[|/\|] Prologue [|/\|]

They couldn't destroy it all fast enough. They'd only been in the place fifteen minutes, and already thousands of books had been shredded. All sorts of books were strewn about - their covers defaced and their pages torn. The special computers, with the titles of thousands of books stored within them, had been thrown to the floor and smashed repeatedly, their protective plastic casings cracked and broken.

Gabe Enderson looked over to his associates - the other three criminals in the building - and let out a small sigh of relief. They hadn't noticed the fact that he was drenched in sweat, so much so that his hair was matted and tangled all over. While this wasn't unusual given the circumstances of their being in the library, he never usually had been this tense during a crime before. Tonight was different then the other nights, though his friends didn't know it. The cold metal object hanging around his neck told him so as it glowed faintly beneath his dark hooded sweatshirt.

"Dude, let's finish this soon, before the janitor gets here!" One his fellow vandals yelled, slamming his aluminum baseball bat straight through a computer monitor as he did. Gabe saw a small flicker of pleasure cross the boy's eyes as a small amount of sparks sprayed from the pieces of the computer screen, burning slightly the books that lay on the floor near it's table.

"Eh.. Good idea!" Our friendly felon of a main character said, doing his best to sound as entertained as his friend. They had gone through some computer files and saw that a Janitor would be coming in just a short few minutes, so they had to "finish" the place, as they called it. This usually consisted of spreading gasoline across the bottom level of any given building, and then lightning the place up, while running for their lives. You know, the typical teenager's Friday night fun.

"Here, I brought the shtuff in, dudes!" Another of the criminals yelled from a few bookshelves away, dragging a gigantic gasoline container across the carpet, watching with gleaming eyes as a steady trickle of the stuff escaped from an opening on the back of the thing, sinking into the carpet and making it highly flameable.

"Quick, like that shtuff and let's get outta' here!" Gabe said, finally interested. They were almost done. Maybe, just maybe, he was wrong about the whole thing. Maybe the silvery light that seemed to be growing brighter by the second was wrong. The necklace under his shirt began to feel warm on his skin, which was not a good sign. The thing's twin was growing nearer.

"Yeah, dude, light it!" His partner in crime agreed, yelling over to the "dude" with the matches.

"I'm on it, DUDE!" The other said, whipping out a match and begining to strike it violently against a bookshelf.

The light around Gabe's neck grew brighter.

"C'mon, dude, DO IT!" He yelled, already on his way to the doorway.

"I'M TRYING! Jeeze, gimme' a sec, dude!" The match-weilder yelled back, continuing to beat the bookshelf with the match.

The light began to shine through Gabe's neck, bathing the once-darkened room in an amazing silvery light.

"DUDE!" One of the vandals said.

"DUDE!" The other said.

"No!" Gabe yelled, turning away from the door just before it was blown open...

[|/\|] Chapter One :: Truths Collide [|/\|]

Blade Brightside splurshed and splashed his way along the dark alleyway, in pursuit of his prey. In his left hand, a rather heavy-looking short sword twinkled slightly as it reflected the pale blue moonlight that shined from above. In his right was his Digivice, which was glowing faintly and displaying a small red arrow, pointing towards a small gap in the ragged fence before him.

A yard or so behind Blade, a rabid-looking cat-type digimon sniffed the air causually, purring softly as he did. Though it was hard to see him in the darkness, anyone could have picked out that he was certainly not a normal feline. The digimon had golden-blonde fur, save for a few darker spots and a large orange mohawk-type thing atop his head. Around his neck, the cat digimon had a gigantic golden colar with an emerald green stone set within it, twinkling to match his eyes.

"Leormon, Let's go. We're going to lose them." Blade said, leaping over the tall fence in front of him with a single bound. All this crime-fighting stuff was allowing him to better take advantage of his Digital powers. He was, after all, a Tag-Tamer, which ment that he fought alongside his partner digimon, using weapons and a bit of magic to help his digitally-powered body out.

"Good Idea." Leormon smiled, slyly. Blade knew for a fact his digimon would never, in a thousand years, let one of their prey get away. Leormon was to good for that. He was ten times as agile as any being they had ever met, digital or human.

The feline leaped after his partner, landing noiselessly in the damp ally that had been hidden behind the fence.

Suddenly, beneath Blade's shirt, a golden light erupted, shining across the ally.

"Wha-?" Leormon growled, his muscles tensing. If some digimon was trying to hurt his Tamer with magic - No, it was something else.

"My Crest." Blade said, trying to calm down from the shock. The thing hadn't ever glowed like it was glowing now. Also, it began to eminate a heat that was growing by the second, burning at Blade's skin.

CRASH!

From behind them, they heard the sound of a large object being destroyed.

"What is it?" The Tamer asked, still staring at his Crest. A small shape had appeared on the surface of the crest, sort of like a golden cross with two extra lines on it.

Leormon stopped and twitched his ears slightly, listening intently.

"Someone's in there," The digimon's said quickly, "Several, actually, and they're breaking stuff."

"Why didn't we sense them before?" Blade slipped his digivice back into his pocket and gripped the hilt of his sword with both hands. He began to walk towards the nearest doorway leading into the Library. The glowing of his Crest intensified as he neared.

"Let me go!" Leormon did the feline version of a bark and then leaped forward, slam-tackling the door off of it's hinges, and a gold and silver radiance blocked out all else..

[|/\|] Chapter Two :: Manslaughter [|/\|]

"Blade?" Leormon asked his Tamer, though he couldn't see him through the blinding light. His claws had sprung from their hiding spot in his padded paws upon the explosion of light, and his muscles were tensed and ready for battle.

"Not now, Leormon. Something is happening." Blade said through gritted teeth as he struggled to not be sufficated. His Crest had shot up and through the air upon his entrance, and he was now fighting to gain control of it.

