If you're going to move...
...don't use United Van Lines or any of their affiliates.

It's been almost two months since I've moved, and I'm STILL having problems with them. All they do is make mistakes. I don't feel like typing the whole situation, but everything from lost items to numerous billing errors has occurred. They're really bad communicators, too. I had to file a compliant with the Better Business Bureau to get United to reply to my inquiries.

Is U-Haul one of their affiliates? I am probably gonna move to Ohio in the spring of 2002 sometime to be with Smoosh....We were gonna rent a U-Haul...

I haven't a damn clue how I'm going to go about moving to New York. :/

In the end, how can they possibly stand against that?"

No, U-Haul is an independent company. To clarify, There are relocation services that contract their moves to major van lines. So if you use a moving service, don't use one that contracts to United. (Some other major van lines are Bekins and Mayflower.)

But speaking of U-Haul, I rented a truck from them in '98 for a move, and it broke down 100 yards up my street. (Fortunately, it was a quick fix, but still...) I've yet to make a move where nothing goes wrong.

Aussie, you've been planning a move for quite some time now, haven't you? What's your situation? You still in school?

Re: If you're going to move...
No, I got a part-time job, but for the most part I'm just a bum mooching off my parents. I have been meaning to move for some time, but my plans changed several times. Right now I'm just waiting for my parents to get used to my boyfriend and the thought of me moving, so I can move in with him in New York. I might take a few classes at his college once I'm there, I'm not sure.

I LOVE FO!
Once my sister rented a U-Haul for an interstate move. She was hungry and went through the drive through at McDonalds. Those "low clearance" signs aren't a joke: She hit it and damaged it, and was worried she was going to get in trouble, but they let her go.

Well, we've just moved.

This week was my spring break, so this was our chance. We flew out to NJ on Monday. We picked up the Tuesday, and started loading it up. We finished packing on wendsday. Thursday, we woke up early to get ready, but the turn signal/brake lights on the towing dolly for her car weren't working. Turns out the bulbs were burnt out. We took it to the place and they replaced them, and we got on the turnpike by 10 am. Then, basically I just drove all day, through Pennsylvania and Ohio. We made it to Toledo's limits around 9 pm, and our place a little after that. Today we unloaded the truck. It was a lot easier to do that than to load it. We were almost done by the time we breaked to get lunch. The truck wasn't due back until tomorrow, but we just got back from returning it. Now we just have to unpack and organize all her stuff.

BTW, we went with Ryder. It was my sister's suggestion (she moved interstate before) but FO called U-Haul first just the same. Based on their quotes, I think we saved $400 by going with Ryder.

I had Ninja Spirit and The Legendary Axe (for the Turbo) waiting for me when we got back. I haven't tried them yet, but I looked at NS's instruction book, and am a little worried: it sounds like the controls are reversed (like using B for jumps and A for attacks in an NES game) I hope it's just a typo or something. Since I've just been playing Game Boy, I made it to dungeon 5 in Oracle of Ages. I'll try to stick with it until I finish it, unless I get really stuck. I sort of did that with Link's Awakening, too. I started by playing it as a portable game - that is, only playing in bits and pieces when I was on the road - but by the time I found the 4th dungeon in that game, I stuck with it and blew through the rest.
