Rainbows...
Rainbows sparkle from crystalline droplets, as they fall slowly toward the water. The river will carry them to the sea, and back to the earth from where they originally came eons ago, it seems. The droplets continue to fall from the eyes that are turned inward, seeing nothing of the river or the beauty of the land. These eyes are sad, heavy with misery and tears and pain. They carry frustration, anger, even rage; but mostly just the sadness.
The eyes believed once. They once believed in fairness, justice, and the fact that right was right. They once believed that good would always win. The eyes now shed tears of grief for their beliefs. The eyes once believed in magic too. Would they ever believe so again?
“The faith will bring it back,” whispered the soul that belonged to the eyes, “We have done this before, and the faith always brings the magic back..” The eyes considered this. They wandered farther inward, sharing with the soul the memories of past grief, past pain, and past dying of beliefs.. “Yes,” the eyes agreed, “the faith will bring the magic back eventually, but I cannot find where the faith has gone either.”
“Ah….” The soul nodded, “I have it hidden and protected, deep within me. I do this when I must to protect it from your anger and frustration, to protect it from your pain. When you are ready for it, I will release it again.”
The drops no longer sparkled with rainbows, for the drops were now gone. Once the eyes understood where the faith was hidden, it gave them courage once again. They could face their fears & grief, as long as they had the faith. They could once again believe in magic. The eyes may have sparkled with what looked suspiciously a little like happiness. The eyes whispered back to the soul, “The tears have cleansed me of the anger, and I am ready once more for the faith..”
The soul then released the faith from its hiding place. Armed again so, the eyes once more turned to the world. “There again is beauty,” they marveled. “Yes,” the soul agreed, “but remember, it was there all along. You just couldn’t see it.”
