New Bulgarian IDs to Resemble the Da Vinci Code
The new identity documents of the Bulgarian citizens will have an inbuilt antenna and they will incorporate basic biometric information about the document holder
It turns out that Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code is a piece of cake to decipher, if compared to the new biometrically-enhanced IDs of the Bulgarian citizens. The Mount of Shipka, the building of the National Assembly and the world famous Rhyton will be only part of the national symbols that the Ministry of Interior Affairs will incorporate in our new identity documents as security images. These images will be 'visible' only to the special reader of the border police and customs officers.
A special microchip incorporated in the identity document will contain the biometrics of the document's holder. The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior will start issuing the new IDs at the end of the year. For the time being, a microchip will be only incorporated in the Bulgarians' travel passports and it will contain the holder's signature and photo. From 2009 on, the holder's iris and fingerprints will be also incorporated in the microchip. It is still not clear whether our new ID documents will contain information about the religion and the blood group of the holder, as the case is in Greece and some other EU member states.
In addition to biometrics, the ID microchip will also contain personal data about the document's holder - his name, middle name and surname, personal number and the date of birth, as well as the number of the identity document. In addition, a miniature antenna will be incorporated the new IDs. It will help the reader decipher the biometric data contained in the chip.
-------------------------------------------------------

What a huge effort just to take some money again from our pockets. I don't think there is any other country in the world that have changed whatever kind of document so often in recent years.

Wow, this is big news to me. Information about religion? What messed-up country would have that information?

why is the religion included there? :)

Romanians are proud to be Orthodox like their brothers Bulgarians and Greeks.

This is not something new though (except what religion a person may have... a very private issue?!).
Most of EU passports have already the biometric data (chip) attached in the machine readable page (and such is the case with the Swedish and other national Id cards since October 2005.

I hope it won't be Bulgaria and such lunatic ideas will be abandoned.

Let me laugh about that. In the age of hackers and ID theft we are creating new security issues. Of course in a couple of years somebody will crack the code of those detectors and can get everybody's info in a second. This one is supposedly one more step towards the total control over human beings - the one world gorvernment. Instead of implanting the chip in your brain they implant it in your ID. What is the difference?

Don't let the freedom be taken from you... Don't let be labeled with barcodes... Like a plain merchandise.

The question is still if that somebody has so many passports in hand to manipulate? Security details are very specific (and in plenty) in one passort. Nobody has made yet a perfect forgery of such a document. There's always something forgotten or just impossible to fix. Those who check suspected id-documents, can easily find out if the passport is real or not. There is much more I could say, but nope..|I

Yahac, I am sure you identify yourself by your fingerprints only.

What is cool about a passport with special chip on it that can reveal your info to evreybody who wants to access it. Well high tech stuff, bla bla. Who cares. You understand that you loose the control of things here right? If the guy is able to detect everything about you from a distance even without your permission is that realy something to die for? Who will protect your privacy? What about identity theft? You are not concened about all that?

Well, may be you are right the best is to go with the fingerprints. Even Bush implemented that on all visiting foreigners. Now they need your fingerprints for US visa...
