NASCAR Drivers on Race Karts
Seeing as the Daytona 500 was just one week ago, this is pretty timely.
 Whether you like racing, NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt (father or son), 1/6th-scale vehicles and R/C toys, or all of the above, then boy, howdy, have I found something for you!
I spotted this at the Walmart at Westheimer and Dunvale yesterday. A 1/6th-scale NASCAR driver with his R/C Race Kart in the same colors as his NASCAR wheels!
Taiyo Edge Ltd. has issued this Dale Earnhardt figure and race kart. The frequency is 27mghz. Taiyo also produces Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in his own colors and using 49mghz so that two karts can race at the same time. Other drivers are also available, and were on the Walmart shelves in abundance (at least 9).
The figure is as articulate as he needs to be to sit in the kart, which means that his legs will move forward and backward and bend at the knees only, his head will turn but not go up and down, and the arms are about as articulate as the first 21st Century figures. The legs are incomplete, just the outside half (imagine tracing a line down the center crease in a pair of trousers; everything inboard from the crease is gone). The body is very lightweight, which of course, improves the kart's speed.
The racing coveralls velcro up the back. The racing helmet does fit on a G.I. Joe. Any Dragon figure should be light enough to work on the kart, and articulate enough to squeeze into the coveralls.
The kart is very fast and will turn on a dime. It uses six standard AA batteries. If the price of the Stuart or the H2 Hummer have kept you out of 1/6th R/C vehicles, then this may be the one for you: the price is $44.88 plus tax.
I think we have a new category for our R/C Vehicle Rodeo: NASCAR Race Karts. I can just see these on a road course now!
