Kingdom Come I don't normally read comics or anything, but I was recently in a Barnes and Nobles and spotted the graphic novelization of the DC Kingdom Come series, which I knew nothing about. It was fantastic! I was wondering if you had read it. If you had, could you give me some information, or some discussion, if not you should look it up. |

Re: Kingdom Come
I loved Kingdom Come when it came out in comic format, but I haven't had the cance to read the novel (I have a huge stack of books waiting to be read). I'll be glad to discuss this further tomorrow or this weekend when I have more time, but I do have one comment that I must say now. Kingdom Come had the greatest fight/confrontation between Cpatain Marvel (SHAZAM!) and Superman ever written. I don't know if this came across as well in the novel though. I'd highly reccomend KC to anyone who wants a good comic story to read, and I'm pretty sure you could find a Trade Paperback (tpb) version of it (with some extra pages!!!) at just about any bookstore. I'll dicuss this further with you ASAP (hopefully tomorrow).

Re: Kingdom Come Oh yes, that fight came out. This was not a novelization, it was combining all the comics together into one novel, art and all. It was fantastic. In the addition, there was extra art, and a list and description of the fighters (the first three covers, where it showed the Justice League, the Prisoners of the Gulag, and Batman's group). Not that I understand all of the nuances that a comic fan would. Despite the desire to become a comic fan, I have not done so for three reasons: lack of funds, lack of a comic store around me, perferrably that I can walk to, and glut of @#%$ that is in the market. I am constantly reading my friend's Wizard, and I see a lot of crap out there. Not only is there a glut of crap, but simply a glut. There are too many comics out there. |

Re: Kingdom Come Oh, okay. You were reading the trade paperback, not the novelization. There is an actual novel; that's what confused me. I'm a tremendous comics fan myself, but I will agree with you about the large amount of crap out there. I mainly stick to DC these days and only buy the occassional Marvel comic. I love VALIANT/Acclaim, but they only put a book out once every 6 or 7 weeks. The really bad thing is that comic prices just wnet up again. When I started seriously collecting, they were $1 apiece. Now they're $2.25-$2.50 at the least. At this rate I'll have to get a job soon. -'Tamer |

Re: Kingdom Come A job! Horrors of horrors. I am trying to remain as lazy as possible too. I would enjoy reading certain comics, usually darker ones (I love the Spawn cartoon series on HBO), but I simply cannot do it, which is a shame, and I have not seen many good net comics (except Fluffy the Pumpkin). |

Re: Kingdom Come Like the dark stuff, huh? Well it just so happens that two of the comic stories that even non comic fans should read fit that bill. I highly recommend Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller and The Watchmen by Alan Moore. They are two of the best stories ever in comics and are suitably dark. You should be able to find either in trade paperback format at most bookstores or libraries. "Qui custodiest ipsos custodes?" = "Who watches the Watchmen?" -'Tamer |

Re: Kingdom Come The darkness come. I think I have heard a bit about the Watchmen. I will look into it, thanks. |
