In reference to the Code armored units
It started as a concept one night, when I played Cuprum back in Beta. I mentioned it in the ST channel and offered the idea to anyone who wanted it- the core concept, that is. TG and others encouraged me to go with it, and after some thinking, I started building the Project Red Spear concept.

So came Code Fenris to be. A dedicated soldier who ends up testing a prototype. A man of ideals.. and, as some have already seen, driving an armor with a mind all its own- and not particularly aligned with Easy's nature. It's important to note that Easy always refers to the armor as something he drives, like a tank, and is quick to point out he isn't Fenris- he's Easy, Fenris is the name of a piece of equipment. In the Armed Forces, it's common to name your equipment and often paint it on, a tradition the Red Spear techs followed when dealing with their babies. Here's something else interesting to note. In the Air Force, the pilot always flies the same aircraft- but the aircraft belongs to the crew chief for that plane, and woe to the flyboy who forgets that.

I find it very flattering that people are begining to play the Project Red Spear armors. I think it's a very interesting roleplay model, and glad folks are liking it. I was surprised when my rl brother decided to play one, more surprised as Pebble, and Whale picked up on it as well. I have been shaping the concept in my own mind, there's things I haven't written down, that I wanted to emerge during RP.. but now, perhaps I should mention these.

The armors are the product of a project which is integrating human and rikti technology. The suits have an AI, and the AI is rikti-programming. The rikti AI is intrusive, and since the suit includes neural input (implants on the drivers/pilots facilitate hookup) it has a pathway to take over the whole human/armor combination. This is the root of the Code armor roleplay- the suits are an evil tool, and bending them to good use becomes more of a struggle as time goes on. At first no one knew this would happen- but research on Phoenix and telemetry told the story. General Irons doesn't care- any means to an end, and he's willing to expend the drivers to do what he feels he must do, to save humanity.

Unfortunately, there is another problem. The neural implants are also rikti technology. Human bodies reject them, and in order for them to function the project had to design nanobots to first destroy the human antibodies, then take over that duty. But nanotech is limited and these nanobots are destroyed over a 48 hour period, so it is necesary for the driver/pilot to don the suit again, and get fresh nanobots.

As time goes on, the suit becomes more and more intrusive and the fight becomes a very real one. The courage, strength, willpower of the men and women who drive these units comes to the fore. Someone once defined courage as having no fear. Someone else, wiser, defined courage as doing what you must do, even when you're afraid. But all of these are wrong.

Ask someone who has given all in war, and you get the real answer. Because these folks know the nightmares that come from a life in combat, the pains, regrets, damage to one's own love that come from the duty of killing your fellow men. And, they stand, day and day out- and in the end, becoming either partially unbalanced or driven inwards to choke what they have done. And there is the true definition of courage.

To know what it will cost you to do your duty... to know ahead of time the pains, the nightmares, the living dreams. And to stand up, and go each day to do your duty. Or to put on the suit that is slowly killing you, and trying to take over your mind.

Easy, driving Code Fenris
