If gifts are an art then my gift is crafting
I was a cabinet maker and carpenter before I became disabled. this lead me to take my ability with my hands and tools to create my own tools for my shamanic purposes.
I've also made my own drum, flute, rattles, medicine wheels, assorted catchers for special situations, whatever it looks like i need to do something....
the following is part of a post made at Winged Wolf's board.

On the topic of drums i built my own about 9 years ago when we cleared this land. i saved the bottom of an ancient cedar. Before cutting it i said a prayer to it's spirit and told it of what i intended to do.
And asked that it help me with my path.
A wonderful drum i now have for use.
i used rabbit skin to make the drum and and real rawhide for the stringing of the hide to the drum. All were taken from this land i live on. appropriate prayers were said at each items gathering/collection.
i also have a turtle-shell rattles that I made and use frequently in my homemade sweat lodge. no one really wants to go inside of it but me but that's ok.
and, I often use a cedar flute I drilled out.
decorated some slightly.
if you can't tell, i do a lot of arts/crafts stuff, since I was a cabinet maker and installer , things come easy to me this way.

Wow Wolfscout, your respect and love for the earth, trees and animals really shows thru. How nice to have the talent and resources to build these yourself. They sound wonderful.

I tend to favor the rattles.
1 for the sweat lodge as the steam makes my first rattle stop rattling.
When I found a shell to make the second one, I imporoved on the process and made one which could withstand the lodge and most other activities much better.
I use only local products therefore ensuring a connection with the earth and locale flora/fauna.
ties it all together and brings them into the lodge for a hopefully more successful event.
I think I've made progress here in recent years.
Maybe when I get some film I'll scan the pics and post them for others to see. different and interesting.
Just thought someone here might like to know.
I don't sell or trade or anything along that line.
just as i have a need to accomplish something or try something new.
edited for spelling sorry hands swelling.
