Music
Do you think there's any demand for some dux-music? :lol
I have had it muted previously, but today I spent a couple hours compiling a replacement music file. It sounds pretty cool actually because of my ultra-refined sense of taste :hat . Its right now for private use I guess, but just say if you want to make it available as a satellite to the mod.

Re: Music
I'm very tempted to do this... but i suspect the widespread success of such a thing would signal the end of vi. What do they say follows periods of cultural decadence:eek ? I guess I'll just keep it to myself m8s. Although the game does appear really cool with the music... I've got Brahms, Beethoven, Stravinsky, and Wagner, including the Flying Dutchman Overture for the 'win' theme :eek . Like Nietzche said of human gatherings: 'music present in these situations tends to reveal more than is otherwise apparent' ...or something to that effect :lol .

Re: Music
:lol
Well we could create a classical/room music selection (a bit chopped up I guess). No one has any rights on them anyway heh (unless you want to put VonKarajan orchestrations in the mix heh).

BTW here's a link to CTW's brand new music www.edgen.com/music/news.html

Re: Music
hm, maybe I was overreacting... I know also the NTW mod has custom music (though that might not be saying much on second thought :rollin )

Well its mostly prepared in that case:

Setup:
-Brahms, 3rd Movment, 1st Symphony
-Suggestions? Maybe Wagner, 2nd Movement, Symphony in C major
-Suggestions? Maybe Beethoven, 1st Movement, 3rd Symphony 'Eroica'

Mobilize:
-Beethoven, 2nd Movement, 7th Symphony
-Beethoven, 3rd Movement, 5th Symphony
-Brahms, Chor. II, German Requiem

Lose:
Either
-Stravinsky, Introduction, The Sacrifice, The Rite of Spring
or,
-Stravinsky, Serenata, Pulcinella Suite
Suggestions?

Win:
-Wagner, Overture, The Flying Dutchman

I decided that there would be only silence for 'battle' mode. Opinions?
I did have 3 selections for the 'Setup' phase yesterday, but they didn't work out well. For this I need songs that do not have to be anticipated by previous music but that also have an instantly palpable tension (that's why the 3rd movement of Brahms' 1st worked well, and why 1st movements I found to be generally out of place here), and are of a different tone than the 'Mobilize' music (which are generally 'marches' and/or second movements).

I also thought of leaving the 'frontend' music as it is since our mod does not require a separate install. That was one of my reservations, in fact, that we would be altering the music for the entire game (although its easy to switch back and forth). And btw I am open to suggestions for the 'Mobilize' phase also :rolleyes

Looking back, all my choices for 'setup' are pretty weak. I'll have to think about this some more. I've been going for, it seems, the 'big' heroic. I wonder if the scope of these songs is too much for mtw. Maybe something less grandiose and smaller in scope would be better... suggestions?:eek

Re: Music
Well I find quite fitting most of the suggestions, I'll have though to search the classical music cds i got here for Stravinksy as I don't recall his pieces.
I also don't know how the music allocation needs to be done, and how many tracks per phase are allowed.
Ofcourse we'll do some track editing, so we can use multiple parts of a single overture, eg. "The Flying Dutchman".
I'll try listening the tracks again with the corresponding phases in mind, and I'll be tell you more later on.

On a sidenote, what about non-euros...maybe we need quite a different style of music heh..maybe I got some byzantine hymns here, not hard to find any:p

Re: Music
3 files called Euro Tension 1,2,3
3 called Euro Mobilize 1,2,3
3 called Euro Battle 1,2,3
1 called Euro Win
1 Euro Loss

Then there is the 'frontend' file. Analogous Arab files. Viking files. Campaign files.

I can get my hands on some Islamic AND Indian music from a member of my family, strangely enough (no, we're not Muslim). The Indian music is a legitamate classical type and I'll have to see about the Islamic music. If nothing else we can use the same music as the Euros would have.

