Say No To Zimbabwe cricket tour
Our country, New Zealand is sending our cricket team to Zimbabwe in
September for a 5 week tour. I have created an on-line petition
against this. The problem with all of this is most of the players do
not want to go, but the ICC (international cricket board) will fine
them $2 million for not going! The government does not want to stop
them from going either. Many people say you should not mix politics
and sports, but Robert Mugabe is the head of the Zimbabwe Cricket
Board! So most of the money generated from this tour will go to him
and his government.
Robert Mugabe, re-elected in March in a poll condemned
internationally as corrupt, has cast his country into poverty and
despair.
Hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans face death through starvation,
poverty and Aids, and the death of democracy by the regime's killing
and torturing of opponents.
