Sunday Slaughter
The spirits were restless the night before battle. They knew something wasn't right. The regular leader of our campaign was away, and his Second was unable to take command. Things looked dark until a shaman took up the banner and called the troops to fight. The spirits had warned him this would not be a normal day. Four foes he would face before he could rest: The leader of the Combine rebellion, Lcea Katta; a wealthy, undead, man, Nathyn Illuminious; the prophecied coming of Doom, Doomshade; and the guardian of the entrance to the lost Akhevan City of Vex Thal, Rumblecrush.
The shaman gathered his friends around him and called the move to Katta Castellum. Their initial attempt to sneak into the castle was foiled by the Halfling druid Tobala Honeyjar. The force regrouped and made another attempt, eventually tricking Lcea into running into a bedroom where the force waited in ambush. Lcea fled around the room trying to escape, but to no avail. From her corpse, Craelok took her Girdle of Magnificence and Cabula found a Glowing Orb of Luclinite.
They crept out as silently as they had came, moving to Nathyn Illuminious's mansion which they mercilessly stormed, slaying all who stood in their way. Knowing he was trapped, Nathyn stood stone still while the raiders spoke of how they would end his life. An orchestrated feint allowed the dread lord Nral to get his attention and hold it for the duration of the fight. The fight slowly circled the room, with the raiders constantly pushing Nathyn against Nral's blade. Immelyna took his Robe of Dark Beguilement from his corpse and the raiders moved on.
After a long journey to the Umbral Plains, the raiders joked and laughed as the shamans and clerics prayed to the spirits and the divine to watch over them and ensure their success. The Dark Masters were not pleased by this display and vowed to destroy us and bring Doom to the world. Though we fought valiantly and killed all four Dark Masters, we were too late. Doomshade, the walking embodiment of evil, had been reborn. A helpful spirit whispered "fight fire with fire" into Tigran's ear and he knew that the dread lord Nral must once again tank for the raid. One of Doomshade's followers, a Dark Assassin, followed him to the heroes, but they were not fooled and slew him easily while focusing their main attention on Doomshade. From the corpse, Keari, the young cleric, took a Pebble Crusher. Boldak took the coveted Earring of Endless Speed, Lames took the Longsword of Freedom, and Minising took the Bracelet of Might.
As Doomshade fell, the heroes heard a loud rumble to the east. Rumblecrush, the guardian of Vex Thal, had sensed their presence and was bound by the magics that summoned him to destroy anything and anyone that threatened to breach the Akhevan City. After many failed attempts (and cashed-in favors from the Divine) he was tricked into charging the camp and fighting the heroes on their own turf. The shaman and enchanter acted quickly to drain his strength and slow his attacks while the wizards bided their time until they could call forth powerful magics to tear his rocky body to pieces. From the corpse, Xumten took a set of Wicked Mail. Minising found a Belt of Scintillation, and Faleria uncovered a Grand Shield of Faith.
I truly enjoyed leading this raid. After a few kinks and a little miscommunication, everything went great. Loot was awarded quickly, and despite people falling under the world in Umbral, I think everyone had a good time. I certainly did, and I'm looking forward to leading more raids in the future.
