Hagrid
Do you guys think there will be a reinstatement/exhoneration of Hagrid in Book six or seven? Will he be formally cleared of the charges for which he was expelled from Hogwarts?
This seems to me to be a bit of an inconsistency, unless I'm missing something. For most intents and purposes, Hagrid seems to be cleared. He's hanging out with the minister of magic in book three, he gets to remain on the grounds, he gets to teach a class. Surely if everyone really thought he was responsible for the original opening of the chamber of secrets, he wouldn't have been allowed to do all those things.
However, his wand is still hidden in the pink umbrella, he isn't supposed to do magic, and he's never been allowed to re-commence his magical education.
I just wonder if he'll be once again allowed to openly practice and learn magic.

Re: Hagrid
I've wondered this, as well. When are they going to let Hagrid be a fully trained wizard?
I have no idea which way to predict. I feel that, surely, J.K. Rowling thought of this. She's so thorough everywhere else. On the other hand, she's sort of skimmed over it by reinstating him to his position and showing that he was given a position of respect and in the OotP, etc.
So...I don't know. *shrug*

He should be!
However, if JKR were going to reinstate Hagrid, it should have been done immediately after events in CoS. He should have been shown to be taking Remedial Potions with Snape or trying to squeeze into a desk into a desk in Flitwick's class. (Lovely images, aren't they?)
No, I think Hagrid's position on the fringe of wizard society is set. It is one of the items that seems poorly thought out actually.
I'm afraid I am one of those who does see large gaps in JKR's design of the wizarding world. I still love the books and read them with great pleasure, but she hasn't bothered to fill in huge holes where she simply isn't interested in the topic.

I heard a rumor or read it somewhere that Mrs. Rowling is planning on doing a book after the series that will fill in some of the holes. Unanswered questions answered. I don't know for sure that she will do this, but it would be nice.

Ooh...a Harry Potter Companion...or, perhaps, Hogwarts, A History.

Yeah, I agree that Hagrid should be allowed to complete his magical education. Hey! Maybe he'll be the "one student" that keeps Hogwarts open!
I've thought that it would be nice to see a volume called "Hogwarts: A History" also.

I wonder if Hagrid doesn't want to finish his education. He just doesn't seem like the kind who cares about it anymore.
He might know he'll never be that good of a wizard anyway, and it's better to let people think he's not good cause he didn't get to finish his education rather than just not being good.

Re: He should be!
well, he seems interested in occasionally doing magic, even if he's not iterested in actually re-commencing his formal education. Getting to do a bit of magic is one of the reasons he mentioned for volunteering to go get Harry back in book one (although I'm sure getting to see Harry and do Dumbledore a service were the two main reasons). But yeah, I definitely cannot see him trying to squeeze himself into a desk or sit in remedial potions, and besides, now that he's a teacher, it would probably detract to his authority.
Perhaps what is now holding Hagrid back is his ancestry. Perhaps his release from prison and acceptance at Hogwarts had more to do with Dulbedore's vouching for him. Snape has had similar difficulties.