Suddenly, the light vanished, leaving the group of stunned beings facing each other. Gabe's three friends were cowering beneath an overturned table. Gabe himself was crouched on the ground, clutching his necklace to keep it from strangling him. Blade was in the same position outside the large oak doors, his eyes bulging. Leormon was the only one seemingly unafraid. He was glancing from one human to the next. He could sense all their fear and, he thought with a hint of shame, he enjoyed it.

"What in the name of the lord is going on here!?" A large fat man stepped out from behind a bookshelf, a shotgun cradled between his plump arms. He had a glistening star-shaped badge pinned to his chest, and he wore an ex-pression of fear as he stared at Leormon.

Leormon sighed, embarassed. He hadn't even sensed this blubbering fool, and the man was even sweating! Leormon used to be able to smell humans from miles away, now he couldn't even pick up on a gigantic sweating boar! What was wrong with him?

"Le-ormon," Blade choked out from his spot on the floor, "Get..him."

Leormon glanced to his Tamer, then to the man with the gun. This wasn't good. He'd never harmed a human before, but this was an emergancy. "Um.. Okay."

Leormon growled and then pounced, yelling out some indistinguishable attack name was he landed on the fat guard's chest, his claws glowing gold. Claw met clothe and flesh and tore quickly; too quickly. Leormon leaped backwards, startled at his own power. Blood was now pouring out of the man's chest, out of six gaping slashes that Leormon had made.

"LEORMON!" Blade yelled, using all the breath he had faught so much for. He collapsed to the ground, the last of his ragged breaths drawn.

"I.. didn't mean it!" Leormon felt a sickening pang in his stomach, and realized his large mistake. Human flesh was much thinner then the digital kind - this man would die. Then, as his senses were still heightened from his battle rage, he heard a distant sound. Sirens, coming closer by the second.

"Blade! We have to go!" Leormon growled, running to his tamer and slashing at the chain of his necklace with his elongated claws. He'd had enough of this place. The crest began to float forward, towards the other boy with a silver crest, but Blade quickly grabbed it and stuffed it into the pocket of his jeans. Leormon hesitated, but then ran towards the other boy and slashed his necklace, giving him breath.

"C'mon." Now even Blade could here the sirens, and he turned and began to run at full speed. Leormon bounded behind them, and even Gabe followed, uncertain of anything else to do.

"Moving.. too...slow!" Leormon erupted into golden light and Blade's digivice glowed.

"BanchouLeomon!" The large brown-furred lion cried, snatching his Tamer and leaping into the air. He landed on the roof of the nearest building, and continued running.

"WAIT!" From behind them, Gabe screamed. Two Police cars were wailing up the street behind him, both of them shouting things from their car windows.

BanchouLeomon merely stood, staring at the helpless boy. He was about to turn and run, but then he caught sight of the boy's crest. It was silver, but had the same image emblazened into it as Blade's own. That had to mean something.

"Screw it.." BanchouLeomon leaped down, cracking the cement of the alleyway in his hard landing. He threw Gabe over his shoulder, next to Blade, and then drew his sword and stuck it into the ground in front of them. The first of the two cars slammed into it, spinning off and slamming into the second. The digimon sighed; he didn't like having to do such things, and then picked up his sword and shot off into the air.

[|/\|] Chapter Three :: The Hide Out [|/\|]

Blade glanced around the trio, cringing as he saw what was surrounding them. All of it was so... dirty. They were in the worst part of town, travelling from roof to roof. Gabe had told BanchouLeomon to come out here - had said he knew a place they could hide out. A place where they wouldn't be caught..

"Here we are." Gabe finally said, brushing a stray lock of his untamed golden hair from his eye. He had been telling BanchouLeomon directions for a long time now, and Blade was relieved to hear their journey was finally over, even if it wasn't the most upscale part of town.

"Where?" BanchouLeomon looked around the dirty rooftop they were on. There didn't seem to be special doors or entry ways.

"Right there." Gabe said, pointing to a rugged tarp located a few yards ahead of them. The thing was flapping in the breeze gently, spreading dust and grime into the air.

"Uh.. Okay." BanchouLeomon stepped over to the tarp and lifted it, glancing inside. Sure enough, there was a large hole underneath the tarp and through that, a small apartment. The digimon sighed slightly and then slid through the gap, landing with a bit to loud of a thud on the grimy carpet.

"AH!" Blade yelled as he was set down by BanchouLeomon. He had suddenly spotted a figure on the couch, seemingly asleep, twitching and vibrating.

"It's okay, dude, he's probably high." Gabe said, putting a hand on Blade's shoulder. Somehow, the other boy wasn't comforted.

"You guys want some sodas or something? Maybe something, I dunno, stronger?" Gabe said, walking over to a dirt brown fridge.

"No! I don't want anything, and I don't wanna stay here!" Blade said, sheathing his oversized sword and hesitated before sitting down. God knows what was on these chairs, he thought, but sat down anyway.

BanchouLeomon wasn't as picky as his Tamer. He'd already dedigivolved and rolled up on the floor, dozing off instantly. It was amazing, Blade thought, how his digimon could be so powerful and determined one second - and asleep the next.

Gabe seemed to have vanished, so Blade was left alone, save for his sleeping digimon and the twitching teenager on the couch. Not a very comfortable place. Nevertheless, he still managed to fall asleep, eventually. The sleep was very much interupted - he awoke every few minutes startled, not knowing where he was.

-The Next Morning-

Blade was the last to wake up out of the three of them, surprisingly. He opened his eyes to see Leormon plopped down on the same couch the twitching boy had been the night before, his nose crammed into a bag of potato chips. The sound of munching overshadowed even the blaring TV sitting across from the lion-type digimon.

