Serbian army won''t operate in Kosovo again -- Defense Minister

SOFIA, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Shtanovatzj on Saturday said that the Serbian army would not intervene in the Kosovo issue, where peaceful and diplomatic means were the only methods to solve the issue.

In a statement to KUNA, the Serbian official noted that the final status of the Kosovo region was on its way to materialize through negotiations by the tripartite committee of the EU, US and Russia.
His remarks came on the sidelines of a seminar organized by the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria in the city of Dragomanj on borders with Serbia.

He said that the army was ready to execute all missions that complement the government's policy, where he brushed away any possibility of war to be launched against NATO forces in the region.
Accepting Serbia as a NATO member was a step on the right direction, Shtanovatzj said, adding that such move would pave the way for a full EU membership for the Balkan country.

According to Shtanovatzj, Serbia was again in the spotlight due to its geographical location centering Europe and its relation with Moscow, which might politically jeopardize Serbia's relations with both powers should any of which consider disrupting their relations.
