Noble Casualties
The heels of boots rang in the Hall as Indra Aleriandes made her way toward the Throne room of the Sun Palace. No one had been allowed in since the funeral of the King and his siblings a few months before. The mourning for all of them could be heard out in the streets for weeks afterward. Surprisingly Caladin had been well liked since he had been a very fair and beloved King for the short time he held the throne. Even his marriage to a Saldaean had been accepted. Indra had not been very keen on the marriage but Caladin had always been kind to her and she had wished him the best. The fact that Eldrie had been mourned as well had been a bit of a shock. He was the one who caused so much of the trouble in the world. Him and his light forsaken Asha’men of the Black Tower. But he had been royalty and like all royal families he was mourned for alongside his brother and sister.

As she stood in front of the closed doors she wondered how she would take what was hers. The only reason Indra had been allowed anywhere near was because of her blood ties to the Do'Eledrailon family. She was their first cousin and probably the most deserving of the throne. Other nobles had been approached and she now had six of them in her pocket, whether they wanted to support her or not. Promises and threats had been made and she only needed a few more. The battle for the Sun Throne had begun again but this time the House Aleriandes would be victorious.

She pushed open the doors and walked in. The first thing she saw was the gold gilded Sun throne. It was beautiful but then it had to be for a Cairhienin. A work of art really the Sun throne sat upon a raised dais shining in the afternoon sunlight. Her eyes had been so focused on it she had barely caught the movement to the right of her before it was too late. “ Halt! What are you doing in here Mina?” The short woman hurried over to her although her stride was not that of a personal maid. As she emerged from the shadows, her Saldaean features were unmistakable. The blonde girl was beautiful and it made her even more unconvincing as a maid.

Indra had found her months before skulking around the palace. The woman said she was related to Yasha but Indra had not believed her. When the woman begged to be of service Indra made her a mid. Then other things started to happen and Indra employed her as something more. Now the girl knew her value and sometimes it made Indra sick. “Well you still have not answered me!” “I apologize mistress but a letter has come from the House Trieliam. They will accept your promises for their pledge to back you for ascension of the Sun Throne.” Indra chuckled, “Excellent! You have done your job well Mina. Has the body been disposed of now?” A nodded from the woman made Indra want to clap her hands. Brenda Trieliam should have never crossed her and now her House was behind her completely.

Her eyes went back to the Sun Throne. Casualties of Nobles were not unheard of when there was a war of Ascension. She would be the victor of that she had no doubt.
