OOC It would be helpful if the Project decided on a way to handle OOC speach. It needs to be easy and functional, so as not to discourage OOC discussion, but easily recognizable as such. Here are the choices I am aware of:Show results
I'm not in the (( )) habit on the sg and team channels, but I added a /bind to make a black balloon local OOC.
I really wish the devs of this game had played on a MU* or two. It would be so much easier to have dual channels (IC and OOC). If need be, I'll make /binds for sg and team ((OOC)) talk.
Re: OOC
I'm highly in favor of only Local being IC/RP and every other channel being OOC. For one thing, it's immediately distinguishable. And it's also convenient. You can quickly switch between ICly analyzing the situation and bantering and OOCly saying things like: "Okay, QT, try and pull" or "Ack, these guys are all red to me...be careful guys."
Having to put a double parentheses (or even a single one) around everything you want to say OOCly is just a pain. It slows down quick typing and half the time I forget to do it until I've typed several words...then have to go back (or I forget what I'm supposed to be doing and don't close the parentheses). Even worse, as Ellis sort of mentions, is that it's impossible to set up a bind to just stick in the (()), because you can't put those ending characters into a bind.
If we decide we want to be able to have team channel IC (and I still vote that SG channel should always be OOC) then I would vote for sticking the OOC: in front of what you want to say. That's easily distinguishable and you can bind it.
Here are my two big additional thoughts on RP and channels:
1) If we're in public (ie, not in a door mission), I think we should always RP over Local. Mainly because it creates a cool scene for anyone who happens to wander by. Since we're on the RP Server, I think it'd be cool to show off some RP. Besides, I'm sick of seeing threads on the Official Boards claiming that they've never seen *any* RP on the Unofficial RP Server. Now, if we're in a mission....see below
2) Blueshift made the point last night that his big problem with doing IC only over Local is that since it has a limited range, people often run off and miss his witty banter. I can actually see his point quite well....it happened to me, sort of, a couple times in that 5th Column mission we did. I'd be in the middle of typing up some interesting response or whatnot and everyone would suddenly run ahead to fight more and miss everything I'd been working on. So, I can see the value of RPing over Team channel, if we all agree that's what we want to do. But, again, if we go this route, I'd vote for the OOC: preface instead of the awkward double parentheses.
IC OOC
I'm firmly opposed to rp being in local only. Ideally, yes, when we're standing around, sure. But I'm a huge fan of banter in the missions and I'd like to at least have the team channel open for that too. Super group I could see being totally out of character. As for using ((this)) or ooc: this, either one works for me.
Re: IC OOC
Yeah, but not always is it that obvious, Ellis.
For example, the other night I (playing Dr. Arkane) said over team: *blink* I didn't think you could talk, QT?
And then The Quiet Type responded to me, ICly, over local....when I'd meant my comment to be OOC...and yet it was taken as IC.
So, you know what....I do sort of agree with Blueshift.
So why don't we do this:
SG is always OOC unless two people specifically say they're doing IC over it or something.
Team and Local will both be IC, unless prefaced with "OOC:"
And if we're in public, and just standing around, let's try and do our RP on Local. Maybe even be considerate of everyone if we've just been standing around RPing and ask over team something like: "OOC: Ready to move on guys?"
That way no one's dialogue will get missed as someone decides to suddenly run off and kill something.
And since I've come to this conclusion, I'd like to change my vote.
I initially voted for IC in Local only. Take one off of that and put it into the "OOC first" option.
Re: IC OOC
I did a /bind so I can easily do OOC talk in team. But it's ((OOC ) and not my whole thing in parenthesis. I colored it white on black. Thundergirl said it's sufficient.
I did like Ellis and created binds for local and team chat that will preface what I say with ((OOC)). Is either this or bracketing the entire thing in (()) how we want to do it?
And is having a mix of the two, depending on what the person prefers, going to work for everyone?
Re: IC OOC
Honestly, I don't care what people do as long as it's clear that they're not in character. Beyond that, anything fine by me. If I knew how to bind I'd consider doing that, until then I'll stick with the parentheses.
IC OOC
I agree. The main point is to make sure that everyone knows when you are in character and when you are not. Black Atom does not say "howdy!", and I would imagine that in itself would be a dead giveaway that it was OOC. As long as it is clear, there shouldn't be a problem. Usually, wind up using whichever is being used by the majority of the group.
