My Harpy Eagle Dream: Not really an interp This is LONG
Ok, I guess i really dont need an interpretation on this one. And honestly up until a few weeks ago I had never heard of a Harpy Eagle....Now she is in my dreams and thoughts constantly. So I suppose its time to talk it out and mayhap get some feed back *Annoyed sigh*
Now, a little background information. My totem is dolphin. Pretty much always has been. But for me to be dreaming of Harpy, and to feel Dolphin conspicuously absent has me annoyed and a bit worried. And a little FYI: I am so NOT like a raptor. I dont understand why Harpy has come to me...yeah I can be strong and fight necessary battles, I simply consider them "Sharks in the pod" and deal with them as such. But people lets face it, Im really just a glorified bunny! I know this! I accepted along time ago that I would never be intimidating! My sense of humor has always been my greatest strength and the only reason I have yet to commit suicide is 'cause life is just to damn fun at times!
All Right, until tonight the dreams followed along this line:
I am always following her, she soars over mountains and I scramble up them to meet her, she soars over seas, there I am paddleing like a fiend to keep up. I know she is leading me and I know I must follow, but eventually I get tired and sit and begin to cry. When I look up, there she is so large and strong, waiting for me. Its so weird because I get this FEELING that comes across... a feeling that says "Okay you had your little melt down, now what are you going to do, cause Im leaving" Almost like you wuld tell a 2 year old bye bye and walk away to get them to follow. When I am collected, she whistles at me and takes off....and again we are climbing swimming and running threw unknown terrain to a place I have never been but need to go. For the record...I have yet to reach it. I wake up feeling like i was a butt hair away and didnt make it.
NOW!
Tonights dream really bugs me. Again I am following her, yet this time when I get frustrated and upset, rather then follow her, I lay down on my back and close my eyes. I still remeber feeling this place isnt that bad....not perfect but hey i could stay here. Then I feel an enormous weight on my chest, I can barely breath and I open my eyes. Its Harpy eagle and she is PISSED! She screams in my face and pecks out my eyes...but im not in pain and I can still see. I look at her and (yes like a child caught being bad) say "What!!" And am rewarded with a hard peck on the forhead then, I swear to you on my honor (Which is a big issue with me) That I woke up with an angry eagle's cry and the words "Would you just LOOK!!!" in my ears. I was bolt upright it the bed and rubbing a sore spot on my forehead... right in the center.
NOW NOW NOW! Heres the kicker and whats scaring the holy shitaki mushrooms right out of me...
I need to DO something. I know it, and I know something major is on the horizon. I can feel it, taste it and smell it but I cant SEE it. I dont know what IT is but its something only I can do, and Im scared wittless! What if I miss it? What if Im not looking when I need to be and a snowball starts the avalanche I could have prevented?
I pretty much figure this was the eye poking bit... but I AM looking.... why did she feel it so necessary to literally chase me from the astral? I know she hasnt given up nor left...I can sense her with me...I know shes there.
The kicker? I have never ever ever seen a living Harpy eagle....photos only...and I can tell you what they smell like and $50 says im right. That is how real this spirit is to me. Dolphin I could sense and even hear to a point...But harpy is so so much more then that... Almost like a limb I have not yet connected if that makes any sense.
*Another annoyed Sigh* I am such a crazy Bitch.... I know.

Wow.....some powerful imagery...I can see how real it is to you....It's odd that my mother has a similar totem now...rather than leading her anywhere it just came and sat heavily on her shoulders....
I don't have any insights....just thought to share....

I dont think you're crazy at all,Gaia.She is definitely trying to show you something,and it is more than likely something so glaringly obvious that you're blinded to it.I do believe that when the time is right,you will see what it is you are supposed to see.
Harpy Eagle will make sure of it.She wants you to see it now,but,it's a firm belief of mine that things happen when they are supposed to.You just have an impatient totem animal.
Also,just because she has shown up,dont think that dolphn has disappeared.Sometimes our "main" totem animals will take a backseat,so to speak,to another,when there's a message to get across that a different animal is better at dealing with.
i would think that Harpy Eagles arent much different than other eagles,as far as the meaning behind their appearance.Harpys are larger,and present a more intimidating picture,which,once again,enforces my belief that the message is one of importance.Someone wants to make sure you pay attention.
It's just my two cents worth,and I dont know a whole lot about totem animals,but everything I did say,just flowed,as if it were supposed to.I hope it was of some help to you.
The only bit of advice I can offer is next time you go to sleep,before you doze off,ask harpy to please come to you,and explain what the hell is so important.Let her know you just arent getting it,and you know you need to,or she wouldn't be so adamant about it.Maybe she'll listen,and explain.

Well, what I have learned so far:
1) Harpy mates for life
2) 2 or 3 eggs are lain in a clutch but only one survives. Harpy's young stays in the nest longer then most other raptors, so it us not uncommon to see both a juvinile and a hatchling siblings in the same nest.
3) Harpys are arguably the strongest eagles in the world, able to easily snack a 1lb lemur from a vine and carry it to its nest.
4) The females are phenominally large, a female harpy eagles talon can be as big as a human males fist.
5) Hunting and habitat depletion make Harpy Eagle high among the most endangered species of bird. Also, Harpy Eagle does NOT do well in captivity, much like its other eagle cousins. few or no harpy eagles are currently raised and contained in captivity.
6 ) They Rear their young in the same nest... survival once a nest has been destroyed is fairly small.
NOW what I have learned so far on general eagle totems:
1) for ages eagles have been used to either depict God/desses or they are reputed to take eagle form.
2) virtually every indegenious culture has eagle placed very in sacredness (probably not the term im aiming for but my brains a bit numb cause a certain bird wouldnt let me sleep *taps foot*)
3) Shaman historically call upon eagle to aide in spiritual correspondance and eagle is generally the spirit which chooses Shaman. (I found a tribe in the rain forests which holds harpy in high status, the shaman of this tribe, male or female, is considered the child of harpy, a child is chosen by harpy once in a generation, generally when the current shaman is very old)
4) Eagle is the symbol of strength
5) eagle is the symbol of community unity
6 ) Eagles are messengers from heaven
and are the embodiment of the spirit of the sun.
7) Those with an Eagle totem need to have
an involvement with creation;
a willingness to experience extremes;
a willingness to use your ability
even if it means getting "scorched" a little as you
fly high;
a willingness to seek out your true emotions.
 Eagle thrives best in an environment of quiet isolation. Eagle people should be certain to make space in their lives for alone-time.
Ok, now upon finding this stuff out, I kind of begin to understand WHY harpy eagle in particular. I also undertsand a little better her persistance and impatience. I am going to dry up an outline and see where this fits into my own life and what it is I am lacking in my own life that I can learn from her ths helping me "complete the lesson" I am sure is there.
Shad: I know dolphin is still with me... I guess I should have said out of reach rather then absent.

Gaia, you crack me up!  You need to stop worrying that you'll miss something! This is why Eagle is with you at this time. They say whatever thought, desire or prayer you've got at the time you see eagle, he'll carry it direct to the Creator. I feel eagle will be the sign for "what" you don't want to miss. One day somewhere, eagle will show while you're doing something. You'll think.. "ohhhh.. that's it!"
Stop stressin' Gaia and enjoy eagles company.

Ok, I got to the end and it wasnt a where it was a who and now i undersatand my panic to get there. I hope u understand if i dont go into alot of detail. And it was so worth the wait!
