 Magickally Nameing a Child
Ok, I talk to much... Esta has done a great article on magickal names so I wont go into that. However, magickaly naming a child can offer some added protection.
This is a basic outline of what to do...
1) Make a list of qualities your child posses which are positive, things you wish to reinforce.
2) decide which culture best fits your family (native american heritage, celtic heritage, greek ect.)
3) compile a list of possible names....just like you would for their mundane names.
4) Gets a little complicated here.... write each name on a small slip of paper....place them in a dish (I use my scrying dish) Meditate on each name.... Reach in and draw a name....set it aside without reading....repeat this 3 times but read the 3rd name....this is the name you have choosen for your child. (3 is a sacred number in my own religion, i understand other religions have sacred numbers...if your sacred # is like 7....then draw 7 names and the 7th is your childs name)
5) At this point u have 2 choices...keep the name in your heart and mind or wite it in rune, pictograph code ect. and add it to a protection amulet.
Actually gifting the child its name is a matter of choice. You can write a ritual and annouce to the gods the name of your child, simply kiss its sleeping forhead and gift the name to it, or whatever you are comfortable with. DO NOT share this name with anyone unless you trust them explicitly.....my childrens sperm donar does not even know their magickal names...noone living but me does.