"What's up, dude!?" Blade was shocked to hear Gabe's voice come from such a different body. The other boy had stepped into the room, looking completely different from the way he had the night before. Then, he had had black hair stretching all the way down to the middle of his back. Now, however, he had much shorter, but still shaggy, hair dyed a bright golden blonde. Blade was instantly struck with how much the other boy looked like himself, but said nothing about it.

"What time is it?" The Digidestined said as he irritably scratched the sleep from his eyes. He had never been a morning person.

"About noon, dude." Gabe answered, not even looking at the clock.

"NOON!?" Blade yelled, causing Leormon to rip his head from the bag of chips and turn to the group.

"My parents are going to know I've been gone!" Blade said, quickly preparing himself to go home. "I've gotta get home!"

"Blade," Leormon stated simply, "We can't go back there. I don't think you understand what happened last night. I killed a man, slashed him right open with my own claws. You guys were there, and so was Gabe's friends. That means they have witnesses. You two are basically wanted men now. You can't go home."

"But," Blade let the words sink in before continuing, "Where are we supposed to live?"

"Here, dude!" Gabe said, tossing a soda to Blade. Blade watched as the can sailed right passed him and slammed to the carpeted floor.

"We can't stay here, with you! I don't even know you! It's your fault all this is happening! If it wasn't for you, my crest wouldn't have - " Blade cut himself off, suddenly realizing something. Gabe wasn't shocked at all to have been carried home by a giant lion. He wasn't shocked to have the lion turn into a smaller one before his eyes. He also had had a crest the night before.

As if reading his mind, Gabe said, "Yeah, dude, I know. You're a Digidestined. I was - or am - also. For some reason, I don't have a digimon, but I've got a crest and a digivice. Our crests match, dude."

"What?" Blade sat back down and pulled out his golden crest. It had stopped glowing since the night before, but still felt odd - almost warm - to the touch.

"We checked your crest while you slept, man. They're the same - except mine's silver." Gabe said, sitting down next to Leormon on the couch.

"This is insane." Blade felt his head getting light. He'd never seen another crest before, or another human that knew about digimon. Some part of him had gone so far as to think he was imagining it all. But no, this proved it, he was not alone in this all.

"No, dude, this is and adventure. Think about it, man. We've got it good. We've got a hideout!" Gabe said that last part like it ment everything to Blade.

[|/\|] Chapter Four :: Meant To Be [|/\|]

"CATCH HIM, DUDE!" Gabe's yell echoed across the dimly-lit street.

Blade sighed as he complied with his teammates command. He lifted his oversized sword and pointed it straight forward. Instantly, the Goblimon was impaled on the sharp point of the saber. The green digimon growled in surprise and then burst into thousands of microbits of data, all of which fluttered straight into Blade's chest.

"YES!" Gabe yelped, punching his fist into the air and then walking over to a half-destroyed dumpster and removing his large battle axe from the side. Since they had met two weeks earlier, Blade had trained Gabe to use various weapons, all of which they had "borrowed" from the local ancients weaponry store.

"Yeah, Yeah.. Whatever." Leormon growled in annoyance. He was usually the one to make the kill, but ever since Blade had began training Gabe, the two humans had done most of the battling.

"Let's go home, before the cops get here." Blade glanced around, only now noticing that there was a large crowd gathered around the trio, all staring open-mouthed at them.

"We could take the cops down, dude!" Gabe said, a large grin spreading across his face. He'd gained an awful lot of confidence in his own skills recently, and this battle hadn't helped his big-headed ness.

"No. We leave, now." Blade turned to go, slipping his sword into a sheath that was on his trench-coat covered back. As he walked he began flicking the blonde hair that was resting over his eyes away. It was the first time he noticed that his hair had grown in legnth since first meeting Gabe. They'd been to busy to notice such small things. Gabe's own hair was down to the middle of his back, and he seemed quite comfortable with it. His had been long when they'd met, probably due to the fact that he didn't have a parent to nag at him about it.

"C'mon, man! We're the Chosen! The only two Digidestined! We're ment to be!" Another thing Gabe had gotten used to saying. He'd gotten it into his head that they were somehow destined for greater things, therefore they couldn't be stopped by anyone.

"I'm not so sure about that. C'mon, Leormon, let Mr. Meant-To-Be handle the police officers." Blade smiled as the other boy ran after him, beating even the swift Leormon to Blade's side.

- Later -

When they arrived at their makeshift home, Gabe and Leormon quickly resumed their usual positions on the couch, potato chips and sodas in hand -er- paw. Blade, two, had his own special space.

"To the Observatory, Captain Hero!" Gabe joked, stuffing a fistful of chips into his mouth. Leormon snorted his agreement, lightly spraying Coke across the TV screen.

Blade smiled sarcastically at the moronic pair and then walked up the rotting staircase that led to the roof of their moldy, disgusting house. After slippin the burdensome sword off his back, he flopped down into a bug-infested armchair he'd dragged up to his special place and then stared off into space.

[|/\|] Chapter Five :: Enter Night [|/\|]

Dante stared off into the blackness of space for a mere second, then turned back to the task at hand. He'd have to act quickly if he wanted to finish his task tonight. There was much to be done.

A large gust of wind blew passed, bringing with it a few flakes of powdery snow. It just made the whole thing creepier. Secretly, Dante was terrified that one of the frequent gusts of wind would blow him off of the edge of the tower - and down the one hundred and fifty stories to his death. Also, the ancient stone tower could crumble beneath his feet, or the ceiling could cave in and he could tumble to the floor below. That fall alone would probably cripple him, or worse. But it was worth it.