All the files btw have to be PCM WAV format. When converting files to PCM format especially, a 'high quality' output file is really necessary. To swap the music, a person would have to remove the 'music' file (in the sounds file) and replace it with our own identically titled file. It would contain our music entitled Euro Mobilize 1 etc, as well as the original compulsory files 'frontend' etc, and all of the original campaign music.

btw, all this means you have to add me to the mod credits :rollin :rollin :rollin

Send over over some mp3 samples :)
I think I could find Mehter music (ottoman military band music) but it falls a bit out of timeframe, not that Wagner was contemporary to Barbarossa heh

Re: Re
well i personally hate having music on when playing because it makes me lazy and power hungry (like a talentless Napoleon i guess), but I've got everything arranged. I have plenty of Egyptian folk music and I've figured out the Euro dillemma... that is if i have 'big' music for mobilize I must have 'little' music for setup otherwise I am basically mocking a symphony. With having 'little' then 'big' I will be remaining respectful and rather translucent in the arrangement.

Re: Re
I've spent some time and now have both lists almost finalized. I'll put up a list now and change it as I proceed.

Frontend:
-Wagner, Prelude Act I, Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg

Euro Tension:
-Holst, Saturn the Bringer of Old Age, The Planets
-Holst, Neptune the Mystic, The Planets
-Liszt, Faust, Eine Faust-Symphonie (first 2:00)

Euro Mobilize:
-Beethoven, 2nd Movement, 7th Symphony
-Beethoven, 3rd Movement, 5th Symphony
-Brahms, Chor. II, German Requiem

Euro Lose:
-Stravinsky, Introduction, The Sacrifice, The Rite of Spring

Euro Win:
-Beethoven, 2nd Movement, 9th Symphony

It'll be pointless for me to list the Egyptian Folk music titles :D

Size: ~250 MB compressed

---Finished---

Re: Re
the music is stored in the sounds/music folder. If do not want to overwrite the originals then remove them.

**Remember: Remove all VIKING music files from music folder, otherwise they will interfere with the intended operation of the new music files.**

**Also, if you want to retain the spirit of the score, then I'd suggest removing all of the 'Battle' music files... unless you like cheesy music from CA

Well, I don't think many people can write music with a medieval -kind of- or generally epic (note: not epic metal hehe) theme for a game. And for different cultures on top of that:D
But if he could do such things...8o

We could try a sample tho, it's even possible to have multiple music packs in the end heh

MUSIC
Great the plan to add music related to "medieval" themes. Perhaps for the sad "loose" situation we could add "O lacrimosa" from Mozart Requiem.

For more "medieval" sound I can suggest "Angelo Branduardi" musicS. He is an italian musician that took real medieval sound "translating" them in a more modern music way. Some titles:

STATE BUONI SE POTETE
BALLO IN FA DIESIS MINORE
ALLA FIERA DELL'EST

Tks all and ciao.:rollin :rollin

Re: MUSIC
Hey Max:D

Yes, I've heard "O lacrimosa", it's a fitting track:)
I'm familiar with the "Angelo Branduandi" as name, ut I don't think I've ever heard any of his tracks. Will give it a try;)

BTW, we'll upload the current music pack when Faust returns, so that we can have the track names and a guide on how to convert MP3s to Wav files...

Re: MUSIC
well this subject is getting kinda mixed up!!!

i would like to say "first" that VERY well done to alex\buu for such brilliant work!! i could never ever mange such a task.
BUT as i did point out a few months ago!!! is there any point?

alex when i asked you a few months ago about graphics, i was meaning about rewriting the game, rather then just making another mode!! you and buu's mode is brilliant BUT i think its kinda short sighted, meaning you should have aimed NOT for a mode BUT a expansion.

now i know your going to say something smart in re-turn THATS if you think this idea is worth the reply, BUT i believe no matter how things have turnt out in the past, and no matter how much you's all love me and I love you's ;) hehe, 1 thing i do know : is theres a good team here!!!
if you think you can do a expansion with the right help, then i believe its possible!!!
the only thing i see stopping us!!! is ourselfs
