analyzed the reality that you were put on earth with naught but feelings and programming, perhaps you can develop your own beliefs, whether they are in agreement with your current religion or no.

Personally, my religion is "I do not know as much as I think I do". Don't get me wrong; I have no problem with Christianity and other organized religions, except for the pathetic garbage that has been carried through the years, such as "If you are a bad boy then you will go to hell and burn in eternal fire forever" I mean, come on now.

You can still be totally Christian, but at least be "realistic" in the sense that you are true to what you feel. Well, that is my 2 cents.

so not me. Christianity is supposed to be the way of forgivness, not perfection, HONESTLY!!!! If you're going to state your opinions, Arveleg, state them PROPERLY!! I have a feeling that all people who that that Christians are "Idiotic perfections" ...well....IDIOTIC (no ofence meant, of course!)

Re: God...religion.
None Taken. I admit that maybe I was a little harsh on the "Hell" thing, as there are many forms of Christianity.

First off, let me point out that I did not say that all Christians are idiots; had I done so I would be the idiot, and like I said "forgive the use of the meaningless word" as it is purely made out of frustration.

I was raised Lutheran, and was taught that forgiveness was the way, however specifically in bible debates, I could not seem to avoid people who would say: "the bible is 100% true, and those who deny it, deny God", for a lame example. Quoting stories of Job and Abraham, and god having people stoned to death. As a very small child I, (like most children) were told about Demons and Satan and Hell and all kinds of vile crap that really has no basis in reality, or logical thought. Basically, I got very tired of being told that daring to disagree with my church was somehow a mortal sin. Don't get me wrong; my Pastor always respected my thoughts, as an open-minded individual; it is just the majority that go to church just to be respected that are dillusional, and they are the voices that you always are hearing (some of this may just be my negative outlook showing through).

You obviously took offense, and none was intended; I am not Bible bashing, I am just tired of it being used as an arguement for what is. I should have been this specific in my last post. Nice conversation by the way:)
