Help shadeaux! Emergency!
You are the first one I thought of when a friend told me about her pup. She has a wiemeriner <----- i know that spelling is wrong, but you probably know what i'm talking about. This is her second one. The first one died of some unknown problem at about a year old. Now this second one is the same age, showing the same symptoms and the vet doesn't know what is wrong. Different litter, different vet....mystery. the dog has not eaten in about 5 days, and won't drink either. She is taking him (skeeter) to have an IV placed today. Have you heard of ANYTHING these dogs are prone too? Or have any suggestions?
I will watch for an answer. I may even dig out my phone card and call if I don't read something from you soon.

Love ya, and thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Re: Help shadeaux! Emergency!
It could be a lot of things, but the first thing that comes to mind is that his intestines have gotten twisted. This happens a lot in larger breeds.Especially the "wasp-waisted" ones, like Wiemeraners,Great Danes, etc. It's called intestinal torsion.A lot of vets don't think to check for it,they'll test for parvo first, because the symptoms are similar.Loss of appetite, sometimes diarrhea, dehydration.Surgery is required, and if it isnt done, they go down fast.

It could also be that he's swallowed something and caused a blockage, but I doubt she would have two dogs do that at the same age.It could also be parvo. But I would have the vet check for torsion right away.

I hope she gets it resolved.Weimeraners are great dogs, one of my favorite breeds.Give her my best.Love ya.

Thank you, thank you. I called Helen with your information this evening because I was gone a good part of today. She wanted me to tell you thank you so much. The vet kept the dog all night last night hooked up to an iv and planned to do exploratory surgery this morning to follow the intestines from the stomach on until he found a problem as it was the only thing else he could think to do. But this morning when he went in to get the dog to take him (skeeter) to surgery, the dog was bouncing off the walls back to his old enthusiastic self. I told Helen the name of what you thought it could be to keep in mind in case skeeter has a relapse. So that dog had a miracle happen to it! She was practically crying as she told me about it as she loves that dog so much.

I'm so glad to hear it.And I can imagine how she feels.Weimeraners are one of the most intelligent breeds I can name, and they just make you fall in love with them.Tell her to give him a big hug for me.

Love ya.