"Sacred Spirit of Pain, AWAKEN!" Dante cried into the night, holding his head high. Nothing happened.

Suddenly, the sixteen-year-old remembered something he had heard long ago. "You must feel the Pain in order to awaken it."

The Dark Digidestined cringed. This was NOT going to be easy. He slipped his hands into his dark-colored robes and withdrew two heavily-decorated knives. Each of the curved blades was sheathed, but still, even looking at them, the boy good feel the pain they were about to put him in.

"Pain, Arise!" Dante roared into the night and then, in one smooth motion, flicked the daggers with such a force as to send their sheaths flying, and then brought them across his wrists. The dagger in his right hand sank into the flesh of his left wrist as his left-handed dagger sliced through his right wrist. Blood instantly began to bubble up around the silvery blades, and the boy slipped slowly to the stone floor, tears of pain welling up within his eyes. He could only hope this pain was enough.

Somewhere in the Digital World, an ever-building pressure finally exploded.

Blood was beginning to collect in large pools around Dante's body. It was then that he realized the wounds shouldn't have been giving off as much blood as they were. From his robe, a ruby-colored light exploded. The Crest of Pain had awakened.

-

Thousands of miles away, located in the depths of a crystal-clear lake, a girl's cry erupted. The clear blue water was suddenly filled with a deep purple light. All around the lake, the dense forest began to die. Each tree leaf slowly began to darken and fall to the earth, all of them succumbing to Death.

The girl arose from her resting place in the bottom of the water, floating silently through the air. The Amethyst Crest of Death glowed darkly from it's place on her chest. All around the girl, life began to drain away.

-

Sand blew across the path of young Tommy StarBright, whipping around the boy and lashing at his cloths and skin. He did not cry; did not give any notice to the terrible pain erupting across his body. He only knew one thing. He had to head East.

A small digimon ran forward, through the sand storm, and threw himself at the feet of the boy.

"PLEASE, OH PLEASE! Help Me!" The digimon, a Palmon, Tommy guessed, begged, tears welling up in her eyes. From the looks of it, the digimon hadn't had water running through her veins for weeks. Her usually green skin was a dried-out brown color, and the flower that was usually blooming atop her head had lost most of it's pedals. She was in sad shape.

"Why do you think I could help you?" Tom said, smirking. He knew the answer, but enjoyed hearing it from digimon before they drew their final breath. Now that his Crest was awakened, killing this creature would be much easier.

"Because I see your crest, I know you're a Digidestined! The Digidestined are powerful, powerful sources of compassion and stregnth!" Palmon said, still bowing to the boy.

"No, they aren't. The Digidestined are weak, and they cannot save you. How dare you think this Crest is of light or compassion or hope! You fool!" Tommy smiled, his young innocence finally vanishing. The Crest of Deception glowed a bright emerald.

"NO!" Palmon screamed, turning to run. She was far too late. The light engulfed her, and she exploded into data bits.

[|/\|] Chapter Six :: Discovering Deception [|/\|]

Blade stared off into space a second, taking the whole scene in. His hair itched at his eyes, but he didn't bat it away like he usually would, he just stared straight ahead.

"Hi-Yah!" Gabe swung the axe with increadible strength at the cloaked figure in front of him, barely missing the lightning-fast creature and smashing a large piece of concrete from the wall. He'd been at this for awhile now, swinging and missing.

"Leo Claw!" Leormon growled as his energized claw slashed at the dark figure, missing him by only a centimeter. His golden fur was covered in sweat - something Blade had never seen before - and his eyes showed a tiredness that seemed to fill even his soul. This thing was slowly but surely bringing them down, without even performing a single attack. Even being around him seemed to be training the trio.

"I don't understand." Blade continued watching the pair as they took turns lashing out at the cloaked figure, and missing every time. But wait, it seemed that they were hitting him, just barely, but they didn't seem to be effecting him at all. Yes, he thought, if he concentrated hard enough, he could see their attacks barely cut into the creature's dark robes, just on the edges. But there seemed to be no effect.

"Guys." Blade rose, just as the figure finally seemed to make it's move. The thing spung around and then exploded into a thick black smoke. The smoke floated slowly around the small space they were in - the dimly-lit parking garage they'd chased him into no less then an hour ago - and then vanished all together.

"What was that?" Leormon sighed with exhaustion and then flopped down to the concrete.

"I dunno, dude, but I almost got him!" Gabe, too, sighed and then sat down next to the lion-type digimon, resting his hefty battle axe across his legs.

"No, you didn't. He wasn't real." Blade said calmly, not putting his own weapon away just yet.

"What do you mean by that!?" Gabe turned angrily on his friend, thinking he'd just been insulted.. or something. Just then, a large wind blew through the parking garage, sending bits of dust flying across the trio's clothes and fur.

"I think we're about to find out." Leormon's ears had perked up only a second before, and he was now picking himself off the ground an readying his tired body for battle.

"What?" Gabe turned around to face the digimon, now totally confused. The wind had grown, whipping his long golden hair across his face and upper body. He had no idea what was about to hit him..

"GABE!" Blade's yell was far to late. The emerald energy blast hit Gabe squarely in the back of the head, and rocked his body into shuddering convulsions. He fell to the cement, his body shaking and squirming. Lime green electricity played across his skin, each tiny strike of it sending him into another flurry of shakes. Slowly, his skin began to pale, and Leormon's high-powered senses could feel something terrible. Something very terrible.

"Blade, no!" The digimon, knowing it was to late for Gabe, wanted to at least save his partner. He leaped from his place on the ground and knocked Blade to the concrete, stopping him from rushing to the other boy's side. He could feel the sadness eminating from his Tamer's body as the boy realized the truth. Something in Leormon's eyes had given it away.

