In Reference to the Code Armored Units
It started as a concept one night, when I played Cuprum back in Beta. I mentioned it in the ST channel and offered the idea to anyone who wanted it- the core concept, that is. TG and others encouraged me to go with it, and after some thinking, I started building the Project Red Spear concept.
So came Code Fenris to be. A dedicated soldier who ends up testing a prototype. A man of ideals.. and, as some have already seen, driving an armor with a mind all its own- and not particularly aligned with Easy's nature. It's important to note that Easy always refers to the armor as something he drives, like a tank, and is quick to point out he isn't Fenris- he's Easy, Fenris is the name of a piece of equipment. In the Armed Forces, it's common to name your equipment and often paint it on, a tradition the Red Spear techs followed when dealing with their babies. Here's something else interesting to note. In the Air Force, the pilot always flies the same aircraft- but the aircraft belongs to the crew chief for that plane, and woe to the flyboy who forgets that.
I find it very flattering that people are begining to play the Project Red Spear armors. I think it's a very interesting roleplay model, and glad folks are liking it. I was surprised when my rl brother decided to play one, more surprised as Pebble, and Whale picked up on it as well. I have been shaping the concept in my own mind, there's things I haven't written down, that I wanted to emerge during RP.. but now, perhaps I should mention these.
The armors are the product of a project which is integrating human and rikti technology. The suits have an AI, and the AI is rikti-programming. The rikti AI is intrusive, and since the suit includes neural input (implants on the drivers/pilots facilitate hookup) it has a pathway to take over the whole human/armor combination. This is the root of the Code armor roleplay- the suits are an evil tool, and bending them to good use becomes more of a struggle as time goes on. At first no one knew this would happen- but research on Phoenix and telemetry told the story. General Irons doesn't care- any means to an end, and he's willing to expend the drivers to do what he feels he must do, to save humanity.
Unfortunately, there is another problem. The neural implants are also rikti technology. Human bodies reject them, and in order for them to function the project had to design nanobots to first destroy the human antibodies, then take over that duty. But nanotech is limited and these nanobots are destroyed over a 48 hour period, so it is necesary for the driver/pilot to don the suit again, and get fresh nanobots.
As time goes on, the suit becomes more and more intrusive and the fight becomes a very real one. The courage, strength, willpower of the men and women who drive these units comes to the fore. Someone once defined courage as having no fear. Someone else, wiser, defined courage as doing what you must do, even when you're afraid. But all of these are wrong.
Ask someone who has given all in war, and you get the real answer. Because these folks know the nightmares that come from a life in combat, the pains, regrets, damage to one's own love that come from the duty of killing your fellow men. And, they stand, day and day out- and in the end, becoming either partially unbalanced or driven inwards to choke what they have done. And there is the true definition of courage.
To know what it will cost you to do your duty... to know ahead of time the pains, the nightmares, the living dreams. And to stand up, and go each day to do your duty. Or to put on the suit that is slowly killing you, and trying to take over your mind.
There is a limited number of units. A-G, to be exact, plus P. My son created P (Phoenix) one day.. my brother plays G (Gorgon). Tamji is playing C (Cerberus) and Whale is now playing A (Anubis). I play F (Fenris). That leaves B, D, E if anyone wishes to play with the concept, with my blessing.
The code names are from mythology, of course. The press ate it up. So far I've been using monsters, something the very astute Tamji picked up on- Whale picked a diety, the first one so far. I admit I myself am hard pressed to find monsters or creatures for each letter, but try if you can.
The drivers are all military. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines. They all have ranks, with the Army boys being non-coms, and all the rest being officers. The armors stay at a base when we're not wearing them, which is why you'll find Easy sometimes, or Antonio, walking around.
There is no "right" thing. I make a lot of it up as I go, because I have to. I draw on my own military experience to do so. The best we can do is pay attention to each other's RP and play off it, to unitfy the concept.
Re: In Reference to the Code Armored Units
Hi Fenris, I'd like to request your permission for the usage of the Code B unit. His build will be either claws or spines, details still under development...
Re: In Reference to the Code Armored Units
Thank you for the interest and for asking... I said this only in supergroup chat and forgot to add it here.
While I initiated this concept, I don't feel I "own" it anymore than any of you "owns" a roleplay theme we play a night or so. I started it...
The fact you're a member of Project Rebirth means you're a roleplayer, and probably a very good one. I trust anyone in this superteam to take over a portion of this roleplay and mold it, add to it, make it richer. It belongs to all of us. Stay true to what others before you have done, and have fun with it.
Easy, driving Code Fenris

Code Armored Unit
I've got dibs on "E"! Hmm....now to find a name...heh!
Re: Code Armored Unit
Ah, and we're all out of Code armors... which is fine, I've got my hands full with Thundergirl, Thunder-Girl and, should I find an excuse to break her out again, Nebula.
If we expand the concept at any point, however, I've got a placeholder for City of Villain - an individual who becomes completely subsumed in a Code suit and essentially becomes a Rikti agent. I hadn't seen the naming convention, so I'd been leaning toward Code Warlock or Code Ouroboros.
Ahh, well. Did I mention I REALLY have my hands full?

Re: In Reference to the Code Armored Units
Hmm... I've just re-read the backstory of Code Fenris, and man am I glad that there aren't too many monster names that starts with B!! I must've forgotten that Code B was mentioned in there when I decided to use it, and almost ended up with Bahamut or Behemoth... Then decided Basilisk would fit the scrapper background better and ended up with it... Whew, close call.
I was poking around to find fitting names and came across a few decent ones, if Project Red Spear wants to keep it strictly to mythical monster names (and not too late for a quick switch... but looks like Fenris is cool with the idea either way):
Ammut - Eater of Hearts, The Devourer. Egyptian mythology where Anubis brings damned souls to be devoured by Ammut.
Argus - Monster with hundred eyes; slain by Hermes; his eyes placed by Hera into peacock's tail.
Dryad - Wood nymphs.
Echidna - this monster was half beautiful woman and half deadly serpent; she was the mother of many mythical monsters
Erebus - Spirit of darkness, son of Chaos.
Ammut, Dryad, and Echidna are all female creatures, hence I skipped them myself... Hope that helps a little with the Code E for you, BA.

Anubis
The reason I chose Anubis was 2 fold. Forst the obvious reason...its semi mythical
Secondly is the pilot. Jason chambers is actualy just a brain in a jar. He was testing new grav lift technology when a horrid accident occured. His body imploded only leaving his cranium.
These chose Anubis the eqyption lord of the dead/underworld as the suit name because for all intents and purposes....he is dead
Re: Code Unit Poll
went back to this post to get some info and ran into your question, sorry I missed it the first time.
The units are coded for individuality. Could have been model 1, 2, 3, or I, II, III but I opted for letters - no particular reason, I suppose. Chance.
A, B, C, D, E, F, G and P, and now expanded to any letter of the alphabet since more folks expressed interest and seems ok with the membership as a whole. The techs who work on them named them fully, as will military people the world over, but as an excercise of intellect they tried to match Letter, Suit Ability and Mythology to each name.
This is pretty true to life. I spent some time in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, where Ordinance had some of the finest technical schools in the Army. I lived with many of the techs that were responsible for the then fledgling XM1 project, which became the Army's new main battle tank: The M1 Abrams. At that time there were two sets of prototypes, the Turbine powered ones and the Diesel powered ones, and they were all lovingly named and stensiled accordingly.
