Posting Guidelines
This is a new forum, and I may find it necessary to update these guidelines as the community evolves. For the beginning, however, the Rules and Regulations for posting at The Hogsmeade Pub are as follows:

1. There will be no profanity used in any posts on this forum. If Ron says it in one of the books, fine. Anything harsher than the Weasley repertoire of swear words is too harsh for The Pub.

2. There will be no discussion of politics or religion in any posts on this forum. There are MANY other fine places on the web to discuss these things. The Pub is for discussion of Harry Potter and civil social conversation among those who share an obsession with all things Potterish.

There is one exception to the “no religious discussion” rule. That is in the intelligent and critical examination of religious themes in the Harry Potter books. That sort of discourse is very welcome here, and as long as Pub patrons can keep the discussion focused on topic without straying into religious argument…it is heartily encouraged.

3. The Pub has been created to provide a home for book-lovers who never tire of discussing the Harry Potter series. If you venture into one of the forums, here, you must EXPECT that every post will have spoilers. If you have not completed the entire series, and you don’t want to have the ending ruined for you, then my admonition is that you stay away from the forums that pertain directly to any of the books you haven’t finished.

The EXCEPTIONS to this rule are the Hogsmeade Group Readings forum and the Muggle Matters forum. In each of these, patrons will be asked to mark their posts to indicate if there are spoilers within. Simply avoid these posts if you haven’t finished the book being discussed.

4. Book-specific forums are intended for discussion of a particular book and any others prior to it in the series. Please do NOT reference The Prisoner of Azkaban on the Chamber of Secrets forum or the Order of the Phoenix in the Goblet of Fire forum, etc. If you’re comparing book one to book three, post it in the book three forum…not the first. There are many who haven’t finished the entire series but still wish to join in discussion of the books they have finished without fear of having the plot spoiled for them.

5. The Group-Reading forum has its own set of guidelines. All Pub patrons are asked to familiarize themselves with those guidelines before joining in a sponsored group read.

6. The Pub respects individuality, but we don’t tolerate spam, and we strongly dislike huge, gaudy, blinking, or distracting personal signatures. Please keep your custom signature tasteful. The Pub does not allow signatures that contain spam. If you have a personal, non-commercial website that you want to share with the other patrons, then by all means include it in your signature. If you want to link to a personal commercial site (or to any other site whose main purpose is selling something) in your custom signature or on a forum in The Pub, you must get permission from the administrator to do so.

7. Finally (and this is where we get controversial), the forums administrator reserves the right to close or delete any topic thread or post, and to delete any patron membership if she feels it is necessary to do so. There is a code of conduct here and a tone of civil, intelligent discussion that we wish to preserve. Patrons or posts that violate the rules, stir up animosity, or threaten the peaceful tone of this forum will be dealt with by whatever method the administrator and/or board moderators feel is necessary.

There are hundreds of places online to read about and discuss Harry Potter. We think The Hogsmeade Pub could become one of the best of them. We heartily welcome any and all newcomers, and we look forward to knowing you all. Merrily met, you all are!