"Leormon, we have to help him or something. We can bring him back!" The Digidestined fought against Leormon, but the lion-type digimon wouldn't budge. If whatever had taken Gabe out was still lurking the place, he'd have to get Blade out fast.

"We have to leave," Leormon spoke calmly, but what he was saying only made Blade more upset, "We have to. I'm going to digivolve, and you're going to get on my back, and we're going to high-tail it out of here. We'll come back for him later, I swear. Okay?"

Blade only could nod. Last time he'd seen another human die, it had been the security guard at New York City's Downtown Library. The man had been a noone to Blade; he'd never gotten know him. But this, this was far different. Gabe had given him a home. He'd given him clothes and, while they'd been ratty and torn up, Blade had appreciated them all the same. He'd come to think of the other boy as his brother of sorts. They were almost twins, it seemed. Both in body and soul.

"Leormon.. Digivolve TO.." Blade's digivice erupted with golden light, and his digimon exploded into nothingness for an instant.

"..Raiamon!" The data rearanged itself to form a gigantic lion-type digimon. The digimon stood for a second, staring silently at Gabe's lifeless body, and then kneeled down before his tamer.

"Goodbye, my brother." Blade said softly, startling Raiamon. Sure, he'd noticed too that the two of them had looked alike in a way, in the way that they were exactly the same size and had roughly the same personalities. He'd never spoken such thoughts, though, and to hear them said aloud made them seem even more realistic. Blade turned to get on his digimon, but paused for a second.

"We'll be back for him, I swear it." Raiamon said, nuzzling his Tamer's cheek softly with his gigantic nose. The boy nodded slowly and then hopped on his digimon's back. The lion then turned and, without another glance back, ran from the place as fast as possible.

-

As soon as the pair had left, the bright green energy flowing across Gabe's body vanished, and a small sigh of exhaustion could be heard.

"That was close." A small boy of only about ten stepped out of the shadows, surrounded by a faint green light that matched the energy that had killed Gabe. He looked dead tired, and was leaning heavily on the concrete wall to his right.

"Yes, it was." A calm female voice spoke from behind the boy, and seventeen-year-old Charley Haynes stepped out of the shadows. Instantly, the the cement around the pair began to crack as the raw power of Death eminated from her crest. She looked quite pleased with what was happening - the boy did not.

"I wish you knew how to control it better." The boy said, kneeling over and checking Gabe's pulse. Perfect, he thought, the energy blast hadn't killed him. The plan had gone over well, but it had it's faults. They were planning on stunning the other Digidestined and then, using his power of Deception, the sinister little boy would make it seem Blade was dead, and that the energy surrounding his body would kill anyone that touched him. After the digimon and the other boy had left, Charley and himself would take the unconcious boy. Of course, he'd gotten the wrong boy, confused by the fact that Gabe, too, had a crest.

"Yes, if only I had the brains you had. The aim, too." Charley replied, very sarcastically. She thought her counterpart had merely missed Blade, not gotten confused. She didn't think he was that stupid. "Now let's go, Alex, before the floor caves in."

"Good Idea." Tommy replied, using his power of Deception once more. He let lose a bit of lime green energy, and a small matress hovered in front of him. With much effort, because Charley was only watching him, he got Gabe's body onto the thing and pushed it into the shadow they had come from. The girl followed through the shadow, which had been made into a makeshift portal by their master, and they were both instantly transported to a different plain of existence..

[|/\|] Chapter Seven :: Crest Connections [|/\|]

The floor creaked, and a small puff of dust fell from the ceiling as Blade BrightSide paced around the dirty room. The place was damp - a cracked window had let a spray of morning mist into the basement room. Even so, it was the only place the Digidestined would create plans in - it's coolness provided a great calming sensation - and calmness was something he'd been lacking the passed few days. The two of them had tried, without success, to find a way into the Digital World. After they'd found that Gabe's body had been stolen they'd known something was up. Now he was here, planning their next move.

"Blade! Blade! Can we go out and get some air!?" Leormon's nose wrinkled in disgust as he flopped down the broken stairs and into the room. The place smelled moldly, and his highly-sensitive nose didn't like it.

"How about some digital air, Leormon?" Blade said, a smiling growing across his face. The lion digimon sighed with relief. Finally, his Tamer had gotten a good idea! As long as Blade kept hope, Leormon knew, they'd find a way out of their problem.

"I know this sounds stupid, but I've been doing a lot of thinking. If it works we'll both feel VERY stupid." Blade said, picking his D-Arc digivice up from the moldy table to his left. He pointed it in front of his body and then closed his eyes, letting instinct take over.

A faint golden light rippled the air a foot from the Digivices screen. Leormon gasped, Blade slipped deeper into his mind.

"DigiPort, OPEN!" The Digidestined yelled, and then energy exploded, pulsing golden light around the room. There, in the middle of the golden radiance, was a rip in the dimension.

"Never a dull moment.." Leormon murmered. His eyes suddenly widened as his tamer jumped right into the warp. Here we go again..

-

"I still don't get it." Tommy growled through gritted teeth. He was getting irritable.

"Don't worry, you don't need to understand." Dante snapped back, sick of his follower's stupidity. "Basically, the dark power of our Crests should be more then enough to corrupt the DigiCore. It's getting that energy into it that's the problem. We'll use his Crest's energy of light to make it look like we're purifying the thing. Then - BOOM! No more DigiWorld."

"Yes, Death will prevail over all." Charley said, boredly. She was messing around with the energy from her Crest again, letting it's dark purple energy crackle from her finger types, incinerating a small digital plant. The only thing she enjoyed about all this was the Death it would cause. The Death would allow her unlimited power over anything.

