Guide to Setting up the Quickbar (long)
NOTE: Some of the formatting didn't come out right. I did this in Word and it looked right. Anyway, if you muddle through it, you'll understand.

All too often I’ve managed to set up my quickbar in a haphazardly manner, only to cause confusion down the road. In order to overcome this, I have had to develop new strategies. The intention of this article is to share with you my recommendations. Included are tips for various classes, in respect to configuration of the quickbar.
Many of these quickbars will rely on macros to accomplish a given task.
Tips:
* Even if you have your quickbar setup, remove all items from it. We will start with a entirely
blank quickbar
* It is always best to use a piece of paper to workout your quickbars in advance, you have 10
quickbars – organize!
* Remember that each quickbar has 10 spaces, however, we will use 2 spaces,
leaving 8 spaces for items; each quickbar should have a theme (see below).
* Casters will always want a quickcast and/or sprint on each and every quickbar
* Clerics should place a medium/large heal spell on each quickbar, except buff quickbars
* Tanks should put a Taunt style (that does not require an opening move – Enrage for
example) on each quickbar
* Some ideas for a theme to each quickbar include:
* Solo
* Group
* Defensive/Offensive
* RvR
* Buffs
* Heals
* Miscellaneous
* Trade skills
Since you have a blank quickbar, it should be on quickbar #1 to begin (the default quickbar is #1 and is labeled so). The quickbar will be in vertical (up and down) mode and located in the upper left hand corner of the game Window. Location of the quickbar on the screen is unimportant, however, the alignment (vertical or horizontal) will play a role.
The first thing to do is change the quickbar to it horizontal position. This can be done by finding the “o” inside the quickbar, next to the numbered labeled. Click on this repeatedly – there are 3 settings – (1) Vertical alignment mode, (2) Horizontal alignment mode, and (3) Hidden alignment mode – find the horizontal alignment mode. Now that your quickbar is in horizontal alignment, we can begin to populate the quickbar with items.
I like to have my quickbar set up in the upper left hand corner, although this technique will work with the quickbar setup in any corner. If you have followed the instructions to this point, the default quickbar, quickbar #1 will look like this:

The number keys located at the top of the keyboard correspond to positions on the quickbar – this is where the quickbar gets its power. Pressing the “1” key for example, will perform whatever action is associated with position 1 on the quickbar, pressing “6” will perform action associated with position 6 on the quickbar, etc.
Now lets begin the process of populating the quickbar with a couple macros. You will need to repeat these steps for all 10 quickbars. The first macros we will create will be called “VCR buttons”. These VCR buttons will allow us to *quickly* switch between various quickbars. We will be creating a forward and a backward VCR button. The first VCR button we will create will be the backward VCR button. This will be located in position 1 on each of the quickbars – remember you will need to create this macro for each quickbar (i.e., 10 times). The macro is created like this:
/macro << /qbar 10
After you type that in at the command interface, a button will be attached to your mouse cursor labeled “<<”. Drag and drop this into position 1 of quickbar 1. Now press the number 1 key along the top of the keyboard...neat huh?
You should now be on quickbar 10. Create another macro labeled “<<”. It will be created from the command interface like so:
/macro << /qbar 9
Again, a button will be attached to your mouse cursor labeled “<<”. Drag and drop this into position 1 of quickbar 9. Now press the 1 key on the number keys along the top of the keyboard. You should now be on quickbar 9. Repeat this process until you’ve returned to quickbar 1. Just decrease the macro by 1 each time you create the new “<<” button. Therefore for quickbar 9’s << button /qbar will be 8, for quickbar 8’s << button /qbar will be 7, etc.
All of your quickbars will now look like this:

Now we will create the forward VCR button. The same principle as the backward VCR applies. You will create a forward VCR button for each of the 10 quickbars. Rather than decreasing the number in the macro by one each time you create VCR button, you will increase the number by one. Therefore the first VCR button to take us quickly to quickbar 2. Let’s create this now:
/macro >> /qbar 2
Repeat creating >> buttons until you return to quickbar 1. Create one for each quickbar.
Now that you’ve created a forward and backward VCR button, your toolbar should look like this:

With the 1 and 2 buttons as your VCR buttons for navigation, you can quickly navigate through all of the quickbars.
Remember the themes you created prior? Now it is time to implement them. Keep in mind that whenever you log on, quickbar 1 will be displayed. Try and use quickbars 10, 1, and 2 for whatever your main style of play relies on. Using these 3 quickbars will give an available 24 buttons to perform actions with. Below are examples of these 3 quickbars (one set is for a cleric, one set for tank, one set for caster).

Obviously, you have many free spots to add other spells and skills. The key is thinking ahead about the organization of your quickbars. In a heated battle, your ability to quickly get to the proper quickbar could save you and your group’s life.
