I'm Becoming Dissillusioned with Console Gaming

I've heard from Tweeter911 that Wrestlemania X8 wasn't very good (I think the people at Gamefaqs liked it... but what don't they like?)

Anyway, FO has a Game Cube here, with Rogue Leader and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Right now it's packed up in the closet. I'm not saying it's a bad system, or I won't like those games - I just have plenty else to keep me busy right now. I'm sure some time I'll have to pull Rogue Leader out and see just how good it is. Right now, I've been replaying the Gargoyle's Quest games, and have also been playing Zanac. I also was replaying Final Fantasy 1. (FO's been playing Magi Nation and thinks it sucks. At this point, I don't feel like playing any game I'm not enjoying) And after that? Well, I added up FO's games, and it turns out she has over one-thousand two-hundred games. And then I have a few games that she doesn't have. Even if we never bought another game, those games could probably keep us busy till the end of time.

So, no matter what, I'm feeling optomistic. Maybe in a few months the current gaming scene will hit me. Anyway, some time I would like to play Devil May Cry on PS2. So, that's something to look forward to. I have no interest in the X-Box.

As for Game Boy Advance, FO has one of those, too, and we really haven't done much with that, either. Sometime, I'll try to finish Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. So far, she's only finished Super Mario Advance.

I haven't played much Smash Bros. Melee, but it seems like even a lot of people who didn't like the original like that one.

Anyway, I finally decided to take a stab at these new next generation consoles. I had no interest in X-Box, so I got a GameCube since it was cheaper than PS2 and would have more of the THQ wrestling games I loved so much on N64. In other words, the recently released WWE (that name change sucks on so many levels) Wrestlemania X8 was a major factor in my choice of the Cube. Admittedly, I only have three games for the system so far (X8, Smash Bros. Melee, and NFL QB Club 2002), but I am underwhelmed. Smash Bros. is OK, but it's just a retread of the original, which I wasn't overly fond of in the first place. QB Club is an OK football game, but the QB challenge part of it is aweful. After having lofty expectations for X8, I found it to be inferior to the last WWF game on N64 (No Mercy) in almost every aspect. I have been playing console games since Atari 2600, and I have to say that in all that time, this is the first time that I've had absolutley no excitement about console gaming. I just find that odd since I'm still very excited about GBA and its growing library of interesting games. As for my gripes with the current consoles, I recently came across one GC game that excites me. Eternal Darkness has been excellent so far. I'm still enjoying console gaming... though the only modern system I have now is the PS2. I only have 7 games for it now, but I've enjoyed all but one quite a lot. There are also several other titles that look very promising, including Devil May Cry which Crawl mentioned. The idea of constantly having to upgrade your system to play the newest games is a pain. Mind if I ask what 7 games you have? I wondered if I should have imported Guilty Gear X. ::shrug:: I never bothered with Guilty Gear for PSX because I read a review that mentioned the game had a game-ruining technique, which would allow a character to instantly kill another, which meant that fights often came down to who could do that first. CB007 Registered User (7/24/02 4:16 pm) Reply	Re: I LOVE FO! Yeah, that technique exists. The AI never tried to use it on me, but maybe it's because I didn't try the higher difficulty settings. Depending on the character, the instant kill moves are quite easy to perform, though it is possible to miss or whatever. CB007's Videogame Forums The Game Review Archive

Liontamer The Game Jerichoholic Ninja (7/29/02 12:14 am) Reply	Re: I LOVE FO! I almost hated X8 it was so bad. I find that it is inferior to the last WWF N64 game (No Mercy) in almost every way. The controls aren't nearly as good. Whereas I could execute tons of moves easily in No Mercy, I can now only achieve 3 or 4 moves with regularity. It doesn't have nearly the selection of wrestlers as the last one. For some reason, reviews commend the create-a-wrestler feature, but I find it to be one of the worst CAWs ever in a wrestling game. I can't even recreate wrestlers that I made in the N64 games. The lack of a career/season mode is unforgivable and turns the game into just a bunch of random, uneven matches. Matches don't have that TV feel anymore since it's now possible to win a ladder match in just seconds instead of having to wear out your opponent and gain an advantage. The nice graphics are about the only improvement, and they are not as good as the printed ads would lead you to believe. That said, I live the game to some extent since it's the only way to get my Hurricane fix regularly. The AI can be extremely aggressive also. There are no real 3 way matches....they all become handicap matches quickly....and the game has several other flaws, such as fighting Test and Big Show when going for the Cruiserweight title..... O_o' Oh God....why can't Toys R Us refund opened items..... >_< Oh, and I can't recreate CAWs from any other game...its so limited and sad.... ;_; I doubt they will ever make a true sequal to No Mercy.... Too bad, I miss that gameplay and that shop thing which added some good replay value. ..... Just typing about this game makes me ill.....ugh. Kick the hyraxx. Old Navy owns you. I don't mean the clothing store, either!