".. Do not forget the Pain." Dante corrected his other followed. The pain all of the Digimon would feel before they died - it would be enough to boost his Crest to a supreme power level. He'd have more then enough power to move on to other worlds, once this one was gone.

"Can we get on with it?" Tommy's voice was strained with excitement. He'd been training since they had kidnapped the boy for this moment. He concentrated on his Crest. Once he felt that neverending energy within him - the uncontroled Deception - he let it flow through him. Pale green light slid from his hands, as he raised them into the air.

"Might as well." Charley turned her attention to the task at hand and raised her own arms into the air, feeling rather stupid. She let the Death flow from her. She could feel the stone tower around them creak as she did - it wouldn't last long with the raw power of her Crest flowing freely within it. She let the Death and the Deception flow together, weaving to make one solid band of light.

"Yes." Dante smiled. His eyes glowed blood red, and his Crest exploded with light. His body warped with Pain - one small side-effect to his power - and he fell to the ground. Still, the Pain continued to flow, red as fresh blood, and combined with the other powers. They bonded, the powers of darkness growing.

"One final thing." Dante slowly made his way over to Gabe's unconcious body, reaching out a hand to touch the silvery crest of Truth...

Before he could even lay hands on the shining crest, a great rip tore across the sky, sending a gigantic blast of wind across the top of the tower. The three Dark Digidestined were swept all around. Dante even came dangerously close to flying off the edge of the tower, but was quickly drawn back forward by his crest. The glowing crimson Crest of Pain was deeply connected with the other two Digidestinds' crests, and would not stay away from them for long.

"The core..?" Tommy said, nursing a bruised arm. His Crest, also, was dragging him towards his allies. He was staring at the riff in the sky above them, as if expecting something to suddenly happen.

"No, it can't be. The core is in the center of the world." Dante had finally caught his breathe and he, to, was staring up at the riff.

"So what is it, then?" Charley was the only one not staring at the thing they had just created. She seemed quite bored with the whole thing, and was instead looking around at the tower, examining the many deep crevices that were appearing across the stone surface.

"I don't know. I don't even think the boy's Crest gave us energy. I didn't even get to touch it." Dante had taken a quick glance at Charley, and was now following her gaze across the towertop. His eyes widened at the sight.

"You can't even control your power!?" The Digidestined of Pain held out his left hand and in a blast of blood-red light, lifted Charley from her feet and enveloped her in crimson pain. The energy from his crest was working overtime now, surrounding the girl and sending waves of pain through her body while still holding the riff in the sky open.

"Stop it!" Tommy turned towards his leader, ready to use the power of his own Crest if need be. He didn't like it when they were divided..

"No, she needs to pay for this - she's ruined this beautiful creation the Dark Masters created so long ago!" Dante said through gritted teeth. His anger pulsed through his body as his own crimson energy pulsed over Charley's. He was begining to feel the weight of all the energy he was using. Slowly, he began to crumple down to the floor..

"Don't you understand, if she gets knocked out by the pain, the hole to the DigiCore will close!" The Digidestind of Deception tried to reason with Dante, taking a step closer to the weakening teenager. As Dante thought about Tommy's words more, the energy around Charley began to fade, and eventually vanished altogether.

"Ouch." Charley said as she hit the stone. She didn't seemed phased at all by the little onslaught, though Tommy could feel her pain through their Crest connection.

"Now," Dante turned his eyes to the sky once more, "Let's do this."

"Do what?" A huge voice boomed, and the three of them each took a step back at what they saw..

-

Blade stepped out of the DigiPort, Leormon at his heels.

"Wow! It's just like I remember it.." Leormon said, pouncing into a small sand dune that lay before the pair and then rolling in the stuff, sending a cloud of sand into the air. Then, suddenly, he stopped.

"No, it isn't." Leormon said, his eyes growing dark. His senses hadn't been attuned at first, but now.. Now he knew something was very wrong with this world. Something Dark had been unleashed.. again.

"What is it?" Blade said, looking around at the hundreds of thousands of sand dunes and hills that surrounded them. The only thing abnormal about the place was the glowing markings that seemed to hover throughout the dim gray sky. This place doesn't seem all that special...

"I don't know," Leormon lied, "But let's go and find Gabe." Or what's left of him...

"Sure, but which way do we go?" Blade asked, picking up a handful of sand and letting it drop from his hands. Yep, it was normal all right, nothing special here.

"I thought your crest would tell you.." Leormon said, still uncertain about the Digital World he had returned to. Almost on cue, a bright gold light erupted from beneath Blade's shirt.

"Great. So it's glowing, that really helps." Blade sighed, kicking at the nearest sand dune and sending a plume of the dusty stuff into the air.

"At least we know we're in the right world.."

-

"A-Azulongmon?" Dante's voice was broken, shattered with emotion. Shattered with fear.

"Yes, it's me!" The gigantic God of a digimon floated a little closer to the tower top, and instantly his presence had an effect. The huge crevices that had been made by Charley's power of Death began to fill back in, their pieces flying back together in the most beautiful form of power; entropy.

"Who's he?" Charley said, unhappy that this creature had powers beyond her own.

"A DigiGod. We've met before." Dante said, slipping his hands into his dark robes, readying his daggers. Battling a God was useless, he knew, but he didn't want to be totally helpless.

"Yes, we have met. Back when he and his old gang chained me down in the fabulous dimension you guys just freed me from." Azulongmon sounded cheerful, despite the place he had just came from. The chains that covered his body were steadily dissolving, and with them dissolved the last of Dante's composure. He fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face. He let out a small wimper of hopelessness.

"What's wrong?" Tommy took a step towards his leader, confused on what was going on.

"Everything, you foolish little brat! He's going to kill us all, or worse, lock us up in that dimension I damned him to before! It's all over!" Dante continued sobbing, despite the odd looks he was getting from his fellow Dark Digidestined.

