Herodotus does not mention the Jews
For those who have read Herodotus's "Histories".

When Herodotus was writing in the mid fifth century B.C. he was the first true historian the world had ever seen (read). He made every effort to travel the known world and made copious notes about all kinds of abscure peoples from the farthest known peoples in the western mediteranean, Italy, Greece, Africa, Asia Minor, the Middle East, India, ect... ect... ect...

He interviewed the people of the areas and thourouly researched his information. Though his methods and conclusions have been questioned by modern historians, he remains the first of his kind for that epoch.

Yet, Herodotus never once mentions a race of people called Israelites, Jews, Hebrews, ect... How is it that in 500 B.C., at the twighlight of the purported Kings of Israel, albeit sometime the Babylonian and the Persian exchange of power in the area, Herodotus has never heard of a race of people in the middle east that would be linked with the Israelited / Jews.

Many take this as proof positive that Flavius Josephus concucted much of the history we presetly take as gospel concerning Israel's role and prominence in the Middle East.

Something to think about....

Re: Herodotus does not mention the Jews
BTW

Anyone who has read "Titus Andronicus" by Shakespeare shouldn't be as impressed by his briliance. He stole the whole ending from Herodotus story (supposed to be true) of Cambyses, the Persion king.

Cambyses' right hand man (I can't remember his name), get revenge on Cambyses by inviting him to dinner at his home. Surprises him after a delicious meal with the news that what Cambyses just ate was the meat of his own children cooked in the stew.

Hannibal Leckter would have loved this.

Sincerest apologies to all the unfortunates who read the above.

Re: Herodotus does not mention the Jews
Concerning Shakespeare, many of his works were not original creations. Many of Shakespeare's stories were actually appropriated from others. The plot for "Romeo and Juliet," for example, was not invented by Shakespeare or even first adapted for an English-speaking audience by him. It was actually Arthur Brooks who first did that (his poem was called "Romeus and Juliet" ). In fact, many details of Shakespeare's plot are directly lifted from Brooks' poem: Romeo and Juliet's meeting at the ball, their secret marriage, Romeo's fight with Tybalt, the sleeping potion, and the timing of the lover's eventual suicides.
