My friend Kathy
Gang,

My friend is going thru a very rough time in her marriage. After years of prayer she gave her life to the Lord a few years ago, but is still quite new in following God's will. Recently she agreed to go through "Operation Timothy" with me on a monthly basis. (It's a four part discipleship program created by Christian Business Men's Committee -- CBMC.) We start on Monday, November 10th.

Last night she called me at 12:30 am because she had such a rough day with her husband. They have two beautiful children 5 & 3 years old. The arguments and frustration between the two of them is escalating. Personally, I've known Kathy for 25 years and I've never had a fight with her. Seeing the lack of kindness, love and support Mike has for her and how he breaks her down emotionally tears at my heart. She is a broken woman and fears for the future when her children are grown. Her comment to me was, "What will I have when my children leave? I don't even like my husband anymore." She is coming over to my house tonight and we're going to talk and pray about it. Also, just to give her some time alone to rest and think.

Please pray:
1 - Kathy gain emotional stability and strength in the Lord to continue to be a good wife and mother.
2 -The time she has to sleep be un-interrupted. (She is a nurse who works crazy hours.)
3 - Mike find peace about his life and come to realize his need for the Lord
4 - Mike agrees to go back to the marriage counselor and accept his part in the breakdown of their marriage
5 - The children Alexandra and Zachary be insulated from the tension, anger and sadness surrounding their family.
6 - That the Lord gives me wisdom beyond my understanding to help Kathy and her family
7 - The Holy Spirit gives me the words which need to be said

Sorry! That seems like a lot! Thank you for your prayer support!

Re: My friend Kathy
I'll pray.

And I know I've been afraid of
Every little thing
But today I join creation
when I raise my head and sing
She's opend my eyes, and now I'm where I belong, joined in a song
You're truly amazing ...

Re: My friend Kathy
I can certainly relate, too.

I could sit here and write a ton of "advice" based on what I've gone through, but I know that every situation is different and what worked/didn't work for me might have absolutely no relevance for you or for Kathy.

I will pray for all involved--especially for her, because she certainly has a tough road in front of her and she's bearing a burden alone that's hard enough when both spouses are totally involved in the marriage/family.

And I'll pray for you as you stand beside her--I know so many of my friends had no words of "advice" for me, so they basically avoided contact with me for a long time...and that hurt me more than anything else. I didn't care if they had any words of "wisdom" for me...it was enough that they were there. Kathy is blessed to have a friend like you who cares so much about her and her marriage/family.

Amen, Dena....
I guess I just thought it was friends picking sides, but maybe they just don't know what to say....

But it's nice to be able to use what we go thru to shed some light for someone else. Makes all that pain seem alot less pointless.

(I'm stopping now)

Re: My friend Kathy
I know I'm kind of straying from the topic, but this has brought back a lot of memories for me...and maybe it WILL help someone in a similar situation. I had a couple of people from my church who, even though they didn't know what to say, supported me more than they will ever know.

One was an older man whom I don't really even know very well, but who had gone through a divorce several years ago--he came up to me one morning at church, looked at me like he was going to say something, then stopped and just reached out and squeezed my arm...that action said more than any words could have. The other person was an acquaintance of ours who is very reserved and shy and rarely speaks up at all in a social situation...during our "meet and greet" time one Sunday morning, he came up to me with tears in his eyes, gave me a huge hug and told me that he loved me.

Sometimes that's all we need, isn't it? We just need someone to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus...or WE need to be that to someone else, and just allow His comfort to flow through us.

Sorry...I'm rambling. I should do that somewhere else besides the prayer forum.

I'm made with my Father's hands,
I'm made with His breath of life.
I'm fearfully, wonderfully made.

Re: My friend Kathy
Lord Father,
I pray tonight for Kathy and Mike, Zachary and Alexandra. They are in need of Your guidance. Help them find the will of Your way Lord and give them the strength to follow it. Soften the hardened hearts to Your love and grant them patience and wisdom to weather this storm. Keep the Hands of Your Spirit on them and bring them all closer to You. When we have You Lord Jesus, we have everything and all that we need. In Your grace and Mercy, hear these prayers, Amen.

Update on Kathy!
I realized I haven't updated you all on my dear friend.

Things still are difficult for her, as I'm sure you know these things take time. And, as always, God's timing CERTAINLY isn't our timing. But His plans are for the best.

We met for our first Operation Timothy discussion in November. The kids played in my living room watching Finding Nemo and the Lion King. We met in the kitchen and started with page one. Kathy had told me she felt 'stupid' compared to me about the Bible since she had never read it and didn't really attend church. I explained the real depth to the Bible. The hidden nature of spiritual things and how no matter how long or how often we read His word we still find buried truths newly revealed to teach, guide and help us. How I have been a christian since the age of five (when we met in kindergarten!) and I still have "Ah HA!" moments when reading scripture. The Holy Spirit really helped me that night. Gave me the words to say to calm her fears and encourage her ongoing discovery of God's will, God's word and God's ways.

One of the questions in the book asks if you were God, what message would you have for humanity. She said, "I have no idea." I asked her, "If you were God, what message would you have for your children?" Immediately she said, "I would tell them I love them. I would do anything for them. I want the best for them and I would die for them." I smiled and said, "That's how God feels about each of us. That's why we call Him our "Heavenly Father"." Her eyes brightened and she said, "Wow. I never thought of it that way. Why didn't I realize that?" She went from telling me she just didn't "get" some of the passages we read, to using the principles from the first passages we had read to answer some later questions.

We haven't set a date for our second meeting, but she's called and sent me a little note telling me how excited she was about continuing to learn more.

I am so thankful to my Father for giving me the opportunity to help my spiritual sister learn the first steps in her lifelong dance with the Lord.

Thank you for your continued prayers. This process has only begun!!

Becky

Re: Update on Kathy!
Becky, that is so awesome, that your friend has someone like you to help her thru...

I've had alot of help of my own lately, but it's the people who will stick with you over the long haul who make the most impact. I hope you can get together again, soon...

And thanks for the update....