"Me, kill you? No No," Azulongmon's laughter boomed loud and strong, "I am a defender of Destiny, and it is evident it isn't your time to die. In fact, I'm powerless to effect you three, or anything else that is destined. Others are meant to break Destiny, I'm just here for the ride."

Dante straightened up instantly. "You foolish beast, you thought I feared you? I was merely trying to lure you into a false sense of security, so I could defeat you."

Tommy couldn't resist a laugh, Charley just sighed.

"Well, Destiny is calling me elsewhere, but I thought I'd let you know before I go, there is a Digidestined near here." Azulongmon said, as if to tease the group. He then set off, heading into the clouds to a place far, far away.

"Odd.." Tommy said, letting the power of his Crest flicker out of existence, and the riff above them vanished.

"Very.." Charley said, smiling as the tower began to crack once again. She liked seeing her power of Death in action. She only wished it would effect certain other things around her, like other Dark Digidestined..

[|/\|] Chapter Eight :: April's Fool [|/\|]

Sand clouded his vision as it whipped around them, tearing at his skin and bringing him to his kness at times. The heat was near unbearable, sometimes growing to a tempreture twice as hot as he'd ever been in before. Sweat drenched his body. His hope dwindled, it's already frail string growing thinner and thinner by the second. Yet still, Blade BrightSide continued on. By his side, his faithful digimon followed, looking to his Tamer much stronger then he really was.

"We're almost to the end of this area, Blade. We'll be home free, soon." Leormon reassured his Tamer, letting the Digidestined flop over to rest for a few precious seconds. They'd brought no water with them, or anything else for that matter. He could hear his best friend's heartbeat as it slowed, closing in on death. Still, he pushed him on. He knew that, once they reached the end of this sand-filled area, they'd be someplace beautiful. He knew the magic of the Digital World would make his Tamer right again, once they reached the end of this cursed sector.

"I..hope." Blade's last words were forced out - they were dry and cracked, proving to Leormon that his Tamer was really at the end of the line. Blade slowly stood up and then continued to stumble on, through the sand, even as the stuff filled his lungs, its grainy texture making him choke with every breath, every movement. It was not his day.

They continued on for several minutes - for what seemed to them like hours - and still reached no ending to their suffering. Leormon, now, had lost all ability to speak. He no longer could give his friend hope - and a person without hope in a position like Blade's loses the will to live very easily. The Digidestined stopped and merely stood for a second, considering his choices. He could die walking, chasing something he'd never find, or he could lay down and wait for the sand to cover him - a very peaceful death in the eyes of someone as tortured as he. He dropped to his kness and then fell face first into the sand.

Leormon opened his mouth to say something - anything - but all that came out was a dry crack and a small plume of dust. He, too, collapsed to the sand. Soon, the golden sand would cover them and together they'd fade away...

Then, suddenly, Leormon felt rejuvenated and powerful. The heat was gone, replaced by a gentle breeze. The sands around them collapsed, and the sweat smell of perfume filled his lungs, clearing out all of the dusty sand. Raw energy filled his veins, and he felt suddenly compelled to do something powerful. Anything powerful. So he did.

"Leormon, digivolve to..."

Blade, who had suddenly stood back up, filled with a burst of energy, was shocked to find that his Golden D-Arc was glowing brightly, signifying a digivolution.

"Raiamon!"

The lion digimon gave a gigantic, masculine roar and then leaped high into the air, slamming back into a sand dune with such force as to send a small wave of dust everywhere. He felt wonderful - better then ever before. He didn't even stop to think why he felt so good, he just enjoyed the moment, prancing around the sands and roaring.

"Hello."

A single, plain word seemed to echo all around them. Blade found it hard to believe that a word so simple could be spoken so beautifully. That one voice could eminate that much purity, power, love and lust. A voice that seemed to ensare his very being within it, just with one word.

"Woah.." Raiamon felt the power of the word to, but he was not so easily effected as his Tamer. He could feel raw energy behind the word, yes. But he was wise enough to wonder about it, instead of Blade's instant embrace of it.

"Aren't you going to reply?" The voice spoke again, but this time the energy was far to much for Blade to take. A full sentence of that magic coursed through him, and his body almost spasmed with the feelings it gave him. He fell to his knees, unable to even respond. Raiamon growled uneasily, no knowing something was wrong.

Just then, a figure stepped out of seemingly nowhere. A tall, slender figure, almost cat-like in appearance and movement. Raiamon could tell it was a digimon, and took a step closer to Blade as the creature descended from the large dune it had appeared atop. As it grew closer, Raiamon wrinkled his nose. It was ugly, even in digimon terms. It had long, bulging arms and wide legs. The digimon was distinctly female, with long redish hair and a small purple veil drawn across smiling lips.

"Hey." The latest word had no power over Blade whatsoever, and his mind began to clear ever so slightly. He stood up, very embarassed with himself. The digimon took a step closer and outstretched her hand. Raiamon stepped in between the hand and his Tamer. Something was not right here, and he knew it.

"It's okay, silly!" The digimon said, and then vanished, materializing again next to Blade, "I'm human, okay? Just Spirit Evolved."

Spirit Evolved. Raiamon had heard of that somewhere, but wasn't sure where. But if she was human, she couldn't be that bad, right? His muscles untensed, and he took a step away from her, feeling bad that he had doubted her the first place.

Blade, meanwhile, was having a hard time controling himself. His eyes were glued on the digimon, or whatever she was, and he could not get them off of her. The energy seemed to be pulsing outward was to much for him. His knees felt weak again. Suddenly, it got a thousand times worse.

