MATH WIZARDS, COME HERE! The formula to figure out points!!
Jim Papadopoulos, PhD had an easy formula to figure POINTS in your head when you forget your slider. He was kind enough to share it with us. He goes on to say it is a simple formula for points that is easier than the one in the patent. He can do it in his head, and adds Anyone can do it in their head.... It has a number of advantages, including, fatcal and fiber% are given with no round off needed.
POINTS = (2*calories + calories from fat- 5*fiber%) / 100
Remember, to work with the 4 gram cap. This means you can only go up to 16% on the % daily value number.
Let me walk you through one, so we are clear... on this label,
The "calories" are 90, multiply this by two this is 180. Add in the "fat calories", on this label that is listed as calories from fat and is 30, so 180 plus 30 is 210.
Subtract 5 times the fiber percentage, on this label it is 12%, so 12 times 5 is 60 and 210 minus 60 is 150.
Finally divide your last number by 100 and you will get 1.5 POINT per serving of this item.
