Ikaruga on Dreamcast? This is a space shooter made by Treasure that is sort of a pseudo sequel to Radiant Silvergun, and apparently also has some elements of Silhouette Mirage's dual-color system. It's actually intended to be an arcade game. BUT, it's an arcade game written on Naomi hardware. Naomi hardware is basically just a Dreamcast's guts. In other words, a home port to Dreamcast should be trivial. But will it happen? No one expected Treasure to make Radiant Silvergun for the Saturn during THAT system's dying days, and yet they did it anyway. Will we see something similar happen to Ikaruga? Or will they decide that the Dreamcast's life has far sense gone, and may consider a port to some other system... PS2? Game Cube? Or perhaps have Ikaruga never leave the arcade? Treasure games have a history of being uncommon, if not downright obscure. I hope it would come out for Dreamcast. If it would, I think I would get it. Crawl and 1000 |

Re: Ikaruga on Dreamcast?
I would, too. I'm hurting for a good Dreamcast game. (And if one more person tells me to get Shen Mooey or JGR I'm going to kill them.)
The other DC shooters out there don't appeal to me. I read in EGM that there's a shooter coming out called Zanac X Zanac that's based on the Zanac game for NES. Does anyone know what system it's for? Will it be a domestic release? |

I LOVE FO! Zanac X Zanac should be a Playstation game. I heard it the summer that Compile was aiming for a simultaneous release in the U.S. and Japan this fall. If they don't release it here, I'm importing. As for Dreamcast games, the question isn't what games I would recommend so much as, which could I even recommend? I haven't played tons of them, and I've finished fewer yet. This may be the DC games I own... 1 MDK 2 You already have it. 2 Mars Matrix You already have it. 3 Soul Calibur I thought it was OK; I strongly doubt you'd love it. 4 Sonic Adventure Got it as a discount item; doesn't seem like I'll even love it. 5 Grandia 2 Haven't tried it much yet. 6 Toy Commander Discount item. 7 Crazy Taxi Same deal 8 Virtua Fighter 3 TB Collector's item, once again. 9 Giga Wing Don't think you'd like it. 10 Giga Wing 2 Same deal. 11 Gunbird 2 Same deal. 12 Cannon Spike Eh... I don't really care for it too much. 13 Capcom vs SNK Eh, seems like a shallow fighter to me. There are 2D fighters I'd rather get before this one. FO seems to like it, though. 14 Typing of the Dead Well, it's definitely novel. And, I wanted something else to do with my keyboard. 15 Skies of Arcadia Haven't played much. If the game focuses too much on gameplay, I doubt I'll like it, because I think the battle system seems slow, and I'd rather not have Lunar flashbacks. If it focuses more on story, I doubt you'd like it. 16 Jet Grind Radio 17 Shen Mu Um, I guess I can't recommend these? ;) Both were discount items for me. Jet Grind Radio could belong in the museum of modern art (not that that says anything for its gameplay, which I haven't played enough to be qualified to comment on) Shen Mu... well, aside from it being cheap, it has an arcade. Hopefully, for me, it'll be worth buying Shen Mu just for Space Harrier. 18 Bangai-O This is the one game on this list that you don't have and which I feel competent to comment on. I reminds me of Contra. In abstract terms, that is. Both were about equally creative at the time of their release. Both are action games. Both end up being a little shallow, so I beat both of them quickly, Contra in one day, Bangai-O in 3. And Bangai-O doesn't have much replay value (it has high scores, but who cares for this kind of game?) Or variety. I dunno. It's fun while it lasts. I'd give it 3 stars. I don't think you're the type that just says, this game is good because it's fun. And, there are other 3 star games for, say, the NES I might recommend first because they might be cheaper, and some (like The Guardian Legend) have some exploration, which I think you're fond of. I LOVE FO! There's a petition for releasing Ikaruga on Dreamcast: www.petitiononline.com/qe3/petition.html Yeah, I know, some people say petitions never work, but A) It's already got close to 500 signatures. This would not be enough for Square or Nintendo, who want their games to sell in the millions, to take notice, but Treasure games are typically very short runs. 500 people is a significant percentage of Treasure's audience. B) Like I said, the game is essentially done. To port it to Dreamcast, all they'd need to do is add things like home title and option screens, and add places for the game to load off the disc to the DC's RAM. Might be worth signing. I LOVE FO! I've heard news that this game might indeed be released for Dreamcast, even at this late date. Crawl and 1000 |

Ikaruga I heard it will be released for PS2. I hope it will be released for DC, as that will probably mean a 19.99 price tag (and I'll have the system). Everyone was saying how great it will be to have a sequel to the greatest shooter ever. I said "R-Type already has a sequel!" But seriously, after hearing your comments on it, I have to chuckle when people call it the best shooter ever. (You well know how people go overboard with hyperbole. I don't need to say more.) |

I LOVE FO! Well, on a scale of overrated games, where Lunar is at the bottom (terrible) and a game like Dracula X is somewhere in the middle (very overrated), Radiant Silvergun may be overrated, but... It's a game I can admire, in some ways - many ways, even - but I have a hard time getting into it, or having fun with it. The nice thing about import DC games is that I think you can boot them with just a utopia boot disc. Heck, if it comes out for DC, import only, and I get it and it works with my boot disc, I could copy you a boot disc, easy. And, who knows, maybe a publisher could bring it out here, too. I mean, Bangia-O, and several other DC games, was (were) published here, but not in huge numbers; maybe some enterprising company would like to make at least a profit on it, no matter how little. Actually, that'd be better, anyway. If it's import-only, I wouldn't expect to see it with a $20 price tag; more like $50. Crawl and 1000 |

Shooters So I guess the Ikaruga thing never panned out? Anyway, I got a complete Zanac for the NES, and I'm trying to get Thunder Force V for PSX. Next time I go home, I might just buy every single complete NES game 4Jays has, just for collecting sake. They have at least 30 there. |

I LOVE FO! The original release date was "supposed" (supposed by whom is the question - not by Treasure, evidently) to be about a month ago. Well, that time has come and gone, and no Ikaruga.. the place I preordered it from (they didn't charge me anything - I would only be charged in case it shipped) said that the game was not released. There hasn't been any word since then, and I had forgotten about it. A few days after the release was announced, rumors surfaced that it might have been an april fool's day joke, but confirming that was next to impossible, since the whole escapade took place in Japan. I haven't bought any games in a while. When I visited FO when she lived in New Jersey, I bought the boxed/complete NES games her Funco had for collector's sake, if they seemed like they'd be even half-way decent, but they only had a few. Nevertheless, I got Swords and Serpents, and a few others (Dash Galaxy, I think, for another). I LOOOOOOVE Flying Omelette!!

I LOVE FO!
And, oh, yeah, Zanac and Thunder Force V. Well, i try not to get people's hopes up too high for games, and while I could imagine some things some people might not be wild about about those games (for example, on normal - and maybe even hard - difficulty of Thunder Force V, most of the challenge is compressed into the final boss fight), I must say I liked them both.

I LOVE FO! Actually, now I've heard that it HAS been confirmed, for Dreamcast. And the confirmations seem like they're coming from more sources than the original rumors. I LOOOOOOVE Flying Omelette!!