The Spirit digimon de-digivolved, returning to her human state. To Blade, her human form was millions of times more beautiful then anything else in creation. He opened opened his mouth to speak, but could not. The girl silenced him without speaking. Silenced him with her pulsating blue eyes and long auburn hair, her lightly tanned skin. Her raw beauty.

"Blade?" Raiamon had now grown suspicious once again. He'd only now noticed the faint pink aura around the girl - it was glowing the same colors as the Crest around her neck. The third Digidestined he'd ever met with a Crest, and already he didn't trust her. That Crest was doing something to Blade. Raiamon gave a small snarl, readying himself for an attack on the girl, when she suddenly turned to him.

"Down, boy." Was all that was said, but even it was far more then enough. Raiamon exploded into light and was replaced by a small bouncing ball of fur - he'd dedigivolved to his In-Training form, Furimon. The digimon bobbled around, cooing, taking no notice to his ensared Tamer..

-

"He said something about another Digidestined, here." Dante said, his forehead wrinkling as he emersed himself in thought. The crest around his neck was dull - it's power had been drained for the time being. If he was going to battle he'd have to do it with his twin daggers - which was not comforting. But, after all, good Digidestined couldn't use their Crests to do things such as attacks.

"Yup." Tommy put a hand over his eyes to block out the blinding sun and looked out at the rolling hills of sand surrounding them. He disliked being surrounded by the sand, and hated how it reflected the light so perfectly into his eyes. But, since their moving into the castle, Charley's Crest had more then taken care of every bit of life in the surrounding area - turning forest to barren wasteland in just a few days. It amazed him, how much energy the Crest of Death held. Around Charley's neck, it still glowed powerfully, even after all it had done in the last few hours. His own Crest was still pulsing a faint lime green light, signifying that it still had some energy left within it, but no where near as much as the female Dark Digidestined's own.

"Over there." Charley didn't even bother pointing out the approaching Digidestined and his digimon, for she knew the other two wouldn't able to see the boy anyway - her own power over Death gave her a heat-sensing type vision of what lived and what didn't - and there was surely a living boy and digimon approaching the Dark Tower at a fast pace.

"Let's ready ourselves, then." Dante slipped into a small hole in the stone floor, descending a large latter into the darkness below, not even pausing to wait for the other two. They quickly followed, however, and soon the trio were standing before a large glass case, staring at its contents. Inside the case were many small stone statues, all of them in the likeness of a certain Dark digimon from the Digital World's past.

"This one is mine," Tommy said, reaching his hand through the already-destroyed glass [broken due to the Crest of Death's power] and grabbing the statue that looked like a Puppetmon. He pulled the thing out, and then grabbed a compact digivice from a different shelf, and stuffed the two items in his pocket before climbing the latter back to the roof.

Dante took a bit longer to decide, eventually settling on the largest statue, that of MachineDramon, and grabbing another of the digivices before following his fellow Digidestined back to the towers roof.

Charley, though, took the longest to decide. She studied each of the statues for so long that they began to crack under the invisible weight of her Crest's power. After a good three minutes, she snatched the statue of a large mammoth and then shot up the latter, back to the roof.

-

Meanwhile, just mere yards from where they all stood atop the tower, preparing for battle, a lone digidestined trudged through the sand, his faithful digimon at his side. Sixteen-year-old Matt Taku was absent-mindedly fiddling with his twin battlestaffs, clicking the things together to form one staff and then unclicking them again.

"Matt." The alarm in Labramon's voice startled the Digidestined slightly. He turned to face the canine-type digimon and studied him slowly.

"What is it?" Matt replied, whipping out his handy-dandy D-Arc digivice. He knew when trouble was brewing.

"Look ahead there, on top of that tower." Labramon's face tensed as he stared intently at the figures moving about on the tower. Matt turned his gaze upward and his eyes widened. Three humans stood atop the tower. He couldn't really tell, but he had a feeling that the trio were staring at him.

"They aren't very nice smelling." Labramon stopped moving, as did Matt. The digimon's sense of smell was increadible, and they both knew it. He could smell evil from a mile away, or so they had once thought.

-

The three Dark Digidestined watched as Matt and his digimon stopped walking and began staring at them.

"Let's make the first move..." Dante said with a small smile, and threw his own stone statue off of the edge of the tower. Almost like a grenade, the thing exploded in midair and sent blinding silvery energy shooting through the air, making the three of them shield their eyes. After the light, a huge amount of thick black smoke filled the area, and a sound like a thousand car engines starting up roared.

"MachineDramon," Dante said, raising his crimson Digivice into the air, "ARISE!"

The smoke instantly vanished, and a monsterous machine stood where it had once been. The huge dragon machine stood for a second, totally motionless, and then, with the sound of squeeking metal and rusted bolts snapping, moved for the first time in thousands of years.

The once-gleaming armor of MachineDramon was now pocketed with rust spots and deep dents. The red-colored steel that had once added even more sinister-ness to the machine was now faded to a dull brown color. Several of the digimon's power-energizing wires were disconected, sending a steady stream of sparks across his browned metal armor. Yes, this digimon had seen better days. Charley's Crest wasn't helping the situation, either.

"DRAGON FLAME!" MachineDramon didn't even stop to aim - he let forth a blast of white fire from his mouth in a random direction.

-

"Matt!" Labramon tackled his Tamer to the dirt as a blast of white-hot flame sailed passed them, blackening the sand and even darkening some of the digimon's own fur with it's intense fiery power.

Jeeeze, thanks alot! I was afraid I was screwing Charley's character up, so I was way afraid of putting yours in. Once I did, I thought I was screwing them both up. Plus, I've been going over the last few chapters and changing them, because my creativity seems to disappear little-by-little every day, and the old versions of the chapters were getting pretty crappy.
